Book The New Covenant on Trial

Download or read book The New Covenant on Trial written by Wayne Talbot and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-02-16 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if Replacement Theology, as has been taught in Christian circles for nearly two millennia is, in fact, a Christian myth? What if the doctrine developed by the Church of Rome in those early years, was built not in concert with what was taught by the Jewish Apostles, but in opposition by the Gentile converts? What if Paul’s attempts to make sense of how the new era in Christ could be explained to both Jew and Gentile, whilst allowing each to remain as called, was subsequently misinterpreted? What if the middle-wall of separation that the Messiah sought to tear down, was put back up again as a result of a schism between the Gentile and the Jew, with neither party quite getting it right? Putting The New Covenant on Trial, the author seeks to understand how the long-standing cultural differences between Jew and Gentile led to not simply a new covenant, but to a Replacement Covenant. Paul taught inclusion theology, the Gentile joining with the Jew, being nourished from the original vine. For centuries the Jews had excluded the Gentiles unless they agreed to become proselytes, non-Jewish Jews in a religious sense. Eventually with the centre of the religion moving from Jerusalem to Rome, and Hebraic thought patterns replaced with the Hellenic thought patterns of the now majority Gentile congregation, inclusion theology was turned on its head. Replacement theology became exclusion theology for Jews, and the iron hand of Rome began the persecutions that have existed to this day. This sounds like fiction, but it is not. It is not an untold story, but is seldom heard from the perspective of Christian doctrine. This book seeks to provide the evidence that the Church of Rome strayed from the way of the Messiah, and has taught others to do the same.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is believer’s baptism the clear teaching of the New Testament Scriptures? What are the historical and theological challenges to believer’s baptism? What are the practical applications for believer’s baptism today? Volume two in the NEW AMERICAN COMMENTARY STUDIES IN BIBLE & THEOLOGY (NACSBT) series for pastors, advanced Bible students, and other deeply committed laypersons addresses these compelling questions. Indeed, Believer’s Baptism begins with the belief that believer’s baptism (as opposed to infant baptism or other faith proclaiming methods) is the clear teaching of the New Testament. Along the way, the argument is supported by written contributions from Andreas Kostenberger, Robert Stein, Thomas Schreiner, Stephen Wellum, Steve McKinion, Jonathan Rainbow, Shawn Wright, and Mark Dever. Users will find this an excellent extension of the long-respected NEW AMERICAN COMMENTARY.

Book excerpt: The casebook’s traditional organization begins with formation and then corresponds to the sequence followed by the Restatement (2nd) of Contracts and treatises. Its concise, efficient presentation results in an optimum length for the course. Transactional issues such as drafting, client counseling, and negotiation are emphasized through the use of questions and small exercises throughout the text. Strengthening the text’s focus on contemporary methods of contracting, modern issues in standard contracts are explored along with contracts entered into electronically. International and comparative material offers alternative approaches for students to consider, such as those taken by the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts. New to the Fifth Edition: A continuing focus on contracting via electronic media. Fresh cases, problems, and text throughout the book to update the discussion and provide new perspectives on contemporary approaches to the law. An increase in the number of problems and the conversion of former case notes into problems. Revised multiple choice self-assessment questions for each chapter at the end of the book. Professors and students will benefit from: The most important feature of the book is its deliberate design to be accessible and interesting to students and to provide them with materials that are challenging and thought-provoking, but also coherent and carefully organized so as to avoid unnecessary confusion. The cases in the book are carefully edited and are selected for accessibility, interesting and attractive facts, and clear exposition. Modern cases, many of which are very recent, are emphasized, but the book contains a good selection of older cases that are iconic or continue to be the best cases for teaching a particular subject. The book adopts a multifaceted approach to learning, including textual exposition, case analysis, questions, and problems. While some problems are relatively simple others are more complex. Many problems are based on decided cases, which are summarized briefly in the text of the problem.

Book excerpt: From a brilliant young legal scholar comes this sweeping history of American ideas of belonging and citizenship, told through the stories of fourteen legal cases that helped to shape our nation. Spanning three centuries, Black Trials details the legal challenges and struggles that helped define the ever-shifting identity of blacks in America. From the well-known cases of Plessy v. Ferguson and the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings to the more obscure trial of Joseph Hanno, an eighteenth-century free black man accused of murdering his wife and bringing smallpox to Boston, Weiner recounts the essential dramas of American identity—illuminating where our conception of minority rights has come from and where it might go. Significant and enthralling, these are the cases that forced the courts and the country to reconsider what it means to be black in America, and Mark Weiner demonstrates their lasting importance for our society.
