Book excerpt: A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.

Book excerpt: What Apostle Paul meant when he said in Romans 11:25 that hardening in part has come over Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. Apostle Paul calls this a mystery or secret. What's the mystery, then? Who is the Fullness of the Gentiles?Apostle Paul wrote several powerful epistles to his fellow Jews and Gentiles filled with prophetic references to what was written in the Tanakh, also known as the First Testament or Old Testament. Apostle Paul, a man who was a persecutor of the followers of Messiah, became a champion of faith by the grace of the Heavenly Father and splendidly expounded on the mystery of Messiah and Gospel, which was hidden for long ages past. What was the mystery of the Messiah hidden in the past generations but was revealed to the Gentiles of the New Testament?Who were the Gentiles in the New Testament? What was the mystery of the death of the Messiah? What is the Whole Good News? What was the Good News first preached to Abraham? The answer will astound you. This book also examines some of the common doctrinal issues that have fractionated the mainstream Jewish and Christian faith, like Torah and Grace, Replacement Theology and the New Covenant etc.Is Torah in the Old Testament still relevant to the New Testament believers? To whom the Torah was given initially?Should Christians be Torah observant? What was nailed to the stake? What was the dividing wall of hostility between Jews and Gentiles?Who is the Lost Sheep? What was new about the New Covenant and to whom the New Covenant is given? Is Replacement Theology biblical?Has the Christian church superseded Israel? What was the Parable of the Prodigal Son all about? Most believers in the Messiah agree that we are living in the last days. Therefore, it's time to ensure that we are walking right with our Creator's ways and our theology aligns with the scriptures breathed by the Almighty. It's time to open up our Bible and Test Every Teaching like Bereans- (Acts 17:11).

Book Reading Romans within Judaism

Download or read book Reading Romans within Judaism written by Mark D. Nanos and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-06-28 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over fifty years ago, Vatican II’s Nostra Aetate 4 drew from Romans 11 to challenge the way Paul’s voice has been used to negatively discuss Jews and Judaism. The church called for Catholics to conceptualize Jews as “brothers” in “an everlasting covenant,” and many other Christian organizations have expressed similar sentiments in the years since. Nevertheless, the portrayal of Jews as “branches broken off,” “hardened,” “without faith,” “disobedient,” and “enemies of God” whom Christians have “replaced” as “true Israel,” are among the many ways that readers encounter Paul’s views of Jews and Judaism in today’s translations and interpretations of this chapter, and throughout the letter as well. In the chapters in this volume, Nanos shows why these translations and interpretive decisions, among others, do not likely represent what Paul wrote or meant. Each essay offers challenges to the received view of Paul from the research hypothesis that Paul and the Christ-followers to whom he wrote were still practicing Judaism (a Jewish way of life) within subgroups of the Jewish synagogue communities of Rome, and that they understood Paul to observe Torah and promote Judaism for their communities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul's letter to the Romans, says Nanos, is an example of Jewish correspondence, addressing believers in Jesus who are steeped in Jewish ways-whether of Jewish or gentile origin. Arguing against those who think Paul was an apostate from Judaism, Nanos maintains Paul's continuity with his Jewish heritage. Several key arguments here are: Those addressed in Paul's letter were still an integral part of the Roman synagogue communities. The "weak" are non- Christian Jews, while the "strong" included both Jewish and gentile converts to belief in Jesus. Paul as a practicing devout Jew insists on the rules of behavior for "the righteous gentiles." Christian subordination to authorities (Romans 13:1-7) is intended to enforce submission to leaders of the synagogues, not Roman government officials. Paul behaves in a way to confirm the very Jewish portrait of him in Acts: going first to the synagogues.
