Book Olympics in Conflict

Download or read book Olympics in Conflict written by Lu Zhouxiang and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second half of the twentieth century, the Olympics played an important role in the politics of the Cold War and was part of the conflicts between the Capitalist Block, the Socialist Block and Third World countries. The Games of the New Emerging Forces (GANEFO) is one of the best examples of the politicization of sport and the Olympics in the Cold War era. From the 1980s onward, the Olympics has facilitated communication and cooperation between nations in the post–Cold War era and contributed to the formation of a new world order. In August 2016, the Games of the XXXI Olympiad were held in Rio de Janeiro, making Brazil the first South American country to host the Summer Olympics. This was widely regarded as a new landmark event in the history of the modern Olympic movement. From the GANEFO to Rio, the Olympic Games have witnessed the shifting balance in international politics and world economy. This book aims at understanding the transformation of the Olympics over the past decades and tries to explain how the Olympic movement played its part in world politics, the world economy and international relations against the background of the rise of developing countries. The chapters in this book were published as a special issue in The International Journal of the History of Sport.

Book The New Emerging Credit Union World

Download or read book The New Emerging Credit Union World written by Wendell V. Fountain D. B. a. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Second Edition of THE CREDIT UNION WORLD: Theory, Process, Practice--Cases & Applicaton. The First Edition was released just prior to the financial melt-down and the skyrocketing debt of the United States. As a result of the political and financial upheaval, both in the U.S. and abroad, it was imperative that a second edition be published at this time. Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac, federal government backed mortgages, have been a disaster in the mortgage and housing market, leaving home owners all over America in foreclosure, underwater, or in serious distress. Since the federal government has become so intrusive into the corporate world by taking over entire industries such as automobile factories and meddling directly into the banking industry and Wallstreet in general, these issues do effect the credit union world.

Book Emerging China

Download or read book Emerging China written by Sudhir T. Devare and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-21 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume seeks to examine the evolving contours of Asian multilateralism through emerging China and how it is likely to impact on the growth trajectories of Asian countries. From this perspective, it explores the prospects for ‘partnership’ in Asia, especially in terms of China’s engagement with its principal Asian neighbours, especially India. A substantial part of the volume is devoted to debating China–India relations, highlighting their mutual stakes through their economic and security cooperation as well as their engagement with other countries and regional forums. The book furthers the understanding of the rise of China from an Indian perspective while simultaneously locating China’s rise in the economic dynamics of an emerging Asia. The volume offers illuminating viewpoints, analyses and insights from multiple perspectives, mixed with academic rigour and up-to-date information. It will be of interest to those engaged in economics, politics, trade relations, Indo-China relations, foreign policy, area studies, public policy, and strategic studies.

Book A Hinge of History

Download or read book A Hinge of History written by George P. Shultz and published by Hoover Press. This book was released on 2020-11-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is at an inflection point. Advancing technologies are creating new opportunities and challenges. Great demographic changes are occurring rapidly, with significant consequences. Governance everywhere is in disarray. A new world is emerging. These are some of the key insights to emerge from a series of interdisciplinary roundtables and global expert contributions hosted by the Hoover Institution. In these pages, George P. Shultz and James Timbie examine a range of issues shaping our present and future, region by region. Concrete proposals address migration, reversing the decline of K–12 education, updating the social safety net, maintaining economic productivity, protecting our democratic processes, improving national security, and more. Meeting these transformational challenges will require international cooperation, constructive engagement, and strong governance. The United States is well positioned to ride this wave of change—and lead other nations in doing the same.
