Book Terribly Awesome Photobooks

Download or read book Terribly Awesome Photobooks written by Paul Kooiker and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Erik Kessels and Thomas Sauvin Talk Soon

Download or read book Erik Kessels and Thomas Sauvin Talk Soon written by Erik Kessels and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wordless, quarantined dialogue in flipbook form Every day, throughout that tumultuous spring of 2020, Dutch artist Erik Kessels (born 1966) and French artist Thomas Sauvin (born 1983) sent one another idiosyncratic, uncaptioned photographs, catalyzing an organic, free-associative exchange of some 120 archival images. Atelier Éditions' author Kingston Trinder then composed an equally free-associative, altogether-whimsical narrative with which to further entwine the duo's eclectic photographs. These two archives of vernacular photography, one from the East, the other from the West, achieve a dialogue through the recurrence of photographic practices, aesthetics and subjects. Talk Soon, a tearaway postcard book with a spiral binding, allows readers to endlessly juxtapose the delightful photographs selected by the two quarantined artists.

Book Failed It

Download or read book Failed It written by and published by Phaidon Press. This book was released on 2016-05-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fun and fabulous take on the art of making mistakes. Erik Kessels celebrates imperfection and failure and shows why they are an essential part of the creative process. Failed it! celebrates the power of mistakes and shows how they can enrich the creative process. This is part photobook and part guide to loosening up and making mistakes to take the fear out of failure and encourage experimentation. It showcases the best and most hilarious examples of imperfection and failure across a broad range of creative forms, including art, design, photography, architecture and product design, to inspire and encourage creatives to embrace and celebrate their mistakes. We live in an era when everyone is striving for perfection and we have become afraid of failure, which limits our potential. Mistakes help us find new ways of thinking and innovative solutions, and failures can change our perceptions and open up new ways of looking things. This book transforms mistakes from something to be embarrassed about into a cause for celebration. It includes over 150 visual examples drawn from Kessels personal collection of artworks and found photographs, along with tips, quotes, anecdotes and wisdom for celebrating with failure. To quote Kessels: 'the ubiquity of Apple + Z, means that we can literally undo any mistake before it has had time to breathe, be considered and — perhaps — evolve into something else: a fascinating, strange, provocative or even original piece of work. This book asks readers to embrace their fuck-ups, learn from them and celebrate their tawdry glory'.

Book Incredibly Small Photobooks

Download or read book Incredibly Small Photobooks written by Paul Kooiker and published by . This book was released on 2014-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tiré du site Internet http://www.artpapereditions.org: "For several years, Paul Kooiker and Erik Kessels have organized evenings for friends in which they share the strangest photo books in their collections. The books shown are rarely available in regular shops, but are picked up in thrift stores and from antiquaries. The group's fascination for these pictorial non-fiction books comes from the need to find images that exist on the fringe of regular commercial photo books. It's only in this area that it's possible to find images with an uncontrived quality. This constant tension makes the books interesting. It's also worth noting that these tomes all fall within certain categories : the medical, instructional, scientific, sex, humour or propaganda. Paul Kooiker and Erik Kessels have made a selection of their finest books from within this questionable new genre. Incredibly small photobooks is the second volume (after Terribly awesome photobooks) showing this amazing collection."

Book excerpt: We live in the midst of a photographic renaissance where we have become accustomed to consuming images with the same voracity and delight with those who devour junk food. To withstand the deluge that floods our retinas day after day, we consume them without digesting them properly or we just swallow them. Rarely do we pause to look more closely; To read, appreciate or question an image. Erik Kessels' multivolume In Almost Every Picture has long been a coveted and revered classic of vernacular photography. In Erik Kessels: Image Tsunami the Dutch art director has turned his attention to the abundance of images available for finding on the Internet, shared in their millions on websites like Flickr. In a world where everyone produces and edits photography, where, as Kessels says, "the average kid today gets photographed more than a celebrity of 50 years ago," what does a single image mean, and what is its status in the overwhelming flood of images? In Kessels' words: "Image Tsunami holds an enormous collection of images that I live with, that I remix and edit. It's a representation of the overload of imagery that is in my head. My hope is that the book will inspire others to make their own remixes of these images."

Book Photography After Capitalism

Download or read book Photography After Capitalism written by Ben Burbridge and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A polemical analysis of the politics and economics of today's vernacular photographic cultures. In Photography After Capitalism, Benedict Burbridge makes the case for a radically expanded conception of photography, encompassing the types of labor too often obscured by black-boxed technologies, slick platform interfaces, and the compulsion to display lives to others. His lively and polemical analysis of today's vernacular photographic cultures shines new light on the hidden work of smartphone assembly teams, digital content moderators, Street View car drivers, Google “Scan-Ops,”low-paid gallery interns, homeless participant photographers, and the photo-sharing masses. Bringing together cultural criticism, social history, and political philosophy, Burbridge examines how representations of our photographic lives—in advertising, journalism, scholarship and, particularly, contemporary art—shape a sense of what photography is and the social relations that comprise it. More precisely, he focuses on how different critical and creative strategies—from the appropriation of social media imagery to performative traversals of the network, from documentaries about secretive manual labor to science fiction fantasies of future sabotage—affect our understanding of photography's interactions with political and economic systems. Drawing insight and inspiration from recent analyses of digital labour, community economies and post-capitalism, Burbridge harnesses the ubiquity of photography to cognitively map contemporary capitalism in search of its weak spots and levers, sites of resistance, and opportunities to build better worlds.

This version of 'Ein Volk ehrt seiner Führer' was purchased at an online auction. Coins were used to censor the images.
