Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are the Ten Commandments the standard for Christian living? There are many viewpoints on the place of the Mosaic Law today. Some affirm that while we are not saved through keeping the law, it remains our standard for living, a pattern to be followed. Others say we are free from the law. This brief examination of the law affirms all of God's revelation as Christian Scripture, but acknowledges covenantal differences in God's dealings with believers. The progress of salvation history, and our identification with Christ, has altered our relationship to the Mosaic Law. Using the Law "lawfully" requires us to recognize the way in which the New Testament, and chiefly the Apostle Paul, treats the law. Paul presents the believer as having died to the law, and serving now in the new way of the Spirit, a way that does not depend on the Mosaic law. The pattern for the New Testament believer remains Jesus himself. While keeping all of God's law, he went beyond its requirement to demonstrate a love for sinners that the law did not know.

Book The Divine Source and World Unity

Download or read book The Divine Source and World Unity written by Adolph Moses and published by Hudson Mohawk Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolph Moses taught that the true religion of Moses is recognition of the one God for everyone everywhere, not a tribal religion forming the basis for an ethnic state in the Middle East. Moses emphasized the universal nature of Judaism and all true religion. He adopted the term "Yahvism" to emphasize his conviction that Judaism was neither a national nor a tribal religion. He wanted to attract non-Jews to Judaism, and he wanted to lure back Jews who had lost affection for their religion. Most of all he wanted to show that Judaism is a religion for all those who are interested in learning about it, and not a religion exclusively or even primarily for those born as Jews. His vision was a new Church of Humanity grounded in the universal vision of the biblical prophets and based on mutual respect, union and universal love. It is with his universal vision in mind that we present this selection of his writings edited into gender-neutral language, in recognition of Moses's desire to be a light to all people. This edition includes the 1885 Declaration of Principles that became the foundation of what came to be known as "Classical Reform Judaism", along with a new Introduction.

Book The Theopolitical Discourses of Moses

Download or read book The Theopolitical Discourses of Moses written by Martin Sicker and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Deuteronomy, the last of the Five Books of Moses or Pentateuch, consists in the main of Moses' final discourses delivered to the children of Israel as they stood poised to begin the conquest and settlement of the land upon which they were to build a national society. The central concern of Moses, as reflected in these discourses, is with the challenge of nation building, creating an Israelite nation out of a mélange of ethnically related tribes and clans that were just liberated from centuries of subjugation and servitude in a relatively sophisticated pagan environment. That which is to bind them together is not a compact between them but rather a common covenant with God to which all would be equal parties. Many of the terms of the covenant were revealed incrementally in the earlier books of the Pentateuch. However, it is only here in Deuteronomy that Moses begins to give them the clearly discernible shape of a constitution for the covenantal society to be established as a nation-state in its divinely assigned territory. Within the constitutional framework set forth in the work is a range of precepts, rules, and regulations governing both those matters that are between man and God and those between man and man, understood as the two sides of a common coin, the covenant. In the effort to comprehend and explain the highly complex biblical text, the author has consulted and cited a wide range of commentaries and studies written over a period of some two millennia that have sought to understand the biblical texts from a variety of perspectives, many of which are virtually inaccessible to those without a good working knowledge of Hebrew.
