Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Froebel-Parker's book about Friedrich Froebel and Baroness Bertha von Marenholtz-Buelow is the third in his "Ahnentafel" series. It was preceded by "Friedrich and the First Kindergarten" and "Grandma Harrington and the Queen's Wardrobe." In "The First Kindergarten: Friedrich Wilhelm August Froebel & Baroness Bertha Marie von Marenholtz-Buelow" the author expands the story of the founding of Kindergarten to include Friedrich Froebel's tireless friend and advocate, Baroness von Marenholtz-Buelow. Opening the doors of cultural luminaries and European nobility to Froebel's ideas, the noblewoman from the ancient von Buelow family is often dubbed "the mother of Kindergarten" just as Froebel is referred to as "the father of Kindergarten." In this historical novel, which includes much biographical information, Froebel-Parker joins through literature the lives and contributions of two of the world's greatest proponents of children's education which are still relevant today.

Book How Kindergarten Came to America

Download or read book How Kindergarten Came to America written by Bertha von Marenholtz-Bülow and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published as "Reminiscences of Friedrich Froebel," this enchanting 1894 account of the German inventor of kindergartens was instrumental in bringing kindergartens to the United States. This lively portrait of a pioneer of modern education is a refreshing reminder of the essential role of play and creative exploration in the development of children. Froebel's methods provide a much-needed antidote to the current emphasis on high-stakes testing and accelerated curricula--a corruption, as Herbert Kohl argues in his foreword, of the original concept of kindergartens as children's gardens of learning.

Download or read book Finding Froebel written by Helge Wasmuth and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-14 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friedrich Froebel, the 'father of kindergarten', is one of the most influential pedagogues of the 19th century. However, relatively little is known about his life, his successes and failures, and his personal relationships. Based on many untranslated and unknown letters, this new biography presents Froebel as a brilliant but also flawed man. Beginning with his childhood and the early death of his mother, as well as his difficult relationship with his father and stepmother, we see the early seeds of Froebel's interest in children and the training of early childhood practitioners. While Froebel lacked basic academic knowledge due to his poor early education, he was able to overcome these deficits and found an educational institute, and develop ground-breaking educational theories about play and pedagogy. He authored multiple books, including his most famous work The Education of Man. The focus of this book, though, is not on Froebel's educational theories but on his complicated relationships with his family, the Keilhau community, and the mother of one of his pupils, Caroline von Holzhausen, whom he called the “rune of his life”. After many personal and professional disappointments, Froebel finally came up with the idea that made him famous until today: kindergarten. In the last decade of his life, he became a salesman of this new idea and worked tirelessly for the establishment of the kindergarten movement. However, when the Prussian government banned kindergarten shortly before his death, Froebel was broken – even if kindergarten lives until today.
