Book Development Function and Evolution of Teeth

Download or read book Development Function and Evolution of Teeth written by Mark F. Teaford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this field there has been an explosion of information generated by scientific research. One of the beneficiaries of this has been the study of morphology, where new techniques and analyses have led to insights into a wide range of topics. Advances in genetics, histology, microstructure, biomechanics and morphometrics have allowed researchers to view teeth from alternative perspectives. However, there has been little communication between researchers in the different fields of dental research. This book brings together overviews on a wide range of dental topics linking genes, molecules and developmental mechanisms within an evolutionary framework. Written by the leading experts in the field, this book will stimulate co-operative research in fields as diverse as paleontology, molecular biology, developmental biology and functional morphology.

Book Atlas of Interventional EUS

Download or read book Atlas of Interventional EUS written by Anthony Y.B. Teoh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-22 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The atlas offers illustrations of the interventional procedures and several cases of the procedures are included. Within each case, a standardized report is provided including a brief history, imaging findings, a detailed discussion on treatment options, considerations in the EUS intervention, how to perform the procedures and final outcomes. EUS-guided drainages of the bile duct, pancreatic duct, gallbladder and abscesses are summarized. Ablative procedures including celiac plexus, pancreatic cyst and radiofrequency ablations are also covered. Other procedures guided by EUS, including gastroenterostomy, injected therapy, iodine beads insertion and fiducial marker insertion and endovascular interventions are further demonstrated. Gastroenterologists and surgeons can benefit from this atlas on learning strategies and preparing for these procedures.

Book Seed Proteins

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter R. Shewry
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9401144311
  • Pages : 892 pages

Download or read book Seed Proteins written by Peter R. Shewry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seeds provide more than half of the world's intake of dietary protein and energy and thus are of immense economic, cultural and nutritional importance. Proteins can account for up to 40% of the dry weight of various types of seeds, thereby making a large contribution to the nutritional quality and processing properties of seeds. It is, therefore, not surprising that seed proteins were among the first plant components to be systematically studied, some 250 years ago, and have been a major focus of research over the past 100 years. The properties and behaviour of seed proteins pervade modem life in numerous ways. For example, legume and cereal proteins are used'in the production of a wide range of meat-free foods; the process of bread-making is dep~ndent on the physical chemical properties of wheat seed proteins; and in developed, as well as developing, countries, nutritional deficiencies among vegetarian diets are avoided through balancing legume and cereal seeds as sources of dietary proteins. Understanding seed proteins, in order to improve their composition and properties and to increase their concentrations, will thus continue to be an important research objective for the future. The present volume represents the culmination of a long-discussed plan of the editors, to bring together the best international authorities in order to compile a definitive monograph on biological, biochemical, molecular and genetic aspects of seed proteins.
