Book The Difficult Triangle

Download or read book The Difficult Triangle written by H. Rodrigo Jauberth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-11 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although relations with Central America dominated U.S. foreign policy with its southern neighbors during the 1980s, relations with Mexico will likely shape U.S. foreign policy in the next decade. This book examines the troubled nature of the triangular link between Mexico, Central America, and the United States in order to understand the implications of U.S. policy for peace and development in the Western Hemisphere. The book begins with an analysis of Mexico's foreign policy and its historical role in seeking diplomatic solutions to volatile situations in Central America. The authors then assess the probable impact on the region of increased economic integration, particularly the U.S.-Mexico free trade agreement, especially important in light of Mexico's enormous debt and immigration issues. Special attention is also given to diplomatic aspects of the relationship, with a focus on the process of negotiations to resolve conflicts in Central America. A lengthy epilogue offers critical commentary on key issues discussed in the text by such prominent figures as Jesse Jackson, Carlos Vilas, David Ibarra, and Guadalupe Gonzales.

The Central American nations and those of the Caribbean (including Guyana, Surinam and French Guiana on the mainland) share many historical processes as well as experiencing similar development problems today. These include European colonialism, structural adjustment, small size, reliance on primary production, influence of the United States and moves towards democratisation. Book The Geography of Central America and Mexico

Download or read book The Geography of Central America and Mexico written by Thomas A. Rumney and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Connecting the massive landscapes of North and South America are Mexico and Central America. An area of fascination and study for geographers and scholars from around the world, for millennia these lands and people have played important roles in the discoveries and distributions of civilizations, resources, and nations. These regions have stimulated a large amount of research and publications across the sub-disciplines of geography. The Geography of Central America and Mexico: A Scholarly Guide and Bibliography by Thomas A. Rumney collects, organizes, and presents as many of these publications as possible to encourage efforts in the teaching, study, and continuing scholarship of the geography of this area, which includes Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Beginning with the region as a whole, each chapter that follows--one per nation--is divided by the specific sub-disciplines of geography: cultural, social, economic, historical, physical and environmental, political, and urban. Each section is further divided by document type: atlases, books, book chapters, articles from scholarly journals, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations. Although the majority of entries recorded focus on English-language works, selected entries written in Spanish, as well as French, German, and other languages, are included (with entries' titles translated into English and noted accordingly).
