Download or read book Created and Creating written by William Edgar and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gospel of Jesus Christ is always situated within a particular cultural context: but how should Christians approach the complex relationship between their faith and the surrounding culture? Should we simply retreat from culture? Should we embrace our cultural practices and mindset? How important is it for us to be engaged with our culture and mindset? How might we do that with discernment and faithfulness? William Edgar offers a biblical theology in the light of our contemporary culture that contends that Christians should -- and indeed, must -- engage with the surrounding culture. By exploring what Scripture has to say about the role of culture and gleaning insights from a variety of theologians -- including Abraham Kuyper, T. S. Eliot, H. Richard Niebuhr and C. S. Lewis -- Edgar contends that cultural engagement is a fundamental aspect of human existence. He does not shy away from those passages that emphasize the distinction between Christians and the world. Yet he finds, shining through the biblical witness, evidence that supports a robust defence of the cultural mandate to 'be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it' (Genesis 1:28). With clarity and wisdom, Edgar argues that we are most faithful to our calling as God's creatures when we participate in creating culture. Introduction Part 1: Parameters of culture Part 2: Challenges from Scripture Part 3: The cultural mandate Epilogue

Download or read book What Is the Mission of the Church written by Kevin DeYoung and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2011-09-08 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social justice and mission are hot topics today: there's a wonderful resurgence of motivated Christians passionate about spreading the gospel and caring for the needs of others. But in our zeal to get sharing and serving, many are unclear on gospel and mission. Yes, we are called to spend ourselves for the sake of others, but what is the church's unique priority as it engages the world? DeYoung and Gilbert write to help Christians "articulate and live out their views on the mission of the church in ways that are theologically faithful, exegetically careful, and personally sustainable." Looking at the Bible's teaching on evangelism, social justice, and shalom, they explore the what, why, and how of the church's mission. From defining "mission", to examining key passages on social justice and their application, to setting our efforts in the context of God's rule, DeYoung and Gilbert bring a wise, studied perspective to the missional conversation. Readers in all spheres of ministry will grow in their understanding of the mission of the church and gain a renewed sense of urgency for Jesus' call to preach the Word and make disciples.

Download or read book The Mandate of God s Messiah Christ written by Edwin Martin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-06-24 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a love story. It is about the coming of God's Messiah-Christ by fleet of UFO's to redeem our failing planet from water and air pollution, unbalanced power, war and violence, disease, overpopulation, hunger, and homelessness. It tells from God itself how Christ was conceived and born into immaculate perfection by Mary and Joseph obeying God in diet and rules purging themselves free from all disease all under God's direction. God then directed them to have sexual intercourse thereby conceiving it's and their baby immaculately clean and in perfect health without any sexually transmitted hereditary diseases. Christ used this diet and rules to heal people from sickness all his life. He did not ever do any miracles the Bible falsely claims because God does not ever violate it's own laws of physics. God sends it's Messsiah-Christ to stop a nuclear war in progress that starts in the mid east due to a breakdown of peace talks. Christ stops the war and all the nations on Earth surrenders to The Messiah-Christ and he establishes God's food diet and rules of life on this planet so it's love and peace can prevail in equality, liberty, and justice for all the people of the world. God will establish some new light from our sun that no one can survive without it's diet and rules as it governs our planet without military and police forces as we have now. It is a free choice for us to do it or not to do it but if this planet chooses not to obey God it will destroy us by asteroid out of mercy rather than letting us die the horrible death of a failing planetGod does say in the book that it will not let anyone leave this planet on rockets to establish colonies elsewhere in it's universe because it would be a death trap. This book is controversial but it is a must read for everyone on this planet.
Download or read book Mission in the Old Testament written by Walter C. Jr. Kaiser and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter Kaiser questions the notion that the New Testament represents a deviation from God's supposed intention to save only the Israelites. He argues that--contrary to popular opinion--the older Testament does not reinforce an exclusive redemptive plan. Instead, it emphasizes a common human condition and God's original and continuing concern for all humanity. Kaiser shows that the Israelites' mission was always to actively spread to gentiles the Good News of the promised Messiah. This new edition adds two new chapters, freshens material throughout, expands the bibliography, and includes study questions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third volume of Frame's Theology of Lordship series, this book focuses on biblical ethics. In an age of ethical relativism and suspicion of authority, how can we know what is good, virtuous, or just? Frame surveys non-Christian ethical traditions before setting forth a solidly Christian ethical method. By clarifying biblical norms, life situations, and personal dimensions, he presents a model for decision making that honors God in all aspects of life. Discussions range from natural law and conflict of duties to detailed explorations of the Ten Commandments in connection with questions surrounding worship, the Sabbath, church and state, respect for life and truth, sexuality, and the relation of Christ to culture.
