Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mathematical Analysis of Electrical and Optical Wave-Motion on the Basis of Maxwell's Equations Larmor who read the manuscript before it was revised and made some helpful suggestions, to Prof. Ames who read the greater portion of the manuscript, to Prof. Morley and Mr Hasse who helped me with their advice and vigilance in reading the proof sheets, and to the officers and staff of the University Press for their careful work and constant consideration shown in matters connected with the printing. For the correctness of the new formulae and examples I alone am responsible; if any errors are discovered I shall be grateful if my readers will inform me. Book Maxwell s Equations in Periodic Structures

Download or read book Maxwell s Equations in Periodic Structures written by Gang Bao and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-22 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses recent developments in mathematical analysis and computational methods for solving direct and inverse problems for Maxwell’s equations in periodic structures. The fundamental importance of the fields is clear, since they are related to technology with significant applications in optics and electromagnetics. The book provides both introductory materials and in-depth discussion to the areas in diffractive optics that offer rich and challenging mathematical problems. It is also intended to convey up-to-date results to students and researchers in applied and computational mathematics, and engineering disciplines as well.

Download or read book Maxwell s Equations written by Paul G. Huray and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-11-04 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative view of Maxwell's Equations that takes theory to practice Maxwell's Equations is a practical guide to one of the most remarkable sets of equations ever devised. Professor Paul Huray presents techniques that show the reader how to obtain analytic solutions for Maxwell's equations for ideal materials and boundary conditions. These solutions are then used as a benchmark for solving real-world problems. Coverage includes: An historical overview of electromagnetic concepts before Maxwell and how we define fundamental units and universal constants today A review of vector analysis and vector operations of scalar, vector, and tensor products Electrostatic fields and the interaction of those fields with dielectric materials and good conductors A method for solving electrostatic problems through the use of Poisson's and Laplace's equations and Green's function Electrical resistance and power dissipation; superconductivity from an experimental perspective; and the equation of continuity An introduction to magnetism from the experimental inverse square of the Biot-Savart law so that Maxwell's magnetic flux equations can be deduced Maxwell's Equations serves as an ideal textbook for undergraduate students in junior/senior electromagnetics courses and graduate students, as well as a resource for electrical engineers.

Book Maxwell s Equations

Download or read book Maxwell s Equations written by Jürgen Donnevert and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-14 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the derivation and solution of Maxwell’s equations. The stations along the way include the laws of potential and current density distribution, as well as the laws of electrostatics and stationary magnetic fields. The book is chiefly intended for students of electrical engineering, information technology, and physics; the goal is to prepare them for courses on Electromagnetic Field Theory (EFT). Building on what they have learned in advanced physics and mathematics courses at secondary school or technical college, it is intended to accompany university-level EFT courses. Particular importance is attached to detailed explanations in text form, combined with a wealth of illustrations. All formulas are derived step by step.

Book The Mathematical Theory of Electricity and Magnetism Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Mathematical Theory of Electricity and Magnetism Classic Reprint written by James Hopwood Jeans and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-17 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mathematical Theory of Electricity and Magnetism The range is very approximately that of Maxwell's original Treatise, but the present book is in many respects more elementary than that of Maxwell. Maxwell's Treatise was written for the fully-equipped mathematician: the present book is written more especially for the student, and for the physicist of limited mathematical attainments. The questions of mathematical analysis which are treated in the text have been inserted in the places where they are first needed for the development of the physical theory, in the belief that, in many cases, the mathematical and physical theories illuminate one another by being studied simultaneously. For example, brief sketches of the theories of spherical, zonal and ellipsoidal harmonics are given in the chapter on Special Problems in Electrostatics, interwoven with the study of harmonic potentials and electrical applications: Stokes' Theorem is similarly given in connection with the magnetic vector-potential, and so on. One result of this arrangement is to destroy, at least in appearance, the balance of the amounts of space allotted to the different parts of the subject. For instance, more than half the book appears to be devoted to Electrostatics, but this space will, perhaps, not seem excessive when it is noticed how many of the pages in the Electrostatic part of the book are devoted to non-electrical subjects in applied mathematics (potential-theory, theory of stress, or in pure mathematics (green's Theorem, harmonic analysis, complex variable, Fourier's series, conjugate functions, curvilinear coordinates.
