Book The Media Matrix

Download or read book The Media Matrix written by Frank D. Miele and published by Heartland Diary USA. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays by journalist Frank Miele in this collection span from 2005 to 2018. "The Media Matrix" is Volume 4 of the Heartland Diary USA series. Most of these essays originally appeared in the Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell, Montana, where Miele worked for 34 years, including 18 years as managing editor. Miele gained a wide following for his weekly conservative "Editor's 2 Cents" commentaries, which are now collected in the Heartland Diary series. The author, who is now a columnist for Real Clear Politics, relies on his work as a community journalist to filter the Fake News promoted by the Mainstream Media to get to the real story. You can read about biased reporting on a variety of topics such as "natural born citizenship," "the war on terrorism," "border security," and "Russian collusion." Miele finds common ground with Donald Trump and declares himself to be a sworn enemy of Fake News. The foreword was written by Brant Horn who was circulation director at the Daily Inter Lake for most of the years when Miele was at the helm. He describes the challenges Miele met in his capacity as managing editor and lauds him for not giving up on his responsibility to present a fair and balanced news report even while writing conservative commentary under his own name for many years. The afterword by economist Richard L. Spencer is the introduction to the entire Heartland Diary USA series. Spencer commends Miele as "America's diarist" and believes that Miele's columns represent a vital resource for future historians.

Book The Media Matrix of Early Jewish and Christian Narrative

Download or read book The Media Matrix of Early Jewish and Christian Narrative written by Nicholas Elder and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-14 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generically, theologically, and concerning content, Mark and Joseph and Aseneth are quite different. The former is a product of the nascent Jesus movement and influenced by the Greco-Roman Bioi (“Lives”). It details the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of a wandering Galilean. The latter is a Hellenistic Jewish narrative influenced by Greek romances and Jewish novellas. It expands the laconic account of Joseph's marriage to Aseneth in Genesis 41 into a full-fledged love and adventure story. Despite these differences, Elder finds remarkable similarities that the texts share. Elder uses both texts to examine media and modes of composition in antiquity, arguing that they were both composed via dictation from their antecedent oral traditions. Elder's volume offers a fresh approach to the composition of both Joseph and Aseneth and Mark as well as to many of their respective interpretive debates.

Book Television Studies After TV

Download or read book Television Studies After TV written by Graeme Turner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-03-27 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Television studies must now address a complex environment where change has been vigorous but uneven, and where local and national conditions vary significantly. Globalizing media industries, deregulatory policy regimes, the multiplication, convergence and trade in media formats, the emergence of new content production industries outside the US/UK umbrella, and the fragmentation of media audiences are all changing the nature of television today: its content, its industrial structure and how it is consumed. Television Studies after TV leads the way in developing new ways of understanding television in the post-broadcast era. With contributions from leading international scholars, it considers the full range of convergent media now implicated in understanding television, and also focuses on large non-Anglophone markets – such as Asia and Latin America — in order to accurately reflect the wide variety of structures, forms and content which now organise television around the world.

Book Digital Matters

Download or read book Digital Matters written by Jan Harris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-05-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing the complex interaction between the material and immaterial aspects of new digital technologies, this book draws upon a mix of theoretical approaches (including sociology, media theory, cultural studies and technological philosophy), to suggest that the ‘Matrix’ of science fiction and Hollywood is simply an extreme example of how contemporary technological society enframes and conditions its citizens. Arranged in two parts, the book covers: theorizing the Im/Material Matrix living in the Digital Matrix. Providing a novel perspective on on-going digital developments by using both the work of current thinkers and that of past theorists not normally associated with digital issues, it gives a fresh insight into the roots and causes of the social matrix behind the digital one of popular imagination. The authors highlight the way we should be concerned by the power of the digital to undermine physical reality, but also explore the potential the digital has for alternative, empowering social uses. The book’s central point is to impress upon the reader that the digital does indeed matter. It includes a pessimistic interpretation of technological change, and adds a substantial historical perspective to the often excessively topical focus of much existing cyberstudies literature making it an important volume for students and researchers in this field.

Download or read book The Media Matrix written by Scott Eastham and published by Lanham : University Press of America. This book was released on 1990 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From questions of propaganda and media ethics to the controverted arena of cross-cultural communications, students and scholars invariably find themselves already 'surrounded' by the media of communication they are attempting to understand. Here is an approach which takes its stand on 'the inside' of such symbolic environments, and finds a creative alternative to the conditions and conditioning they tend to impose. This study provides a thorough grounding for 'the art' of media interpretation, and demonstrates the fruitfulness of an interdisciplinary approach to issues arising from the interaction of media and culture, technology and human values. The book also underscores the pertinence of such thinkers as Lewis Mumford, H. Marshall McLuhan, Barrington Nevitt, Ezra Pound, Martin Heidegger, R. Buckminster Fuller, Raimundo Panikkar, Norman O. Brown and Gregory Bateson to media theory.

Download or read book Gridmatrix written by Sabine Eckmann and published by Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: [Grid Matrix] is the first publication in the Screen Arts and New Media Aesthetics series, a series of exhibitions and publications that explore the interpenetration of different screens of representation in contemporary culture--from the canvas to the computer terminal, the cinema to the television set, the video monitor to the museum wall, the book page to the cell phone display. This series probes the aesthetic uses and historical dimensions of contemporary screen culture and sheds light on how different artists make use of newer media and technologies, how the rise of the digital impacts dominant codes of art, culture, and experience, and how today's screens open alternate windows on the past, present, and future. [Grid Matrix] traces two different but closely related modes oforganizing the visible world and its aesthetic representations. In analog cultures, the notion of the grid empowers the production of images that claim universal authority. Most often static in nature, grid-like structures, spaces, and images approach the viewer as immediately recognizable and hence devoid of unwanted surprises. Digitally-based matrices, by way of contrast, set the modernist grid into motion. They have the ability to catalyze visual expressions and experiences that, in spite of their algorithmic foundations, aim at open-ended and often unpredictable transformation. Grid and matrix, as presented in this exhibition, form a central dialectic of modernist and postmodernist culture. Featuring two essays, one by each of the exhibition curators, the publication's aim is not to tell a story of linear historical progress, but to explore continuities and ruptures between the analog and the digital, between the organizational principles of older and newer media. [Grid Matrix] includes artwork by Theo van Doesburg, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Piet Mondrian, Agnes Martin, Andy Warhol, John F. Simon, Jr., Andreas Gursky, Albert Oehlen, Jeffrey Shaw, and Julius Popp, among others. Essays by co-curators Sabine Eckmann, Ph.D., director and chief curator at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, and Lutz Koepnick, Ph.D., professor of German, Film, and Media Studies at Washington University in St. Louis.
