Download or read book The Lunar Orbiter Meteoroid Experiments written by Gary W. Grew and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meteoroid experiments by five Lunar Orbiters have provided a direct measurement in the near-lunar environment of the rate of meteoroid penetration of 0.025-mm-thick beryllium-copper. Each experiment used 20 pressurized-cell detectors having a total effective exposed area of 0.186 m2. The spacecraft carrying the cells were in both equatorial and polar orbits; altituded ranged between 30 and 6200 km. Data collected continuously for 17 months indicate that the rate of penetration in the lunar environment is approximately half the rate in the near-earth environment as measured by detectors of the same type aboard Explorers XVI and XXIII.

Download or read book The Environmental Model of Mars written by K. Szego and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-two papers contained in this volume have been selected from the Proceedings of the 2nd COSPAR Colloquium. The exploration of planet Mars will be the focal point of the planetary missions in the coming years, so the investigation of the surface and the upper layers of the soil is of primary importance. The major space agencies are actively working to understand the environmental and technical requirements of the planned missions and experiments and it is predicted that the planet will be host to both ground based and atmospheric investigations in the near future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mathematical model is used to represent 8pik's 1958 physical theory of meteors in a form convenient for programming the computation of meteoroid photometric mass values. Sub-samples of 333 photographic meteors from McCrosky and Posen's sample are selected with respect to magnitude scaled for minimum velocity. A statistical comparison between the 1958 8pik resulst and the 1933 8pik provisional result, the Harvard-Meteor project basis for mass values, lative flux in absolute units for mass, momentum and energy are given separately for the terrestrial influx and for the lunar and interplanetary vehicle onfluxes.

Download or read book The Moon written by David Schrunk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-27 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extraordinary book details how the Moon could be used as a springboard for Solar System exploration. It presents a realistic plan for placing and servicing telescopes on the Moon, and highlights the use of the Moon as a base for an early warning system from which to combat threats of near-Earth objects. A realistic vision of human development and settlement of the Moon over the next one hundred years is presented, and the author explains how global living standards for the Earth can be enhanced through the use of lunar-based generated solar power. From that beginning, the people of the Earth would evolve into a spacefaring civilisation.

Download or read book How to Find the Apollo Landing Sites written by James L. Chen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for anyone who wants to be able to connect the history of lunar exploration to the Moon visible above. It addresses what Apollo equipment and experiments were left behind and what the Apollo landings sites look like now. Each Apollo mission is examined in detail, with photos that progressively zoom-in to guide the reader in locating the Apollo landing sites. Guided by official NASA photographs from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and the original Apollo missions, the reader can view the Moon with a new appreciation of the accomplishment of landing astronauts on its surface. Countless people have gazed at the Moon in the night sky knowing the successes of the Apollo Program in landing men on the Moon. After the information in this guide, casual and serious observers can actually point out where the Apollo landings occurred as well as knowing why those sites were chosen.
