Book The Method of Enzyme Action Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Method of Enzyme Action A theoretical treatment of a scientific subject can lead only to a working hypothesis, and it is from this point of view that the theory of the mode of action of enzymes given at the end of this book should be judged. Owing to the circumstances in which the following pages were written, I have had neither the time nor the opportunity to verify the hypothesis by experiment. It is my hope, however, that the conception of enzyme action given will prove sufficiently interesting to induce some worker to test it and either prove or disprove it. From either result something of value will, I hope, be learnt. The spinning of hypotheses without producing new facts to render them more plausible may seem a useless expenditure of energy, but it seems to me that if the subject has been carefully reviewed before the hypothesis is evolved in its final form - as I have tried to do in this book - at least two advantages arc gained. In the first place the facts have been looked at from a new angle, and this may result in the observation of new relationships; and in the second place a working hypothesis may be reached, and this is the necessary prelude of fruitful experimental work. Book Contemporary Enzyme Kinetics and Mechanism

Download or read book Contemporary Enzyme Kinetics and Mechanism written by Daniel L. Purich and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected Methods in Enzymology: Contemporary Enzyme Kinetics and Mechanism provides an introduction to enzyme kinetics and mechanism at an intermediate level. This book covers a variety of topics, including temperature effects in enzyme kinetics, cryoenzymology, substrate inhibition, enol intermediates enzymology, and heavy-atom isotope effects. Organized into 19 chapters, this book begins with an overview of derivation of rate equations as an integral part of the effective usage of kinetics as a tool. This text then examines the practical aspects of initial rate enzyme assay. Other chapters consider the basic procedures used in making decisions concerning kinetic mechanisms from initial-rate data. This book discusses as well the various aspects of both the theoretical background and the applications. The final chapter deals with the importance of achieving proficiency in formulating quantitative relationships describing enzyme behavior. This book is a valuable resource for students and research workers. Enzymologists and chemists will also find this book useful.

Book Methods to Determine Enzymatic Activity

Download or read book Methods to Determine Enzymatic Activity written by Alane Beatriz Vermelho and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods to Determine Enzymatic Activity is a textbook about industrial enzymes. The book features definitions, classifications and applications of selected enzymes important in industry and in biotechnological processes. Analytical methods for these enzymes are also included in the text. The main objective of this textbook is to provide readers information focused on the current analysis methods of enzymatic activity at qualitative and quantitative levels. Each chapter is about one specific enzyme and contains information about its substrate and some biochemical properties. The methodologies are presented as an experimental protocol allowing interested readers to reproduce the experimental methods detailed within the textbook. These protocols contain the principle of the technique, materials, methods, and all steps necessary for the determination of enzyme activity and interpretation of results. Each methodology is illustrated with photos and schemes for a better and clear understanding. This book, therefore, uniquely brings modern analysis techniques of industrial enzymes in a single easy to understand volume. This textbook is suitable for undergraduate enzymology courses and advanced industrial biotechnology and microbiology courses.
