Book REGIONAL IMBALANCES IN AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT A case study of Uttar Pradesh

Download or read book REGIONAL IMBALANCES IN AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT A case study of Uttar Pradesh written by Dr. Sangeeta Sirohi and published by Ashok Yakkaldevi. This book was released on 2022-05-16 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing interest of academicians in studies regarding regional disparities in development is the outcome of the First and Second World War when many colonies attained political independence and consequently became conscious of the distressing disparity between them and their erstwhile colonial masters. The world is divided into the developed North and developing South, with many shades of disparities at varying regional levels. This dualism could not escape the attention of academicians, decision-makers and administrators. In developing countries, the problem of regional disparity is explosive. So all countries have been attempting to find ways and means to analyze and reduce the regional disparities in development. For this, they could refashion the structure and composition of growth so that it would meet the demands of social justice.

Download or read book Culture and Power in Banaras written by Sandria B. Freitag and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of ten essays on Banaras, one of the largest urban centers in India's eastern Gangetic plain, is united by a common interest in examining everyday activities in order to learn about shared values and motivations, processes of identity formation, and self-conscious constructions of community. Part One examines the performance genres that have drawn audiences from throughout the city. Part Two focuses on the areas of neighborhood, leisure, and work, examining the processes by which urban residents use a sense of identity to organize their activities and bring meaning to their lives. Part Three links these experiences within Banaras to a series of "larger worlds," ranging from language movements and political protests to disease ecology and regional environmental impact. Banaras is a complex world, with differences in religion, caste, class, language, and popular culture; the diversity of these essays embraces those differences. It is a collection that will interest scholars and students of South Asia as well as anyone interested in comparative discussions of popular culture. Book Agricultural Growth Productivity and Regional Change in India

Download or read book Agricultural Growth Productivity and Regional Change in India written by Surendra Singh and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture productivity, growth and regional change in post-colonial India from a spatial perspective are yet to be rigorously examined. In particular, the impacts of economic liberalisation, globalisation and deregulation are not being empirically investigated at a small-area level using advanced statistical and spatial techniques. Understanding the process of regional formation and the rapid transitioning of agricultural landscapes in the Post-Liberalisation phase is pivotal to developing and devising regional economic development strategies. This book employs advanced methods to empirically examine the key characteristics and patterns of regional change in agricultural growth and productivity. It offers insights on changes in agricultural production and practices since the colonial period through to the Post-Liberalisation phase in India. It also incorporates the key public policy debates on the progress of India’s agricultural development with the aim of formulating spatially integrated strategies to reduce rapid rise in the regional convergence and to promote equitable distribution of strategic government investment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on one of the largest megacities in the world—Delhi—this volume is a rare peek into the ineluctable process of hybridization between Indian and ‘other’ cultures within its local architecture and urban planning. The book explores a segment of the history of Delhi from 1912 through 1962, when the contemporary megacity was born, making a comparison between pre- and post-Independence, which is relatively neglected in academia. The author traces architectural and urban elements of the city of Delhi to understand how foreign developmental models were indigenized, the resistance encountered in the process, and finally their adaptation to local architectural contexts. Highlighting the complexities of ‘multiple Delhis’ with different or simultaneous cultural influences as well as with the various ways those influences have been interpreted or contextualized, the author offers a fresh insight into what is happening in Delhi’s globalized built environment nowadays. The book aims to unearth the social relations emerging from the constant flux in style of architecture and its related elements in an urbanized area.
