Book Building Resilience of Human Natural Systems of Pastoralism in the Developing World

Download or read book Building Resilience of Human Natural Systems of Pastoralism in the Developing World written by Shikui Dong and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume summarizes information about the situational context, threats, problems, challenges and solutions for sustainable pastoralism at a global scale. The book has four goals. The first goal is to summarize the information about the history, distribution and patterns of pastoralism and to identify the importance of pastoralism from social, economic and environmental perspectives. The results of an empirical investigation of the environmental and socio-economic implications of pastoralism in representative pastoral regions in the world are also incorporated. The second goal is to argue that breaking coupled human-natural systems of pastoralism leads to degradation of pastoral ecosystems and to create an analysis framework to assess the vulnerability of worldwide pastoralism. Our analysis framework provides approaches to help comprehensively understand the transitions and the impacts of human-natural systems in the pastoral regions in the world. The third goal is to identify the successful models in promoting coupled human-natural systems of pastoralism, and to learn lessons of breaking coupled human-cultural pastoralism systems through examining the representative cases in regions including Central Asia, Southern and Eastern Asia, Northern and Eastern Africa, the European Alps and South America. The fourth goal is to identify the strategies to build the resilience of the coupled human-natural systems of pastoralism worldwide. We hope that our book can facilitate the further examination of sustainable development of coupled human-natural systems of pastoralism by providing the summaries of existing data and information related to the pastoralism development, and by offering a framework for better understanding and analysis of their social, economic and environmental implications.

Book The Price of Pastoral Care and Dealing with the Vision for the Church

Download or read book The Price of Pastoral Care and Dealing with the Vision for the Church written by Sinclair L. Thorne and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People from various walks of life will accept the call to pastor a church without any idea about how to be a pastor, the responsibilities of a pastor, and what to do with the vision that God has given them for the church. In his book, the author, who has served as a pastor for over 22 years, provides a Biblical perspective of what the pastor needs to know and the price that must be paid when accepting the call to lead God's people. Several critical areas of pastorship are addressed, including the price of pastoring; the price of pastoring those with whom we disagree, the price of pastoring the brokenhearted; the price of pastoring those who are stumbling blocks and hindrances to the forward moving of the ministry; the privileges and rewards of pastoring; what to do with the vision that God has given for the church; and extending the vision to the community. This is a timely and valuable resource and should be a part of every pastor's and pastoral student's library. Rev. Dr. Sinclair L. Thorne has served as the pastor of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, Georgia for over 22 years. He is a graduate of ITC Theological Seminary Extension Course, Morehouse School of Religion, and has a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Religion in Pastoral Care from the New Life Bible Community School of Ministry and Bible Institute of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He retired from the U.S. Army as First Sergeant of Charlie Company, 24th Support Battalion in 1992, after returning from the Gulf War. He is the former President of the Ministerial Alliance of Liberty County, Dean and Assistant Program Coordinator for the Tattnall Baptist Association, and President of the First District of the Georgia Missionary Baptist Convention.

Book The Landscape of Pastoral Learning

Download or read book The Landscape of Pastoral Learning written by Ronald R. Rojas and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-07-29 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those experienced in pastoral formation realize that pastoral experiences are best converted into pastoral learning when adequately targeted, practiced, and processed. This handbook suggests five conceptual underpinnings to improve the pastoral learning environment in a parish setting: (a) the significance of the term "vocation", (b) Church guidance for pastoral learning, (c) principles of experiential learning, (d) knowing the difference between career mentoring and pastoral mentoring, and (e) the value of group processing of pastoral experiences. These underpinnings provide the rationale for suggesting the concept of Teaching Parish, a model that parallels the Teaching Hospital.
