Book excerpt: What Do History and Archaeology Really say about the origins of ancient Israel? Although the bible says that Israel's formative history took place in ancient Egypt, biblical scholars and Egyptologists have steadfastly refused to explore the role of Egyptian history and literature on the origins of Jewish religion. The Moses Mystery attempts to set the record straight. Based on extensive research into biblical and Egyptian history, archaeology, literature and mythology Greenberg argues that the first Israelites were Egyptians, followers of the monotheistic teachings of Pharaoh Akhenaten. Some of the many intriguing revelations in The Moses Mystery include: -Ancient Egyptian records specifically identify Moses as Akhenaten's chief priest and describe the Exodus as the result of a civil war for control over the Egyptian throne - Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were characters from Egyptian mythology - The Twelve Tribes of Israel never existed

In this new compendium in the popular Seventy series, an international team of Egyptologists and archaeologists probes the most compelling mysteries in the light of recent research and discoveries. First, there are the puzzles that set the ancient Egyptians apart from other cultures. Where did these people come from originally, and why did they believe their king was a god? Why did they mummify their loved ones in deathand then write letters to them? Some mysteries revolve around Egypt's relations with other peoples such as the lost African kingdoms of Yam and Punt, the Israelites and their exodus to the Promised Land, or the Sea People warriors of the ancient Mediterranean. Even today, Egyptologists continue to unearth new mysteries: evidence that Tutankhamun was murdered, unexplained shafts inside the Great Pyramid that seem to align with the stars, and a massive mausoleum built for the sons of Rameses II. All the famous people and places of ancient Egypt are discussedRameses the Great, Cleopatra, Akhenaten, the Great Pyramid, the Valley of the Kingsas well as fascinating but shadowy figures such as Senenmut, Smendes, and Khababash. Hundreds of evocative photographs and specially commissioned diagrams, maps, plans, and reconstructions complement the intriguing texts. 420 illustrations, 354 in color.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2014 Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature A thousand years ago, the most perfect copy of the Hebrew Bible was written. It was kept safe through one upheaval after another in the Middle East, and by the 1940s it was housed in a dark grotto in Aleppo, Syria, and had become known around the world as the Aleppo Codex. Journalist Matti Friedman’s true-life detective story traces how this precious manuscript was smuggled from its hiding place in Syria into the newly founded state of Israel and how and why many of its most sacred and valuable pages went missing. It’s a tale that involves grizzled secret agents, pious clergymen, shrewd antiquities collectors, and highly placed national figures who, as it turns out, would do anything to get their hands on an ancient, decaying book. What it reveals are uncomfortable truths about greed, state cover-ups, and the fascinating role of historical treasures in creating a national identity.

Book excerpt: This book goes into great detail covering the events of the early Hebrews and the patriarchs and how they influence us today in our language, culture, idioms, and beliefs. In fact, it even shows a connection to God in our DNA. I cover phases like the following: "You're eighty-sixed," which means "You're banned from here," "Party's over," and "Don't come back." "You're fired." Surely, this can't be in the Bible. Well, it is, and you will be amazed who gets fired and who doesn't. Along with the fear of God falling on people and their reaction-Abel hash-Shittiym, to Beyth hash-Shittah. These, along with many many more phases, will have you laughing so hard your sides will ache! This book traces the language of the ancient Hebrews, the Paleo-Hebrew/Phoenician script. We follow the Hebrews into Egypt and back to the Promised Land indeed out to Greece, Tuscany, Spain, and Europe. We look at the etymology of words like navy, Irish, His Royal Highness, England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. We even look at and trace the origin to words like armour, Armagh, London, Londinium, and Birmingham. It uncovers the roots of these words, their origins. This will amaze and shock you to see the undeniable truth of our connection to the Bible, Israel, and God. We look at God's mission given to Jeremiah and trace Jeremiah and the king's daughters to Ireland, Scotland, and England. We look at the promise of God to provide a place of safety for his people and a kingly line, promises clearly made in the Bible and promises kept. We look at God's promise to build on Jacob's rock (Bethel). The rock the builders of the first temple rejected became the chief cornerstone of the covenant of God. God said, "I will pluck Israel up by their roots and replant them in a land where they will not be disturbed." We provide undeniable proof of our roots and our source of all blessings! We translate words like Yahwey, Adonai, and Yeshua to give you the English version. We also look at the origin of the names of God and devil and trace them back to the Bible. We trace a new exodus route and look at why God cast Israel from his sight, i.e., the world's view, and why now he is revealing his secrets. We analyze the secrets sealed in the little book inside the book of Revelations (John), the bittersweet truth. We trace the Bible origin of the name "White House" and "America." We even identify airplane and airline in the Bible! We also analyze and corroborate a Jewish article that says the original Jewish spoke Celtic, and the Bible proves it.

Book Did I Not Bring Israel Out of Egypt

Download or read book Did I Not Bring Israel Out of Egypt written by James K. Hoffmeier and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2016-05-12 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hebrew Scriptures consider the exodus from Egypt to be Israel’s formative and foundational event. Indeed, the Bible offers no other explanation for Israel’s origin as a people. It is also true that no contemporary record regarding a man named Moses or the Israelites generally, either living in or leaving Egypt has been found. Hence, many biblical scholars and archaeologists take a skeptical attitude, dismissing the exodus from the realm of history. However, the contributors to this volume are convinced that there is an alternative, more positive approach. Using textual and archaeological materials from the ancient Near East in a comparative way, in conjunction with the Torah’s narratives and with other biblical texts, the contributors to this volume (specialists in ancient Egypt, ancient Near Eastern culture and history, and biblical studies) maintain that the reports in the Hebrew Bible should not be cavalierly dismissed for ideological reasons but, rather, should be deemed to contain authentic memories.
