Book Internal Flow

Download or read book Internal Flow written by E. M. Greitzer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-26 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the analysis and behaviour of internal flows encountered in propulsion systems, fluid machinery (compressors, turbines and pumps) and ducts (diffusers, nozzles and combustion chambers). The focus is on phenomena that are important in setting the performance of a broad range of fluid devices. The authors show that even for complex processes one can learn a great deal about the behaviour of such devices from a clear understanding and rigorous use of basic principles. Throughout the book they illustrate theoretical principles by reference to technological applications. The strong emphasis on fundamentals, however, means that the ideas presented can be applied beyond internal flow to other types of fluid motion. The book equips students and practising engineers with a range of new analytical tools. These tools offer enhanced interpretation and application of both experimental measurements and the computational procedures that characterize modern fluids engineering.

Book An Investigation of the Mixing of Linear and Swirling Flows

Download or read book An Investigation of the Mixing of Linear and Swirling Flows written by and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A research program was conducted to study in detail the importance of various aerodynamic and geometric parameters on the dissipation of a concentrated trailed vortex in which the dissipation is greatly enhanced by the continuous injection of a mass of air into its core. The basic results of the research program demonstrated that the efficiency of vortex dissipation would be maximized by designing the injection system so that the vortex was injected at its center and parallel to the axis of the trailed vortex core with a linearly- directed mass of air at sonic speeds. The efficiency of the optimum system was shown to be almost an order of magnitude better than had been demonstrated previously.

Book The Mixing of Swirling Flows

Download or read book The Mixing of Swirling Flows written by Gordon C. Oates and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of an investigation of the effects of swirling the inner stream upon the mixing rate of co-annular flows will be presented. The presentation will consist of three major sections: Model Of An Ideal Mixer With Swirl--The overall investigation was motivated by the desire to lead to understanding of some of the mechanisms existing in real aircraft mixers. To this end, the effects of swirl upon the performance of ideal mixers was determined so that the unavoidable losses due to the presence of non-axial momentum etc. could be determined (in comparison to conventional ideal mixers). EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAM--A large high pressure air storage system has been adapted to provide flow rates of up to a total of ten pounds per second. PRELIMINARY RESULTS--The data is in the process of being reduced and interpreted.

Download or read book Swirling Flows and Flames written by Toufik Boushaki and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Swirl flows are used in a wide range of industrial applications. In non-reacting cases, examples of applications include vortex amplifiers and reactors, heat exchangers, jet pumps, and cyclone separators. In reacting cases, swirlers are widely used in combustion systems, such as gas turbines, industrial furnaces, boilers, gasoline and diesel engines, and many other practical heating devices. Effects of using swirl on flow and combustion are significant and varied, and concern, for example, aerodynamics, mixing, flame stability, intensity of combustion, and pollutant emissions. The purpose of this book is to present recent research efforts to understand and characterize swirling flows of different types and in different applications. These include gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels in order to enhance combustion systems and their energy efficiency. Swirl flows are very complex and the studies proposed in this project are based on different means, including theoretical calculations, numerical modeling, and experimental measurements.

Book Unsteady Combustor Physics

Download or read book Unsteady Combustor Physics written by Tim C. Lieuwen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-08-27 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing clean, sustainable energy systems is a pre-eminent issue of our time. Most projections indicate that combustion-based energy conversion systems will continue to be the predominant approach for the majority of our energy usage. Unsteady combustor issues present the key challenge associated with the development of clean, high-efficiency combustion systems such as those used for power generation, heating or propulsion applications. This comprehensive study is unique, treating the subject in a systematic manner. Although this book focuses on unsteady combusting flows, it places particular emphasis on the system dynamics that occur at the intersection of the combustion, fluid mechanics and acoustic disciplines. Individuals with a background in fluid mechanics and combustion will find this book to be an incomparable study that synthesises these fields into a coherent understanding of the intrinsically unsteady processes in combustors.

Book Flow Mixing and Heat Transfer in Furnaces

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HMT: The Science & Application of Heat and Mass Transfer: Reports, Reviews & Computer Programs, Volume 2: Flow, Mixing and Heat Transfer in Furnaces is a collection of papers from the First Conference on Mechanical Power Engineering. The title presents experimental and theoretical research in the field of flow, mixing, and heat transfer in furnaces. The experimental papers in the selection include the effect of the exit section geometry and furnace length on mixing in a cold model industrial furnace, as well as the effect of some parameters on the characteristics of heat liberated along a cylindrical reversed flow furnace. The theoretical papers tackle topics such as study of mixing of two coaxial swirling jets in a cold model furnace and numerical computations of turbulent swirling flames in axisymmetric combustors. The book will be of great use to students, researchers, and practitioners of mechanical engineering.

Book Turbulence Structure of Mixing Swirling Flows

Download or read book Turbulence Structure of Mixing Swirling Flows written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is an experimental investigation of a swirling inner flow which develops along a constant-diameter centerbody in the presence of an unconfined, axially-directed outer flow. The data which have been acquired include local mean velocity and static pressure profiles at six streamwise locations for different prescribed mass flow rate ratios. Local wall shear stress measurements were made at these six streamwise locations in order to investigate local law-of-the-wall behavior in the vicinity of the centerbody. Reynolds stress measurements were also made in order to quantify the local turbulence structure. This report describes the scope of these measurements and the physical characteristics of the flow which have been deduced from the data. The implications of the results from a turbulence modeling point of view is also discussed. (kr).

Book Mixing of Swirling Flows and Behavior of Wet Flows

Download or read book Mixing of Swirling Flows and Behavior of Wet Flows written by G. C. Oates and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes progress into research on the interaction of droplets with shock waves, the mixing of co-axial jets in the near region, the influence of nearby solid boundaries on multihole probes, and the behavior of shock trains in ramjet inlets. The study of the mixing of coaxial jets has been completed with the submission of a PhD dissertation. Appropriate software for laser velocimetry data reduction has been prepared for use with the droplet-shock wave study, and a computer program for the description of droplet shock wave interaction has been generated. Preliminary measurements of solid boundary influence on five hole probe readings have been taken, and optical data for shock trains in ramjet inlets have been obtained from both a water analogy rig and a supersonic wind tunnel.
