Book The Law Officer s Pocket Manual

Download or read book The Law Officer s Pocket Manual written by John G. Miles Jr. and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Law Officer’s Pocket Manual is a handy, pocket-sized, spiral-bound manual that highlights basic legal rules for quick reference and offers examples showing how those rules are applied. The manual provides concise guidance based on U.S. Supreme Court rulings on constitutional law issues and other legal developments, covering arrest, search, surveillance, and other routine as well as sensitive areas of law enforcement. It includes more than 100 examples drawn from leading cases to provide guidance on how to act in a wide variety of situations. The 2020 edition is completely updated to reflect recent court decisions. This book helps you keep track of everything in a readable and easy-to-carry format. Some of the most important case rulings from the past 12 months include: The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that probable cause for an arrest precludes a later First Amendment retaliatory arrest claim. The U.S. Supreme Court determined that the exigent circumstances doctrine to the Fourth Amendment will generally allow for a blood draw from an unconscious motorist to be performed without a warrant. The Eleventh Circuit ruled that seizing items, such as a mobile phone, from bystanders violates clearly established law and subjects the officer to a civil rights lawsuit. The Ninth Circuit ruled that the seizure of a mobile phone without a warrant following a high-speed chase was justified as an inventory search under the Fourth Amendment. The Second Circuit dove into the circuit split on rental car searches, deciding that an unlicensed driver not in lawful possession of the vehicle cannot challenge the search. The Seventh Circuit explained that the exclusionary rule does not apply to an illegal entry if there is overwhelming evidence of probable cause and a search warrant was planned before entry. The Second Circuit reaffirmed the principle that prolonging a traffic stop is not unconstitutional if the reason is supported by reasonable suspicion. Annually updated since 1972, The Law Enforcement Pocket Manual, provides police officers, criminal justice practitioners, and students with historical and social context for their role in criminal justice and the guidelines that should be followed in day-to-day policing activities. Book Tactical Counterterrorism

Download or read book Tactical Counterterrorism written by Dean T. Olson and published by Charles C. Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Police officers on the beat, officers on patrol, all cops - local, state, tribal and federal, 750,000 strong - doing what they do every day are the first and most effective line of defense against terrorist acts committed in the Homeland. This manual is designed to overcome the failure of our national counter-terrorist strategy to better utilize local cops in homeland security by providing essential and practical knowledge local officers can use to identify terrorist precursor activities and more effectively interdict and prevent terrorist attacks from occurring. The goal is to acquaint officers with proactive "first preventer" knowledge and tactics so they can make police counterterrorism an integral part of their duties. Numerous case studies flesh out concepts such as terrorism, homeland security, terrorist threats posed by different terror groups, police counterterrorism intelligence, lone wolf terrorism, behavioral indicators of Islamist radicalization, terrorist tradecraft, terrorism indicators and warning signs, the terrorist attack cycle, terrorist attack tactics such as sniping, weapons of mass destruction, arson, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), suicide bombing tactics and surveillance detection techniques. This manual is an excellent source of basic to intermediate training for intelligence analysts, members of Joint Terrorism Task Forces, criminal intelligence investigators, and all police officers.

Book Use of Force Investigations

Download or read book Use of Force Investigations written by Kevin R. Davis and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jottings is a collection of poems written over a period of twenty years. Most of the poems in this collection are contextual. Written in different genres of poetry, while some of the poems appear as general statements but having a bearing on nature. Others are responses of the poet to social/economic/political issues and those related to women. The poems reflect the mood and views of the poet. While poems like "A Symbol of Beauty," "Horizon," "Loss" appear simple, they have an underlying meaning, the philosophy of life. In poems like "Disgusting" and "To a Brave Son," the poet points an accusing finger at the powers that be for the sorry state of affairs. "Love" brings out the true meaning of the word while describing the different stages in the life of a person. The life of a girl child form the theme of "Who Am I." The hapless condition of young women and children, especially girls, are brought to fore in "To Ponnus and Malalas" and "Sadist Minds." "Down Memory Lane" goes back in time. There are also satirical poems that take potshots at and ridicule the superstitious and the believers like "Light That Darkens," "In Fool's Paradise," "Onam," and "In Your Name." Again, while "Bapu" is on Mahatma Gandhi and his ideals, it ridicules all those who earned fame in his name. While "Motherland's Boys" talks of the deterioration of India-Pakistan relations, "How Many More Children Will You Kill" chides Israelis and Palestinians for deaths of innocent children. "An Unknown Past" looks at an old person struggling in vain to open the locked doors of her memory. There are also poems that talk of a personal loss and some that snub individuals that make haughty statements. All the illustrations in the book are by cartoonist and animator Mr. Swathi Jaikumar.

Book The Law Enforcement Handbook

Download or read book The Law Enforcement Handbook written by Desmond Rowland and published by . This book was released on 2009-01-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Law Enforcement Handbook is designed to provide the basic grounding a police officer requires to perform effectively while carrying out the duties of a patrol officer or criminal investigator. Because the division between patrol and investigative duties varies considerably among police forces, and may not exist in smaller departments, the author has taken a comprehensive approach that follows the officer from the initial stop of a suspect on the street to testimony in court. This book can be used as a core text for recruit training, as a handbook for more experienced officers, as a training manual for security personnel without prior police experience, or as a resource book in university police science courses. A thorough mastery of the material presented in this book will provide the information required to handle virtually all normal police duties, up to and including major criminal investigations. This book, written by a former police officer, takes a practical approach to the police profession and is designed to provide detailed information and quick reference access.
