Book Machine Learning and Data Science in the Oil and Gas Industry

Download or read book Machine Learning and Data Science in the Oil and Gas Industry written by Patrick Bangert and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Machine Learning and Data Science in the Oil and Gas Industry explains how machine learning can be specifically tailored to oil and gas use cases. Petroleum engineers will learn when to use machine learning, how it is already used in oil and gas operations, and how to manage the data stream moving forward. Practical in its approach, the book explains all aspects of a data science or machine learning project, including the managerial parts of it that are so often the cause for failure. Several real-life case studies round out the book with topics such as predictive maintenance, soft sensing, and forecasting. Viewed as a guide book, this manual will lead a practitioner through the journey of a data science project in the oil and gas industry circumventing the pitfalls and articulating the business value. Chart an overview of the techniques and tools of machine learning including all the non-technological aspects necessary to be successful Gain practical understanding of machine learning used in oil and gas operations through contributed case studies Learn change management skills that will help gain confidence in pursuing the technology Understand the workflow of a full-scale project and where machine learning benefits (and where it does not)

Book History Exploration Exploitation of Oil and Gas

Download or read book History Exploration Exploitation of Oil and Gas written by Silvia Fernanda Figueirôa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume discusses scientific and technological aspects of the history of the oil and gas industry in national and international contexts. The search for oil for industrial uses began in the nineteenth century, the first drills made in Azerbaijan and the United States. This intense search for a substance to become one of the most important energy sources was, many times, based on skill as well as luck, resulting in knowledge and the development of prospecting and exploration technologies. The demand for oil improved expertise in geological science, in areas such as micropaleontology, stratigraphy or sedimentology and informed different disciplines such as geophysics. These contributions made possible not only the discovery of new oil fields but also new applications and methods of exploration. Beyond the scientific and technological aspects, an industry that grew to such considerable size also impacted the political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and diplomatic issues in history. The book approaches these changes in different scales, countries, areas, and perspectives. This edited book appeals to researchers, student, practitioners in various fields from geology and geophysics to history. It is also an important resource for professionals in the oil and gas industry.

Book The International Political Economy of Oil and Gas

Download or read book The International Political Economy of Oil and Gas written by Slawomir Raszewski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses energy research from four distinct International Political Economy perspectives: energy security, governance, legal and developmental areas. Energy is too important to be neglected by political scientists. Yet, within the mainstream of the discipline energy research still remains a peripheral area of academic enquiry seeking to plug into the discipline’s theoretical debates. The purpose of this book is to assess how existing perspectives fit with our understanding of social science energy research by focusing on the oil and gas dimension.

Download or read book A Play for Oil written by Tim Daley and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You hold in your hands the most original guide to understanding the oil and gas world – from exploration and production to the related economics and geopolitics. Tim Daley has spent years travelling the world and living as an expatriate in a quest to secure resources and meet humanity’s energy demands. After several decades in the hydrocarbon business, he was keen to write a book about his experiences in an easily accessible language, enabling everyone to grasp the technicalities involved in evaluating the resources that lie beneath our feet. If you want to learn how hydrocarbons are discovered and produced, Tim’s explanations have the added colour of vivid descriptions of the sites discussed and allow you to meet some of the most important characters in the industry, and to gain new insights into this global industry. In addition, the depictions of key events and locations add an element of national politics and travelogue feel. This book is intended for all members of the general public interested in how hydrocarbon resources are discovered, providing a concise account of how oil geologists view the subsurface, and illustrated by the author’s personal experiences in countries around the world. The book will also be of interest to ex-oil industry workers, allow geologists to compare the author’s experiences to their own, and provide non-geologists essential insights into how the oil is won. Written in an informal style, it makes for a relaxing yet informative reading experience.

Book Local Content Policies in the Oil and Gas Sector

Download or read book Local Content Policies in the Oil and Gas Sector written by Silvana Tordo and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2013-07-22 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of countries have recently discovered and are developing oil and gas reserves. Policy makers in such countries are anxious to obtain the greatest benefits for their economies from the extraction of these exhaustible resources by designing appropriate policies to achieve desired goals. One important theme of such policies is the so-called local content created by the sector—the extent to which the output of the extractive industry sector generates further benefits to the economy beyond the direct contribution of its value-added, through its links to other sectors. While local content policies have the potential to stimulate broad-based economic development, their application in petroleum-rich countries has achieved mixed results. This paper describes the policies and practices meant to foster the development of economic linkages from the petroleum sector, as adopted by a number of petroleum-producing countries both in and outside the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Examples of policy objectives, implementation tools, and reporting metrics are provided to derive lessons of wider applicability. The paper presents various conclusions for policy makers about the design of local content policies.
