Download or read book The Mystery of the Two Jesus Children written by Bernard Nesfield-Cookson and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian Gospels give two widely differing genealogies for Jesus, which have baffled theologians throughout the centuries. Not only are these genealogies irreconcilable, but the stories of the two accounts of the birth of Jesus, as given by Matthew and Luke, are also radically different. How can we account for this? An ancient tradition tells that there were two children named Jesus, a year apart in age and both born to parents named Mary and Joseph. These two children, brought up in close proximity, eventually "united" in a mysterious way, resulting in a single "Jesus" destined to grow up and fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament. In grappling with this mystery, Nesfield-Cookson uses all available sources--biblical accounts, Christian apocryphal writings, Aramaic and Hebrew documents discovered in the Qumran caves in the twentieth century (the "Dead Sea Scrolls"), writings by Syrian theologians of the thirteenth century, and, in particular, statements by Rudolf Steiner, the first modern thinker--to speak of the existence of two Jesus children. The author also refers to the many works of art--largely by Italian artists of the Renaissance period--which appear to depict two Jesus children. Fifteen of these paintings are reproduced as beautiful, full-color plates. The author also develops a parallel theme regarding the mystery of Christ and Jesus--the gradual descent of Christ (the Spirit of the Sun) from the spiritual world into the physical body of Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blyton has captivated children worldwide for almost 80 years, but there has been very little serious critical attention paid to her. This book remedies this, looking particularly at her three most popular and well-known series, Noddy, the Famous Five and Malory Towers. It is the first study to draw extensively on the views of her readership, past and present, and to use a wide variety of critical approaches to show how adult criticism has consistently missed the secret of her appeal.

In highly readable, first-person style, Mason muses on everyday miracles within marriage, and frankly addresses the demands to self which true oneness requires. "A marriage is not a joining of two worlds," says the author, "but an abandoning of two worlds in order that one new one might be formed." Rich chapters on "Otherness," "Vows," "Intimacy," "Sex," and "Submission," lift readers above the mundane in coupledom to view the eternal, spiritual nature of setting out on this faith-filled, "impossible," wild -- yet wonderful -- frontier.

Download or read book The Mystery of the Child written by Martin E. Marty and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2007-04-23 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of today's writing on children treats the child of any age as a problem or a set of problems to be solved, effectively reducing the child to a complex of biological and chemical factors, explainable in scientific terms, or regarding children as objects of adult control. In contrast, Martin Marty here presents the child as a mystery who invokes wonder and elicits creative responses that affect the care provided him or her. Drawing on literature as new as contemporary poetry and as old as the Bible, The Mystery of the Child encourages the thoughtful enjoyment of children instead of the imposition of adult will and control. Indeed, Marty treats the impulse to control as a problem and highlights qualities associated with children -- responsiveness, receptivity, openness to wonder -- that can become sources of renewal for adults. The Mystery of the Child represents a new tack for Martin Marty -- universally respected as a historian, theologian, and interpreter of religion and culture -- but displays the same incisive, erudite quality marking the fifty-plus books and thousands of articles that he has previously written. Marty's broad, thoughtful perspective will inspire readers to think afresh about what it means to be a child -- and to be a caregiver. This book is sure to claim a wide readership -- parents, grandparents, schoolteachers, theologians, historians -- engaging anyone wanting to explore more fully the profound realm of the child.

Download or read book Teaching the Mystery of God to Children written by Judy Gattis Smith and published by CSS Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book of clues... clues to the awe and immensity of God that will lead children to think about, rather than "learn" about, God. Instead of teaching in the traditional sense, it provides "clues" for a shared journey toward discovering the Divine Mystery at the core of the universe. The recent trend in Christian education has been to emphasize knowledge, and to make church school more fun and entertaining. But in our zeal to pass on the basics of the faith, we have often neglected to guide children into truly experiencing the full wonder of the almighty. We have taught them about religion, but we have not always helped them to establish a deep and meaningful relationship with God. This book approaches the mission from a different perspective - one that identifies and reaffirms the spiritual experiences young people are already having. Each chapter suggest numerous ideas for use in classes, as well as a "Time to Reflect" section for adults to recall and meditate on their own spiritual life as children. Teaching The Mystery Of God To Children is an essential resource for any parent or church school teacher who is interested in the spiritual development of their children. Subjects discussed include: The Bible Art Symbols Music Sounds Movement Words Poetry Nature Sacred Space Koans and Miracles Death Judy Gattis Smith is the author of more than a dozen books, including Teaching to Wonder, Planting Spiritual Seeds, and Developing a Child's Spiritual Growth through the Senses (Abingdon). She has also written three books for grandmothers, and she is a regular contributor to Episcopal Teacher magazine. Smith has led more than 200 workshops and seminars, and has been a keynote speaker at conferences throughout the United States.
