Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cradle to Paradise exposes the Laws of Yahweh, blessed be He. It is a 613 coded do's and don'ts from the basis which are Ten Words / Commandments, Statutes and Judgments. It received attention from the people of old to keep with Moses as the main expounder while Abraham and his sons - Isaac and Jacob as the prime Performers. Yahsha Messiah, Our Savior was also obedient to the Law as He serves as its perfection in the transfiguration story in Matt. 17:1-3. The Most High and Israelites had contract based on these Laws which also included both the earthly and spiritual land acquisitions. With this Torah given to Israelites as a heritage, the modern church and indeed the secular world of Christendom are seen to be entirely Hebraic in origin hence they will need to go back to base.

Download or read book Inventing God s Law written by David P. Wright and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009-09-03 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most scholars believe that the numerous similarities between the Covenant Code (Exodus 20:23-23:19) and Mesopotamian law collections, especially the Laws of Hammurabi, which date to around 1750 BCE, are due to oral tradition that extended from the second to the first millennium. This book offers a fundamentally new understanding of the Covenant Code, arguing that it depends directly and primarily upon the Laws of Hammurabi and that the use of this source text occurred during the Neo-Assyrian period, sometime between 740-640 BCE, when Mesopotamia exerted strong and continuous political and cultural influence over the kingdoms of Israel and Judah and a time when the Laws of Hammurabi were actively copied in Mesopotamia as a literary-canonical text. The study offers significant new evidence demonstrating that a model of literary dependence is the only viable explanation for the work. It further examines the compositional logic used in transforming the source text to produce the Covenant Code, thus providing a commentary to the biblical composition from the new theoretical perspective. This analysis shows that the Covenant Code is primarily a creative academic work rather than a repository of laws practiced by Israelites or Judeans over the course of their history. The Covenant Code, too, is an ideological work, which transformed a paradigmatic and prestigious legal text of Israel's and Judah's imperial overlords into a statement symbolically countering foreign hegemony. The study goes further to study the relationship of the Covenant Code to the narrative of the book of Exodus and explores how this may relate to the development of the Pentateuch as a whole.

Book excerpt: "Goodness like a fetter." The hymn "Come Thou Fount" reminds us that God's laws were created to draw us closer to him. But reading the law is intimidating. Deuteronomy is a long and ancient book full of speeches and laws for a wandering people on the cusp of entering a land filled with hostile nations. What could Deuteronomy have to say for modern readers who face vastly different issues? Invited to Know God shows that Deuteronomy is simply about knowing God. The book is a divine portal, drawing people into the ancient presence of God. To understand God better, we need to understand Deuteronomy better. Rather than being a dusty book of ancient laws, Deuteronomy calls those who love God to know Him better, choose the path to life, and flourish under His loving wisdom and guidance. God's laws bind our wandering hearts to him.

Book An Introduction to Biblical Law

Download or read book An Introduction to Biblical Law written by Morrow, William and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2017 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Informed, accessible textbook on law collections in the Pentateuch In this book William Morrow surveys four major law collections in Exodus-Deuteronomy and shows how they each enabled the people of Israel to create and sustain a community of faith. Treating biblical law as dynamic systems of thought facilitating ancient Israel's efforts at self-definition, Morrow describes four different social contexts that gave rise to biblical law: (1) Israel at the holy mountain (the Ten Commandments); (2) Israel in the village assembly (Exodus 20:22-23:19); (3) Israel in the courts of the Lord (priestly and holiness rules in Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers); and (4) Israel in the city (Deuteronomy). Including forthright discussion of such controversial subjects as slavery, revenge, gender inequality, religious intolerance, and contradictions between bodies of biblical law, Morrow's study will help students and other serious readers make sense out of texts in the Pentateuch that are often seen as obscure.

  • ISBN : 1606080385
  • Pages : 279 pages

Download or read book The Laws of Deuteronomy written by Calum M. Carmichael and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-09-11 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Carmichael here proposes a convincing solution to a perplexing problem in biblical studies--the order and arrangement of the Deuteronomic laws. He shows that Deuteronomy is not a haphazard collection of fragments, but rather a carefully constructed, coherent literary work with a definite purpose. Through his analysis, many of the peculiar features of the code are made intelligible, for example, the relationship between the laws and earlier stories, sagas, and historical narratives. Opening up a new approach to the interpretation of the laws, this book makes an important contribution to the understanding of biblical material.

Book Apologia for the Law and the Sabbath

Download or read book Apologia for the Law and the Sabbath written by Roger Hadad and published by Voir Dire Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2021-03-28 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Gospels we find that Jesus consistently refers to the first five books of the Old Testament as “the Law.” And on many occasions, the Master extracts legal precedents from this law in order to settle all kinds of disputed matters and even subdue the Tempter. Yet modern believers dogmatically insist that this same law has been “done away” in order to make way for salvation. But is this a helpful and correct understanding of the Holy Scriptures? What are the unintended consequences of promoting a view where the Bible, as it were, devours itself? Is there a cognitive price to be paid? Have contemporary Christians set themselves up for failure and misperception by advancing this view, as we force our square doctrinal peg into the round Scriptural hole? Can we really uproot justice, mercy, and faith from the Old Testament, yet maintain a coherent biblical worldview? The author of Apologia believes that there is a better way. Discover the unbreakable unity of the Holy Scriptures and be free from the cognitive dissonance that plagues modern believers. Discover the encrypted code that runs all through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, the connection between the Old Testament Law and the New Covenant, the difference between legalism and lawfulness, and the Scriptural way of loving God. Apologia for the Law and the Sabbath is an audacious and in-your-faith way of looking at the Bible that causes the heart to burn with passion. It forcefully tears open the veil that separates Old and New Testament Scriptures to reveal a bold and seamless narrative which reveals the Creator’s ancient code of conduct for believers. Tread past salvation’s timid threshold and boldly step into the path of righteousness, where we partner with God as we strive to reach the full measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ and boldly claim your rightful place as sons and daughters of the Almighty. Discover the common denominator which characterized our spiritual ancestors—Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and the apostle Paul. Rekindle your new birth passion and strengthen your faith in a way you never thought possible. Grow past the bashful platitudes and learn the way of the Master. Read the book others are calling “tremendous,” “excellent,” and “refreshing.”

Book A Law Book for the Diaspora

Download or read book A Law Book for the Diaspora written by John Van Seters and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2002-11-21 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The foundation for all study of biblical law is the assumption that the Covenant Code is the oldest legal code in the Hebrew Bible and that all other laws are revisions of that code. This book sets forth the radical hypothesis that those laws in the covenant code that are similar to Deuteronomy and the Holiness Code are in fact later than both of these, and therefore can't be taken as the foundation of Hebrew Law.
