Book Analysis of Neutron Yield Produced by High Energy Proton 400 and 660 MeV

Download or read book Analysis of Neutron Yield Produced by High Energy Proton 400 and 660 MeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vasil'kov et al.'s experiments for neutron yield and neutron capture distribution produced by 400 and 660 MeV protons were analyzed by using ENDF/B-IV data and the BNL codes NMTC and TWOTRAN. The calculated total neutron radiative capture by 238U is 77 and 60% of the measured values for protons of 660 and 400 MeV, respectively. The calculated distribution has the higher peak in the central part of the target system, and steeper gradient both in the r and z directions, compared to experimental. The leakage rate of neutrons from the target assembly is calculated as more than 20%, which is much higher than the 10% estimated from the experiment. The total neutron captures determined using ENDF/B-IV are 3.8 and 3.0% higher than those determined using ENDF/B-III for protons of 660 and 400 MeV, respectively. 12 references.

Book Calculated Proton induced Thick target Radionuclide Activation Yields and Neutron Yield Spectra for E

Download or read book Calculated Proton induced Thick target Radionuclide Activation Yields and Neutron Yield Spectra for E written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radionuclide production cross sections have been calculated with the GNASH code for protons below 50 MeV incident of on the stable nuclides of a range of elements common to accelerator materials. These elements include C, O, Ne, Al, Si, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and W. These data, augmented with limited measured data, have been used with the proton stopping cross-section data of Anderson and Ziegler to calculate thick-target yield values for the formation of a range of radionuclides in accelerator materials. Illustrative results are presented. GNASH calculations have also been made on a grid of proton energies below 50 MeV to produce differential cross sections describing angle-integrated neutron production spectra. The angular distribution systematics of Kalbach and Mann have been used to produce double-differential cross-section, which were used with the proton stopping data to produce anisotropic thick-target neutron yield spectra. Results are presented for 52-MeV protons on a thick target of Cu. Comparisons are made with results of HETC calculations, using cross sections from the intranuclear cascade plus evaporation model, and with thick-target neutron yield spectra measured by Nakamura, Fijii, and Shin. 15 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.

Book Nuclear Data for Science and Technology

Download or read book Nuclear Data for Science and Technology written by Syed M. Qaim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1041 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the Proceedings of the International Conference on Nuclear Data for Science and Technology held at Jillich in May 1991. The conference was in a series of application oriented nuclear data conferences organized in the past under the auspices of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Nuclear Data Committee (NEANDC) and with the support of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Committee on Reactor Physics (NEACRP). It was the fIrst international conference on nuclear data held in Germany, with the scientific responsibility entrusted to the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry of the Research Centre Jillich. The scientific programme was established by the International Programme Committee in consultation with the International Advisers, and the NEA and IAEA cooperated in the organization. A total of 328 persons from 37 countries and fIve international organizations participated. The scope of these Proceedings extends to a wide range of interdisciplinary topics dealing with measu rement, calculation, evaluation and application of nuclear data, with a major emphasis on numerical data. Both energy and non-energy related applications are considered and due attention is given to some fundamental aspects relevant to the understanding of nuclear data.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents, with some amplification, the notes on the lectures on nuclear physics given by Enrico Fermi at the University of Chicago in 1949. "The compilers of this publication may be warmly congratulated. . . . The scope of this course is amazing: within 240 pages it ranges from the general properties of atomic nuclei and nuclear forces to mesons and cosmic rays, and includes an account of fission and elementary pile theory. . . . The course addresses itself to experimenters rather than to specialists in nuclear theory, although the latter will also greatly profit from its study on account of the sound emphasis laid everywhere on the experimental approach to problems. . . . There is a copious supply of problems."—Proceedings of the Physical Society "Only a relatively few students are privileged to attend Professor Fermi's brilliant lectures at the University of Chicago; it is therefore a distinct contribution to the followers of nuclear science that his lecture material has been systematically organized in a publication and made available to a much wider audience."—Nucelonics

Book Neutron Physics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Karl-Heinrich Beckurts
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-29
  • ISBN : 3642876145
  • Pages : 455 pages

Download or read book Neutron Physics written by Karl-Heinrich Beckurts and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based upon a series of lectures I have occasionally given at the University of Gottingen since 1951. They were meant to introduce the students of experimental physics to the work in a neutron physics laboratory dealing with the problem of measuring neutron flux, diffusion length, Fermi age, effective neutron temperature, absorption cross sections and similar problems. Moreover, these lectures were intended to prepare the students for a subsequent lecture covering the physics of nuclear reactors. The original character of this series of lectures has been retained in the book. It is intended for use by students as well as anyone desiring to work on neutron physics measurements. The first half mainly covers the theory of neutron fields, i. e. essentially diffusion and slowing down theory. The second half is largely concerned with measurements in neutron fields. The appendix contains information and data which, in our experience, are frequently required in a neutron laboratory. The field of nuclear physics proper is briefly touched upon in the first two chapters, but only to the extent necessary for the understanding of the following chapters. The multitude of applications of neutron radiation has not been covered. The conclusion of this manuscript coincided with the end of my long period of activity with the Max-Planck-Institut fur Physik at Gottingen. To Professor HEISENBERG lowe thanks for his advice and suggestions for many of the subjects treated here.
