Book Pees on Earth

Book excerpt: Since the time she was so desperate she had to pee on the street and noticed the patterns and light caught in her urination, Jong has captured her tracks through New York, Miami, Shanghai, Mexico, the countryside and seaside, under moonlight and opposite sunset. These images, exhibited at numerous galleries, capture not only Jong's rebellious exuberance, but also offer a comment on what constitutes the personal and the political. Pees on Earth is a statement about the ownership of self, of sensuality, of humanity, and of womanhood - all expressed with beauty and humour.

Book Rush Limbaugh

Download or read book Rush Limbaugh written by Zev Chafets and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-09-27 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER! The bestselling biography of America’s Anchorman by the journalist who knew him best "Chafets has seen more of the pundit's personal world than any other journalist." -The Washington Post People tend to remember the moment they first heard The Rush Limbaugh Show on the radio. For Zev Chafets, it was in a car in Detroit. The braggadocio, the outrageous satire, the slaughtering of liberal sacred cows performed with the verve of a rock and roll DJ-it seemed fresh, funny, and completely subversive. "They're never going to let this guy stay on the air," he thought. Almost two decades later Chafets met Rush and they spent hours together talking on the record about politics, sports, music, show business, religion, and modern American history. Rush opened his home and his world, introducing Chafets to his family, his closest friends, even his psychologist. What has emerged after months of correspondence revealing Rush Limbaugh's thoughts, fears, and ambitions, is a uniquely personal look at the man who was not only the most popular voice on the radio, but also one of the most influential figures in the conservative movement.

Book The Scorpion and the Frog a Natural Conspiracy

Download or read book The Scorpion and the Frog a Natural Conspiracy written by William A. Borst and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2004-11-22 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To deny that conspiracies exist is to deny history. While there are several chapters on traditional conspirators, from the Masons through the Bilderbergers, the book unveils the ideas that have unified conspiracies into a coherent rendition of evil. This book is an intellectual history of the City of God versus the City of Man, in the ultimate culture war. It does not take a cadre of men in some secret room to effect a unified conspiracy. Like the scorpion in the fable, their ideas become second nature to liberals, socialists, or communists and they act in accordance with their nature.

Book Write These Laws on Your Children

Download or read book Write These Laws on Your Children written by Robert Kunzman and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homeschooling is a large and growing phenomenon in American society--between 1999 and 2003 it grew at ten times the rate of public school enrollments. Current estimates suggest that about two million kids are homeschooled, but information about them is incomplete. Here, educator Robert Kunzman uses his unprecedented access to six conservative Christian homeschooling families to explore this elusive world, from the day-to-day lives of its adherents to its broader aspirations to transform American culture and politics. He shows us what their homeschooling experience looks like firsthand, what their political and religious beliefs are, and what their kids learn about democratic citizenship and engaging with people with different beliefs. Woven throughout Kunzman's narrative are larger questions about the purpose of public education, what makes an educated citizenry--and how American political and intellectual life could change as conservative Christian homeschooled children reach adulthood.--From publisher description.

Download or read book Reclaiming Accountability written by Heidi Kitrosser and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Americans have long treated government accountability as a birthright. However, accountability is frequently tossed about in a rhetorically effective but substantively empty way. We often feel that those in government “work for us” and therefore must “answer to us,” but fail to grapple with the conditions under which we can really assess how accountable our government is. This is especially true with respect to matters of secrecy and transparency in government as, while we routinely voice support for transparency and accountability, we too often tolerate secrecy when associated with “national security.” The government plainly needs to keep some information secret, and there are ways to reconcile secrecy with accountability. In Reclaiming Accountability, unchecked secrecy is the primary concern as insufficient checking breeds unnecessary, even counterproductive, secrecy and is also deeply antithetical to accountability. Heidi Kitrosser shows how, for all of its influence, “presidentialism” badly misreads the Constitution. The book first explains presidentialism and its major component parts – “supremacy” and “unitary executive theory.” It then details how supremacy and unitary executive theory manifest themselves as arguments for a broad presidential power to control information. The descriptive elements lay the groundwork for Kitrosser's two normative arguments. The first is that the Constitution situates the presidency within a substantive accountability framework that entails substantial congressional and judicial leeway to impose and enforce external and internal checks on presidential power to foster transparency and accountability. And, closely related, the second argument is that supremacy and unitary executive theory misread the Constitution.

Download or read book Fighting Words written by LeRoy L. Lane and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-06-03 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Fighting Words, an interesting and provocative picture of George W. Bush emerges, very different from the one often presented in the press. Drawing on extensive research, the author brings together the man of faith, the astute political leader, and the persuasive speaker. His treatment credits the President with positive attributes and domestic and international accom- plishments. The book takes the view that what we know about President Bush generally comes through the speeches that we hear him give, beginning with his spontaneous, incisive remarks at Ground Zero. By focusing on truth as a vital sign of viable political rhetoric, and giving a formula for producing effective persuasive speeches, the author provides standards with which to appraise political leaders' rhetoric. An analysis of George W's credibility as a leader uses the researched traits of competent, forward- looking, inspiring, and honest. His intelligence is appraised on the basis of multiple intelligences theory. Highlighting George W's transformation into an effective persuasive speaker are discussions of his two distinct verbal styles; his rhetorical asset of humor; his dominant themes of value; and his speech delivery.
