Book Theoretical Study of Conditions Limiting V STOL Testing in Wind Tunnels with Solid Floor

Download or read book Theoretical Study of Conditions Limiting V STOL Testing in Wind Tunnels with Solid Floor written by Harry H. Heyson and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under sufficiently large wake deflections, the forward portion of the wake is found to flow forward along the floor leading to a vortex pattern which results in Rae's limits (Journal of Aircraft, May-June 1967). Although wind-tunnel data cannot normally be corrected successfully beyond these limits, it may be possible to obtain ground-effect data for conditions more severe than those implied by Rae.

Book Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics

Download or read book Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics written by J. Gordon Leishman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-12-23 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helicopters are highly capable and useful rotating-wing aircraft with roles that encompass a variety of civilian and military applications. Their usefulness lies in their unique ability to take off and land vertically, to hover stationary relative to the ground, and to fly forward, backward, or sideways. These unique flying qualities, however, come at a high cost including complex aerodynamic problems, significant vibrations, high levels of noise, and relatively large power requirements compared to fixed-wing aircraft. This book, written by an internationally recognized expert, provides a thorough, modern treatment of the aerodynamic principles of helicopters and other rotating-wing vertical lift aircraft. Every chapter is extensively illustrated and concludes with a bibliography and homework problems. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students, practising engineers, and researchers will welcome this thorough and up-to-date text on rotating-wing aerodynamics.

Book Tabulation of Mass flow Parameters for Use in Design of Turbomachine Blade Rows for Ratios of Specific Heats of 1 3 and 1 4

Download or read book Tabulation of Mass flow Parameters for Use in Design of Turbomachine Blade Rows for Ratios of Specific Heats of 1 3 and 1 4 written by Warren J. Whitney and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mass-flow tables for ratios of specific heats of 1.3 and 1.4 are presented for the entire range of critical velocity ratio. The tables enable a quick and accurate determination of the integrated average specific mass flow across a region where the end-point velocities are known, commensurate with the assumptions that the total state is constant and the static pressure varies linearly between the two velocities. A numerical example is included to illustrate the use of the tables. All quantities are in nondimensional form and are tabulated sgainst critical velocity ratio. The tables include specific-mass-flow parameter and ratio of static to total pressure.

Book Some Static Longitudinal Stability Characteristics of an Overlapped type Tandem rotor Helicopter at Low Airspeeds

Download or read book Some Static Longitudinal Stability Characteristics of an Overlapped type Tandem rotor Helicopter at Low Airspeeds written by Robert J. Tapscott and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flight measurements of some longitudinal static stability characteristics with an overlapped-type tandem-rotor helicopter at low airspeeds are presented. The data show that a critical amount of longitudinal control is required to maintain trimmed flight at certain combinations of airspeed and rate of descent. Estimates based on theoretically predicted interference effects indicate that the front rotor downwash acting on the rear rotor could cause variation of the longitudinal moments of the same order of magnitude as the measured variation.

Book Wind tunnel Studies of the Performance of Multirotor Configurations

Download or read book Wind tunnel Studies of the Performance of Multirotor Configurations written by Richard C. Dingeldein and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The power requirements measured in static thrust and in level forward flight are presented for two helicopter rotor configurations. One is a coaxial rotor arrangement having the rotors spaced approximately 19 percent of the rotor radius; the other is a tandem configuration in which the rotor-shaft spacing is 3 percent greater than the rotor daimater and in which the rotors lie in the same plane. The experimental meausrements are compared with the results of calculations based on existing NACA single-rotor theory.
