Book The Brandt Commission and the Multinationals

Download or read book The Brandt Commission and the Multinationals written by Bo Stråth and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-02-11 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set against the backdrop of dramatic world order transformations across the 1970s and 1980s, this book examines the competing planetary perspectives of the Brandt Commission and the multinationals, arguing that the missed opportunities of these decades created a path for contemporary political and economic crises. At the Global South’s request for a New International Economic Order, the Brandt Commission, chaired by Willy Brandt, was appointed in 1977. The commission, with a goal to formulate arguments on how to close the gap between the North and South, developed a planetary perspective grounded in economic redistribution, ecological considerations, and disarmament. The multinationals, at that time, a new kind of business corporation, repressed Brandt’s vision by seeking freedom from political monitoring. This book discusses the ways that global corporations created facts that changed the world and the preconditions of politics. It moves beyond existing research that considers the competition merely a theoretical clash between Keynesianism and neoliberalism. Featuring a thorough analysis of the decades’ trends and a new interview with Shridath Ramphal, the Commission’s unofficial vice chair, this is a timely volume for students and researchers of international relations, political science, and contemporary history.

Book Global Mindsets

Download or read book Global Mindsets written by John Kuada and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Mindsets seeks to tackle a topic that is relatively new in research and practice, and is considered by many to be critical for firms seeking to conduct global business. It argues that multiple mindsets exist (across and within organizations), that they operate in a global context, and that they are dynamic and undergo change and action. Part of the mindset(s) may depend upon place, situation and context where individuals and organizations operate. The book examines the notion of "mindset" is situational and dynamic, especially in a global setting, why it is important for future scholars and managers and how it could be conceptualized. The book includes conceptual chapters that push the current boundaries of research on the topic and empirical chapters that demonstrate how different organizations in different countries apply mindset perspectives in their management practices. It seeks to help academics, consultants, and researchers understand what has been said and studied about global mindsets in action and gain insights into possible directions and challenges that the field may face in the future.

Book Managing the Contemporary Multinational

Download or read book Managing the Contemporary Multinational written by Ulf Andersson and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managing the Contemporary Multinational explores the role of headquarters in different structures of multinational firms and shows how this role is affected by the complexity of contemporary research. This topical book illustrates that contemporary research has added complexity to the attributes of the multinational, with implications for the role of headquarters. It examines claims that subsidiaries contribute to the overall competitiveness of the corporation, that they are organized in corporate networks spanning country borders, and that they depend upon specific relationships in the external network. It is stressed that headquarters knowledge of the multinational and its business environment is crucial, but also problematic. The eminent contributors question whether headquarters have become more or less important given the complexity of contemporary research, and argue that the answer to this question depends on the theoretical foundation adopted in the multinational. Based on empirical studies, this invaluable book will be a captivating read for students and researchers interested in international business and international management.

Book The Multinational Kingdom in Isaiah

Download or read book The Multinational Kingdom in Isaiah written by Andrew H. Kim and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The kingdom of God functions as a key theme that clarifies the direction of redemptive history. The canonical narrative portrays God’s dealing with humanity on both individual and corporate levels. Throughout the history of the church, many have claimed that national Israel is best read as a type of an eschatological consummation of individuals drawn from all nations. However, does the direction of redemptive history consummate with a redemption of individuals or does it include national entities? Do the promises to national Israel become fulfilled typologically through a singular corporate reality or in a multinational kingdom, which includes national Israel? In The Multinational Kingdom in Isaiah, Andrew H. Kim addresses arguments from those who claim that Isaiah serves as a turning point in which national distinctions are erased in the eschatological kingdom. Kim argues that Isaiah envisions a multinational kingdom comprised of Israelites and gentiles with national and territorial distinctions.
