Book excerpt: Paul Epstein, founder of Purpose Labs, successfully steered business teams that executed billion-dollar NFL campaigns, broke Super Bowl revenue records, and generated league-leading sales results for cellar-dwelling NBA clubs. He then served as a consultant for the largest brands in business and sports. But after experiencing his own personal and career transformation, Epstein embarked on a mission to tackle a crisis of leadership. Now, in The Power of Playing Offense, Epstein invites you to meet him at the 50, and get real about taking a people-first approach that boosts performance, perseverance, and passion. As the "Why Coach" inside the San Francisco 49ers front office, one question kept Epstein up at night: Who is coaching the coaches? He noticed a crucial gap in the development of leaders; they were expected to lead others before they learned to lead themselves. In an effort to fill this gap in the market, Epstein curated this interactive playbook-and its corresponding website www.powerplayingoffense.com-for influencers and leaders like you, with more than 50 activities, tools, and strategies you can implement on Monday morning. The Power of Playing Offense will help you level up your leadership and transform your team from paycheck driven to purpose-driven, from adversity to achievement, from disengaged to inspired, from controlled to connected, and from success to significance-resulting in a life and career of fulfillment and impact.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of the twenty-first century, China is poised to become a major global power. And though much has been written of China's rise, a crucial aspect of this transformation has gone largely unnoticed: the way that China is using soft power to appeal to its neighbours and to distant countries alike. This original book is the first to examine the significance of China's recent focus on soft power, that is, diplomacy, trade incentives, cultural and educational exchange opportunities, and other techniques, to project a benign national image, pose as a model of social and economic success, and develop stronger international alliances. Drawing on years of experience tracking China's policies in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa, Joshua Kurlantzick reveals how China has wooed the world with a charm offensive that has largely escaped the attention of American policymakers. Beijing's new diplomacy has altered the political landscape in Southeast Asia and far beyond, changing the dynamics of China's relationships with other countries. China also has worked to take advantage of American policy mistakes, the author contends. In a provocative conclusion, he considers a future in which China may be the first nation since the Soviet Union to rival the U.S. in international influence.

In running this offense for 10 years and speaking across the country, there is few people I have met who have a grasp on the offense like Jack. It is only equaled by his clear and concise way of articulating and teaching the offense to players and coaches of all levels. Christopher AustinLos Alamitos Pop Warner 2006 Pop Warner National ChampionI've looked at a lot of youth football coaching materials over the years. You will not find a more complete, out of the box system anywhere. Coach Gregory's system has proven successful for teams with players as young as 5 years through the High School level. There is one thing that teams who run Gregory's system have in common - they WIN football games!!! I have run Jack's system since 2003 and have enjoyed tremendous success. This isn't just a book of X's & O's. Coach Gregory goes into great detail in explaining not just what to do, but there is great focus on the hows, whens, and whys. I promise that this book will not just make your team better, it will make you a better coach as well. In my opinion, there's not a better system out there. If there were, I'd be using it! Book Football Revolution

Download or read book Football Revolution written by Bart Wright and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2020-03-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the last twenty-five years, the most dominant offensive strategy in college football has been the spread offense, which relies on empty backfields, lots of receivers and passing, and no huddles between plays. Where the spread offense started, why it took so long to take hold, and the evolution of its many variations are the much-debated mysteries that Bart Wright sets about solving in this book. Football Revolution recovers a key, overlooked, part of the story. The book reveals how Jack Neumeier, a high school football coach in California in the 1970s, built an offensive strategy around a young player named John Elway, whose father was a coach at nearby California State University, Northridge. One of the elder Elway’s assistant coaches, Dennis Erickson, then borrowed Neumeier’s innovations and built on them, bringing what we now know as the spread offense onto the national stage at the University of Miami in the 1980s. With Erickson’s career as a lens, this book shows how the inspiration of a high school coach became the dominant offense in college football, prepping a whole generation of quarterbacks for the NFL and forever changing the way the game is played.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Violent Becomings conceptualizes the Mozambican state not as the bureaucratically ordered polity of the nation-state, but as a continuously emergent and violently challenged mode of ordering. In doing so, this book addresses the question of why colonial and postcolonial state formation has involved violent articulations with so-called ‘traditional’ forms of sociality. The scope and dynamic nature of such violent becomings is explored through an array of contexts that include colonial regimes of forced labor and pacification, liberation war struggles and civil war, the social engineering of the post-independence state, and the popular appropriation of sovereign violence in riots and lynchings.

Book excerpt: Former cohost of The 700 Club Kristi Watts reveals the pitfalls that keep Christians from true joy and demonstrates the transformational power of speaking the words and promises of God. How does a person bounce back after being beaten down personally, professionally, and emotionally? What impact do words, thoughts, and beliefs have in determining one’s level of happiness? Kristi Watts asked herself these questions after her marriage dissolved and she left a high-profile position as a cohost of The 700 Club. Initially excited to walk into a new season of life that she thought held the key to happiness, she soon stumbled into emotional pitfalls that left her discouraged, disappointed, and distant from God. Known as the upbeat host who was always filled with joy and laughter, she was anything but—yet she was determined to get her happy back! But how? By learning, as Kristi did, that true happiness is not simply acquired but rather cultivated. When one’s words focus on faulty perspectives, faith is quickly derailed, but by remembering God’s blessings and verbally claiming His promises, hearts change. Using biblical principles, Talk Yourself Happy illustrates the importance of relying on God to tame our tongues and train our minds, and it exposes the hidden traps that keep Christians from living lives of happiness, empowering readers with the ultimate transformation of their hearts.

You look good ... for your age ... These statements can be offensive to some people, but it is complicated to understand exactly why. It is often difficult to recognize the veiled racism, sexism, ableism, lookism, ageism, and other -isms that hide in our everyday language. Book China s Naval Power

Download or read book China s Naval Power written by Dr Yves-Heng Lim and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2014-02-28 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid modernization of the Chinese Navy is a well-documented reality of the post-Cold War world. In two decades, the People's Liberation Army Navy has evolved from a backward force composed of obsolete platforms into a reasonably modern fleet whose growth is significantly shaking the naval balance in East Asia. The rationale behind China's contemporary rise at sea remains, however, difficult to grasp and few people have tried to see how the current structure of the international system has shaped Chinese choices. This book makes sense of Chinese priorities in its naval modernization in a 'robust' offensive realist framework. Drawing on Barry Posen's works on sources of military doctrine, it argues that the orientation of Beijing's choices concerning its naval forces can essentially be explained by China's position as a potential regional hegemon. Yves-Heng Lim highlights how a rising state develops naval power to fulfil its security objectives, a theoretical perspective that goes farther than the sole Chinese case.
