Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 94: April 28, 1932 I believed in the words of the prophet of God, and I read the Book of Mormon as I had never read it before, with a prayerful heart, praying that God would Open unto me, a young man, the truths of that book, and when I finished it, with the thought in mind that I had read it the best I possibly could, there came to me a testimony of its truthfulness. I have never from that day to this had one doubt concerning the truthfulness of that book. I believe more strongly to-day than I ever did before in its truthfulness. As I stood upon the Hill Cumorah with my wife and family, there came a testimony to us all greater than we had had before that this book is true, and then I rejoiced once more that I had distributed a considerable number of copies of the Book of Mor mon amon g the people in the land of Great Britain. I know that if men and women will read it in the right way they too will gain the testimony that came to me concerning its truthfulness. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 94: July 28, 1932 Though I seem to have been born with a testimony yet in my early adolescence I was led to question whether that testimony was really my own or derived from my parents. I set about investigating the claims of the Church and pursued that investigation by prayer, fasting and research with all the ardour of an investigator on the outside. While such a one investigates with a view of coming into the Church if its claims be verified, I was seeking a way out of the Church if its claims Should prove to me to be unsound. After months of such inquiry I found myself in possession of an assurance beyond all question that I was in solemn fact a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. I was convinced once for all, and this knowledge isso fully an integral part of my being that without it I would not be myself. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 94: October, 13, 1932 Philosophy. Mormon philosophy teaches that man, who is the literal offspring of God, His spiritual child, lived in a pre existent state; that he was placed on the earth as an eternal spirit in a mortal body to undergo the experiences that belong to this earth. Man suffered death, a separation of body and spirit, through the fall of his first parents. A Redeemer, Jesus Christ, was provided, empowered to overcome death. This Redeemer made possible a reunion of the spirit and the body through the resurrection, from death to immortality. When man reaches the immortal state he will be rewarded according to his works in the mortal state. His progress continues and is eternal. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 94: August 4, 1932 The purity of the social and family life of the Latter-day Saints is evidenced in many directions. This book was released on 2017-02-19 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 89: July 28, 1927 As the Apostles grew in knowledge and understanding under His superior tutelage He manifested His foreknowledge of the sacrifice that lay ahead of Him; though not until late in His period of earthly ministry did He openly declare this unto the people in general and even the Twelve were unable or unwilling to construe His plain declarations literally. When He once told them that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day, Peter was so deeply affected by the tragic prospect that he exclaimed: this shall not be unto thee. The remark drew from Jesus a very severe rebuke. See Matt. -23. On the return journey from the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus spoke in confidence and plainness to Peter, James, and John con cerning His rising from the dead: And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. See Mark 9: 9, 10. Following a remarkable healing whereby a boy was freed from the torments of an evil Spirit, Jesus again impressed upon the Twelve His certain knowledge of what was to befall Him, saying: Let these sayings sink down into your ears for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. See Luke 9: 44, 45. On another occasion He was equally plain in predicting His then rapidly approaching death and resurrection - and again the Apostles failed to completely understand. See Matt. 16: 21 and Mark 8: 31 and 9: 31. To certain devout Greeks He declared the necessity of His death, that resurrection might follow; and in close connection with this incident the voice of the Father was again heard. See Matt. 26: 2. To Martha He avowed: I am the resurrection, and the life. See John 11: 25. The hesitancy of the Twelve to accept these declarations in literalness may have been due to the human weakness that mani fests itself in unwillingness to believe what one does not desire to believe. That the foreknowledge of Christ concerning Himself extended beyond the grave is shown by His predictions concern ing His then future preaching in the spirit world, and His many affirmations concerning His second coming, yet future. These we shall consider in later lessons. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
