Book excerpt: As Laura admits adultery to her husband, a merciless war erupts in their matrimony. The husband fails to function as a rational human any longer, as the knowledge of another man destroys his identity, awakening the murderer within him. The demon of jealousy causes obsessive rivalry between the husband and the lover, causing Laura to rediscover truth and values. In the house next door, a Bosnian Muslim experiences same drama globally, as a cruel war, ethnic cleansing, massacre, and systematic mass rape is happening in her homeland, to her very own people. The two women merge into one and undergo transformation of their spiritual and physical identity through tragedy in which male ego destroys and creates the world. Devaluation of values and hypocrisy of civilization cause the women to rebel and search for ultimate truth and justice. This combination of diary prose containing features of an urban love story is wrapped up in a deep, intimate rhythm of the self-enticed prayers of a modern woman, who is in search of ultimate strength and higher meaning of existence with both flowers and thorns she has to find meaning in.

Book Early Tales and Sketches Volume 1

Download or read book Early Tales and Sketches Volume 1 written by Mark Twain and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1979-12-12 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection brings together for the first time more than 360 of Mark Twain's short works written between 1851, the year of his first extant sketch, and 1871, when he renounced his ties with the Buffalo Express and the Galaxy, resolving to "write but little for periodicals hereafter." In October 1871 Clemens and his family moved to Hartford, where they would live until 1891. No longer a journalist, he was about to complete his second full-length book, Roughing It. The literary apprenticeship that he had begun twenty years before in the print shops of Hannibal, and pursued in the newspaper offices of Virginia City, San Francisco, and Buffalo, had at last come to a close. The selections included in these volumes represent a generous sampling from Mark Twain's most imaginative journalism, a few set speeches, a few poems, and hundreds of tales and sketches recovered from more than fifty newspapers and journals, as well as two dozen unpublished items of various description—the main body of what can now be found of his early literary and subliterary work, though by no means everything written during those twenty years of experimentation. The selections are ordered chronologically and therefore provide a nearly continuous record of the author's literary activity from his earliest juvenilia up through the mature work that he published in the Galaxy, the Buffalo Express, and many other journals.

Book excerpt: The imaginary world of a child transforms into a place where she creates an adventurous environment, while sharing who creates all life. This is the story of "Izzy Busy Bee", away from her daytime life as a little girl, who is known by her family and community as, simply Izzy. At night however, her creative thoughts turn into a dream, where she becomes a helpful, insightful leader; into the busy world of bees. While Izzy has a colorful and fun time with the playmates of her dream, her dream inspires insight for children to think about how big all of creation is and the great significance of a tiny bee. Sheila C. Morgan has developed honor and great appreciation to God for the gift and passion to write. Her desire to reach children in their early developmental years and experience the awareness of God, sparked many ideas to incorporate in a child's everyday learning experiences. Her writing background expands from several categories during her career and ministry. Through it all, Sheila believes no matter what, God always has a plan. Happy to introduce her children's book "Izzy Busy Bee", encourages her optimistic view, to continue serving in the body of Christ and love for children and their future.
