Book Catalogue of English Bible Translations

Download or read book Catalogue of English Bible Translations written by William J. Chamberlin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1991-12-10 with total page 946 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While other Bible catalogs are available, this comprehensive reference book is destined to become the standard in the field. Chamberlin's one-volume work traces the publication history of multiple editions of Bible translations and offers valuable decriptive annotations. The catalog not only includes complete Bibles, but also Old and New Testaments, partial texts, commentaries that include translations, children's Bibles, Apocryphal writings, and the Koran, as well. Other bibliographies are usually limited to editions commonly found in academic libraries, but Chamberlin's guide also includes Bibles found in private collections. Overall, this catalogue contains more than five times as many entries of different English translations as two other Bible bibliographies, those by Hill and Herbert, combined. The entries are grouped in 151 categories, and within each category entries are listed in chronological order. The accompanying annotations identify the translator and provide an overview of the contents of each work. The detailed indexes make this bibliography a convenient tool for researchers. Bible scholars, collectors, and rare book dealers will find this catalogue a necessary addition to their libraries.

Book Reconstructing Theological Ethics

Download or read book Reconstructing Theological Ethics written by P. A. McGavin and published by De Gruyter Poland. This book was released on 2024-02-19 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theological Ethics in the book title is intended to mark a departure from the manner of Catholic practice named Moral Theology. This departure has two strands, because the practice that the Second Vatican Council critically addressed was a manualist tradition, while much of the practice following the Council has been represented as relativist. This book is not manualist in that the focus is upon method rather than on codified specification of behaviours. The work is not relativist in that the focus on method is firstly scriptural, approaching scripture in a holistic or canonical manner; and, further, is lawful, in an approach of law that focuses less on precept and more on understandings of natural law that brings together phenomenological evidences and scriptural evidences. The scriptural and natural law perspective present in the book also engages cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary learnings. These streams of scripture, natural law, and inter/cross-disciplinary learnings have a confluence in discourse in the manner of dialogue, a manner that is dialogical. An essential aspect of dialogue under the banner of Reconstructing Theological Ethics is that it should engage contemporary culture––not in a sense that contemporaneity or modernity should be determinative, but in the sense that the reasoning, argumentation, and dialogue should have resonance with contemporary thinking and rethinking of issues that remain in contention for contemporary audiences. Theological Ethics is a wide remit, and the book provides a methodological focus on Selected Topics in Human Sexuality.

Book Reasoning from Beyond the Tombs

Download or read book Reasoning from Beyond the Tombs written by Ngô Tôn-Long and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This millennium of the Christian era came with wars-war against imperialism and war on terrorism, war on infidels and war against evil. That is more than enough for a miserable Vietnamese, born in the beginning of the 1939-1945 World War, grown up during the 1945-1975 civil wars over that miserable country, and terminated right at the end of his 35th year of age, that miserable year: 'Dust taken out of the ground', he had returned to dust off the ground, waiting these thirty five years now for the return as dust to the ground. On his spiritual journey backwards some millennia into the Ancient Hebrews' spirituality, he discovered their YHVH-God who has never been ever taught of before-as whose challenge that is "Let us reason together!" has been taken up ever since 1986-in view of a post-postmodern world without any of the political intrigue, military violence, and global terrorism that could never be justified in front of YHVH-under whose Spirit the vision shall be no utopia.

Book Worship Adoration and Action

Download or read book Worship Adoration and Action written by D. A. Carson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2002-09-10 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anxious that current interest in and discussion of worship are too much preoccupied with mere mechanics, Dr. Carson joined with an international group of scholars to produce this final volume of the five Tyndale Consultations. First, a biblical theology of worship is explored by the Japanese, Yoshiaki Hattori, and the Australian, David Peterson. From this foundation, there follow reflections upon the practice of worship in nine different contexts: denominational (including Anglicanism and Lutheranism), cultural (South America and the Two Thirds World), and also the charismatic movement and student groups. In the final part, the Croat theologian Miroslav Volf concludes that worship is Òthe outworking of God-centredness in individual and corporate experience'. The opinions expressed, although at times in disagreement with one another, are an indication of the wealth of diversity within the worldwide church.
