Book excerpt: The Dutch telecommunications market is probably one of the most open in the world. Three years after its full liberalisation (which was completed six months ahead of the EU timetable) the Netherlands have approximately 65 operators with interconnection or special network agreements, including five providers of mobile telephony networks. Nearly all of the world's largest international players have established a presence in the Dutch telecom market. It is for their benefit and for the benefit of their advisers that this book has been published. Dutch Telecommunications Law contains the full text of the Dutch Telecommunications Act and of the most important decrees adopted thereunder, concurrently in Dutch and in the English language. In addition, it contains a practical introduction to the telecommunications laws of the Netherlands described by leading practitioners in the field.

Book Telecommunications Regulation in the Netherlands

Download or read book Telecommunications Regulation in the Netherlands written by Peter V. Eijsvoogel and published by . This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As in the rest of the world, the telecommunications industry in the Netherlands has been subject to drastic change over the last few years. By necessity, the same applies to its regulation. the present Dutch Telecommunications Act dates from 1988, when competitive provision of infrastructure and services was almost non-existent. Since then, technological developments and a general tendency towards liberalisation have had a profound impact on the market structure. on 15 July 1996, a major amendment to the Dutch Telecommunications Act introduced virtually unlimited competition in the provision of fixed telecommunication infrastructure. In addition, almost all telecommunication services, with the exception of public voice telephony, were liberalised. This book provides an introduction to Dutch telecommunications regulation, and contains English translations of the Telecommunications Act, the Fixed Telecommunications Infra-structure Licenses Act, and a number of important regulations implementing the acts. This publication results from a cooperative effort between the law firm Loeff Claeys Verbeke and the Telecommunications and Post Department of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management.

Book Legal Aspects of Implementing International Telecommunication Links Institutions Regulations and Instruments

Download or read book Legal Aspects of Implementing International Telecommunication Links Institutions Regulations and Instruments written by Jan Smits and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991-10-17 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological advances strongly influence developments in international telecommunications services. This book illustrates how international institutional and regulatory frameworks implement technological advances in the field of telecommunications. These frameworks canalize technology on the one hand and guide legal implementation of the actual international connections on the other. International telecommunications links are implemented by means of geostationary satellite or through submarine cables. The regulations and organizations dealing with satellite connections differ significantly from international regulations and organizations in the field of submarine cables. In Legal Aspects of Implementing International Telecommunication Links the concepts of `allocation' and `interconnection' are used to bridge the gap between these two different domains. Following a characterization and discussion of these concepts, The actual legal implementation of both types of connections is described in detail.

Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this practical guide to cyber law – the law affecting information and communication technology (ICT) – in the Netherlands covers every aspect of the subject, including intellectual property rights in the ICT sector, relevant competition rules, drafting and negotiating ICT-related contracts, electronic transactions, privacy issues, and computer crime. Following a general introduction, the book assembles its information and guidance in seven main areas of practice: the regulatory framework of the electronic communications market; software protection, legal protection of databases or chips, and other intellectual property matters; contracts with regard to software licensing and network services, with special attention to case law in this area; rules with regard to electronic evidence, regulation of electronic signatures, electronic banking, and electronic commerce; specific laws and regulations with respect to the liability of network operators and service providers and related product liability; protection of individual persons in the context of the processing of personal data and confidentiality; and the application of substantive criminal law in the area of ICT. Its succinct yet scholarly nature, as well as the practical quality of the information it provides, make this book a valuable time-saving tool for business and legal professionals alike. Book The New International Telecommunication Regulations and the Internet

Download or read book The New International Telecommunication Regulations and the Internet written by Richard Hill and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a clear and thorough account of the process leading up to the revision of the International Telecommunication Regulations (ITRs) one of the four treaties administered by the ITU. The author’s inside view of the events and his legal analysis of the new ITRs, are different from that what has been aired in most other accounts to date. His systematic approach shows how much of the criticism of the WCIT-12 process and of the ITRs themselves, is unjustified. This book provides the most accurate view to date of what the ITRs really mean and of what really happened at WCIT-12, which was undoubtedly a key event in the history of telecommunication policy and which is likely to have significant long-term effects. The book covers in some detail the events leading to the non-signature of the treaty by a significant number of states, outlines possible consequences of that split between states, and offers possible ways forward. The book includes a detailed article-by-article analysis of the new ITRs, explaining their implications and concludes with recommendations for national authorities. It concludes with an analysis of events from the point of view of dispute resolution theory, offering suggestions for how to avoid divisive outcomes in the future. "This is an excellent book, and quite rich and comprehensive. The topic is important and the book will surely be of interest to regulators, diplomats, policy experts, and all those who participated in WCIT. The author is uniquely qualified to write an analysis of the new ITRs and an account of the Conference. This book will be a good reference for the next Plenipotentiary Conference to be held in 2014 which is going to discuss follow-up to WCIT-12." Naser al-Rashedi, United Arab Emirates. "This is an authoritative expert account of a moment of high significance for vital issues with respect to international networks." Professor Dan Schiller, University of Illinois. "This is an excellent and timely work." Professor Ian Walden, Queen Mary, University of London. "Interested persons, businesses and governments can draw their policies from the assessments of a telecommunications insider as presented in this book. The manifold arguments enlightening the interpretation of the provisions of the ITRs might become an invaluable guidance for those who apply the ITRs in the future." Professor Dr. Rolf H. Weber, University of Zurich.
