Book Mass Transfer Study of Bubbling in Relation to Distillation and Gas Absorption

Download or read book Mass Transfer Study of Bubbling in Relation to Distillation and Gas Absorption written by Ju-chin Chu and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In conjunction with the work on interfacial area and contact time, an investigation was carried out to study the factors affecting mass transfer coefficients in vapor-liquid contacting. Measurements of point efficiency on the distillation of a systems of acetone and water determined both the liquid and vapor mass transfer coefficients under various operating conditions. The study was conducted on a 4" diameter column using the same type of single-slotted 1.5" diameter cap employed in the previous work. The range of physical properties and operating variables included: vapor rate: G=5000 to 25,000 lbs./sq.ft.(hr.); liquid rate: L=500 to 3,600 lbs./sq.ft.(hr.) ; vapor Reynolds number: 6400 to 24,100; liquid Reynolds number: 35 to 800 ; vapor Schmidt number: 0.27 to 0.42; liquid Schmidt number: 50 to 330. Both vapor and liquid mass transfer coefficients were correlated as "jD" factors, with their respective Reynolds numbers. The equations developed were: [....]. In combination with the results on interfacial area and contact time, a generalized correlation for point efficiency data reported in the literature (30,53) and found it to be in excellent agreement. Based upon analysis of this and other studies reported in the literature (21,22) an explanation of the mechanisms involved in bubble plate mass transfer operations was presented. Since the efficiencies measured in this study were uniformly high, even in the absence of a froth zone, it was indicated that a substantial portion of the mass transfer occurring on a bubble cap plate takes place in the bubble formation region.

Download or read book Particles Bubbles Drops written by Efstathios Michaelides and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of multiphase flows has grown by leaps and bounds in the last thirty years and is now regarded as a major discipline. Engineering applications, products and processes with particles, bubbles and drops have consistently grown in number and importance. An increasing number of conferences, scientific fora and archived journals are dedicated to the dissemination of information on flow, heat and mass transfer of fluids with particles, bubbles and drops. Numerical computations and "thought experiments" have supplemented most physical experiments and a great deal of the product design and testing processes. The literature on computational fluid dynamics with particles, bubbles and drops has grown at an exponential rate, giving rise to new results, theories and better understanding of the transport processes with particles, bubbles and drops. This book captures and summarizes all these advances in a unified, succinct and pedagogical way. Contents: Fundamental Equations and Characteristics of Particles, Bubbles and Drops; Low Reynolds Number Flows; High Reynolds Number Flows; Non-Spherical Particles, Bubbles and Drops; Effects of Rotation, Shear and Boundaries; Effects of Turbulence; Electro-Kinetic, Thermo-Kinetic and Porosity Effects; Effects of Higher Concentration and Collisions; Molecular and Statistical Modeling; Numerical Methods-CFD. Key Features Summarizes the recent important results in the theory of transport processes of fluids with particles, bubbles and drops Presents the results in a unified and succinct way Contains more than 600 references where an interested reader may find details of the results Makes connections from all theories and results to physical and engineering applications Readership: Researchers, practicing engineers and physicists that deal with any aspects of Multiphase Flows. It will also be of interest to academics and researchers in the general fields of mechanical and chemical engineering.

Book Transport Phenomena in Capillary Porous Structures and Heat Pipes

Download or read book Transport Phenomena in Capillary Porous Structures and Heat Pipes written by Henry Smirnov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-phase nano- and micro-thermal control device research is now proving relevant to a growing range of modern applications, including those in cryogenics, thermal engineering, MEMS, and aerospace engineering. Until now, researchers have lacked a definitive resource that provides a complete review of micro- and nano-scale evaporative heat and mass transfer in capillaries-porous structures. Transport Phenomena in Capillary-Porous Structures and Heat Pipes covers the latest experiemental research efforts in two-phase thermal control technology research and development. The book covers vaporization heat transfer and hydrodynamic processes occurring in capillary channels and porous structures--paying particular attention to the physical mechanisms of these phenomena. Extensive experimental research activities on unique film and photo materials of boiling inside slits, capillaries, and capillary-porous structures are reviewed. By providing a complete record of research in the field, this volume gives researchers, engineers, and practitioners working on vaporization heat transfer and hydrodynamic processes the findings needed to avoid unnecessary experimental efforts, and will help further the development of this dynamic area of research.

Book Developments in High Temperature Corrosion and Protection of Materials

Download or read book Developments in High Temperature Corrosion and Protection of Materials written by W Gao and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-04-09 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High temperature corrosion is a phenomenon that occurs in components that operate at very high temperatures, such as gas turbines, jet engines and industrial plants. Engineers are constantly striving to understand and prevent this type of corrosion. This book examines the latest developments in the understanding of high temperature corrosion processes and protective oxide scales and coatings.Part one looks at high temperature corrosion. Chapters cover diffusion and solid state reactions, external and internal oxidation of alloys, metal dusting corrosion, tribological degradation, hot corrosion, and oxide scales on hot-rolled steel strips. Modern techniques for analysing high temperature oxidation and corrosion are also discussed. Part two discusses methods of protection using ceramics, composites, protective oxide scales and coatings. Chapters focus on layered ternary ceramics, alumina scales, Ti-Al intermetallic compounds, metal matrix composites, chemical vapour deposited silicon carbide, nanocrystalline coatings and thermal barrier coatings. Part three provides case studies illustrating some of the challenges of high temperature corrosion to industry and how they can be overcome. Case studies include the petrochemical industry, modern incinerators and oxidation processing of electronic materials. This book is a valuable reference tool for engineers who develop heat resistant materials, mechanical engineers who design and maintain high temperature equipment and plant, and research scientists and students who study high temperature corrosion and protection of materials. - Describes the latest developments in understanding high temperature corrosion - Presents the latest research by the leading innovators from around the globe - Case studies are provided to illustrate key points
