Book The Superintendent s Fieldbook

Download or read book The Superintendent s Fieldbook written by Nelda Cambron-McCabe and published by Corwin Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The goals and challenges for district leaders are constantly changing. Leadership and governance are only parts of the puzzle when other elements such as the NCLB legislation, budgets, standards and assessment, changing demographics, and public engagement are brought into the picture. Today's superintendent needs an effective tool to help steer the school district to success. Drawing on the experiences of nearly 200 superintendents over the past ten years, The Superintendent's Fieldbook offers guidance that can be referenced again and again. Written for current and future superintendents, principals, school board members and teachers, this valuable guide is divided into nine sections--each offering ideas to implement, practical lessons, exercises, and questions for reflective practice. The authors identify seven key "commonplaces" of the successful modern superintendent including: Leading within a governance structure; Understanding and addressing standards and assessment; Considering race, class, and the achievement gap; Developing your schools' principals from building managers to leaders of learning; Exploring collaborations with agencies of government and organizational allies; Engaging your community to construct a shared vision of the future. Vignettes describing real events and situations will help you connect lessons learned to your own district experiences, and help you and your district thrive in the rapidly changing world of education." -- Publisher.

Book Handbook of Principles of Organizational Behavior

Download or read book Handbook of Principles of Organizational Behavior written by Edwin Locke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a strong movement today in management to encourage management practices based on research evidence. In the first volume of this handbook, I asked experts in 39 areas of management to identify a central principle that summarized and integrated the core findings from their specialty area and then to explain this principle and give real business examples of the principle in action. I asked them to write in non-technical terms, e.g., without a lot of statistics, and almost all did so. The previous handbook proved to be quite popular, so I was asked to edit a second edition. This new edition has been expanded to 33 topics, and there are some new authors for the previously included topics. The new edition also includes: updated case examples, updated references and practical exercises at the end of each chapter. It also includes a preface on evidence-based management. The principles for the first edition were intended to be relatively timeless, so it is no surprise that most of the principles are the same (though some chapter titles include more than one principle). This book could serve as a textbook in advanced undergraduate and in MBA courses. It could also be of use to practicing managers and not just those in Human Resource departments. Every practicing manager may not want to read the whole book, but I am willing to guarantee that every one will find at least one or more chapters that will be practically useful. In this time of economic crisis, the need for effective management practices is more acute than ever.

Book A New Principal s Field Guide

Download or read book A New Principal s Field Guide written by Richard Webster and published by . This book was released on 2022-10-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nothing adequately prepares a new school leader for their position, not prior experience, education, or most academic literature. Efforts to interpret the complexities of new academic leadership into sequential steps, 'how-to's', and 'have-to's, all fall short since they underestimate the true challenges of inter-personal dynamics, the politics of educating, and change management, and neglect the positive forces that often rescue new principals, such as learning how to educate and motivate adults, creating a coherent school narrative, and developing adaptive skills alongside the technical. New Principal: A Primer is a unique exercise in principal support. Weaving bits of diary and memoir, go-to phrases and schema-accessibly organized either to be read straight through or quickly as a ready-reference as needed-NPAP provides new academic leaders perspective on, and suggested solutions to, the standard hurdles: myriad demands-Touch it Once; passive teachers-Stoking the Fire; addressing implicit bias and interrupting racism-Keep Picturing the Kids; or, modeling leadership-Be Present.

However, even the best educational leaders can be unprepared for the responsibility of spending and accounting for the thousands of dollars that pass through a school's books each year. Without solid understanding of school financial management, administrators may find these reponsibilities a serious distraction from their primary pedagogical mission. They may also risk damage to their careers and to the reputations of their schools. School Money Matters is a concise, practical desk reference, based on sound accounting principles and written specifically for professionals at the school level. It includes understandable guidance on twenty critical topics such as Activity Fund Safeguards, Admission Tickets, Audits, School Credit/Purchasing Cards, Employee Embezzlement, Fund-Raising Events, Gifts to Students or Staff, Parent Organizations, Vending Services, and the School Budget. Featuring a comprehensive glossary of school financial terms, graphic organizers to clarify accounting concepts, and a checklist for monitoring financial activities throughout the school year, this book provides the information principals need to safeguard and protect themselves - and their staffs - from the suspicion of theft or laxness so that maximum time can be devoted to placing instructional resources in the hands of students and staff.
