Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: January 3, 1924 There is nothing in our Lord's comments regarding the murdered Galileans and others above quoted, that encourages the idea that unrepented sin and evil would not at some time or another, and in some form or another, be followed by a just recompense. His remarks seem mere] y to have implied that retaliation does not always follow at once upon transgression and wrongdoing, and sometimes not even in this life; just as He taught that when men come to Violent and sudden deaths, it is not to be immediately assumed that they are Specially wicked above all other people. There have always been and still are many cases of unprincipled and evil-minded persons who seem rather to prosper in this life than to suffer. King David speaks of the prosperity of the wicked in his time, and says, Behold these are the ungodly, who prosper inthe world they increase in riches (ps. 73. That now my beloved parents are gone, they have passed out of my life forever and that I will never see them again, that would deprive me of aone of the greatest joys that I have in life, the contemplation of meeting them again, and receiving their welcome and their affection and of thanking them from the depths of a grateful heart. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: March 6, 1924 Joseph Smith did not, out of superior wisdom which he had, or because of his great learning, nor his deeper insight into the scriptures, excell the men of his generation or the generations that preceded him, in magnifying and in glorifying the mission and the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was qualified by heaven to accomplish the great work of setting before the world once again a true conception of the Father and of His Son, and of the Gospel which the Son introduced in the meridian of time. But the explanation given by the Lord is the important point for us to consider Jesus answered, neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. The Lord's purposes were worked out in the case, for the man was healed, and the instance stands as a testimony for or against those who have become acquainted with the circumstance. Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 86 written by David O. McKay and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-21 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: January 10, 1924 Then we know very well that the Savior called others into the ministry and put upon them great authority. He called men to be high priests in the Church in His day. It ought not to be a strange thing to people when they hear of this - that there were high priests in the Church in the days of Christ. He called men to be seventies, and He sent them forth the Scriptures say, two by two before Him to prepare the way for His coming. Others were called to be elders in the Church, and some were called to be bishops and priests, teachers and deacons, so that it took all of these various orders of men in the priesthood to constitute His Church, and it could not be and was not His Church fully organized, until the quorums were called into existence. I have been a little definite upon this subject because there is a. Tendency in many directions and with some people to ignore the fact of the necessity of an organization. It is necessary. So we find in the latter-days, upon this great land of liberty, under the Constitution of the United States, which we revere, and under the protection of the law, the Church of God was founded. And lo and behold, the founder of this Church, under the direction of the Almighty, proceeded to organize the Church after the manner of the Church of Christ. I am speaking now of Joseph Smith. The way he obtained this authority is unique, I might say, original, quite original, com pared with the standards of the day. Joseph Smith did not go to other sects and denominations for his authority surely he did not. He did not go to the Catholic Church to get authority; he did not go to any of the Protestant churches - the Baptist, the Methodist, the Episcopalian, or the Congregationalist. He did not go to the Church of England or the Church of Russia or any other church. No, he derived his authority directly from heaven. Is it not consistent? Might we not suppose that those who held the authority in the days of Christ, such as the apostles and the prophets who were persecuted, driven from pillar to post, and slain, took their authority with them? As I said is it not reasonable to believe that if the Church of God was again to be established on the earth, that those who held the authority would bring it back to the earth again? Well, just such a thing happened. The youth ful prophet tells us that John, the Baptist, tame to him and declared that he was a messenger from God, that he came for a special purpose, and that purpose was to transmit his authority, the authority that he held in the days of Christ, the keys of the Aaronic Priesthood. He was to deliver those keys to Joseph Smith and his companion who was with him, Oliver Cowdery. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: May 15, 1924 The reports from our missions from all over the world are very satisfactory; and the one call, claim or plea that is made is, Send us more missionaries. There is only one real exception to this and that is in Japan. There is no exception in the call for more missionaries in that field, but after twenty odd years of labor in that country, we are convinced that not a dozen people have been thoroughly converted to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have seriously considered the question of closing that mission, but have not yet arrived at any conclusion. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: May 1, 1924 And thou hast made us that we could write but little, because of the awkwardness of our hands. And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness. This has been exemplified many times in the history of the Church. Where differences of Opinion exist, whether it be in regard to temporal affairs or whether it be in regard to spiritual affairs, or faith in God, by which we hope to attain to eternal life in His presence, there must be some basic law to which we can refer and from which there can be no further appeal, which is the end of controversy; otherwise, I may assert and you may deny, and controversy would never cease. As it applies to our civil affairs, the temporalities and their control, that tribunal is the civil law, the law which we ourselves have made. As it applies to God and His purposes, the law is His written and spoken word. From it there can be no just appeal. So in civil affairs we honor and respect and uphold the civil law, and in things which pertain to the word of the Lord, we adhere to His written word, as it is contained here in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon has been before the world now for nearly one hundred years. No one has ever pointed out an error in principle that is in it. Men may ridicule, they may scoff, but that does not constitute argument, nor evidence. They are the last arguments to which the vanquished always resort - ridicule, abuse, misre presentation and I suppose they will be applied to us. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: October 30, 1924 In his opening address, President Grant greeted the Saints and expressed joy at again meeting with them in general conference. He called attention to the radio set and said it had been esti mated that one million persons could hear the proceedings of this general conference, providing they listened in. He spoke of the wonder of the radio and said he rejoices in all great blessings. President Grant read from a revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith to the prophet's father, wherein it was said that a marvelous work and a wonder was about to be brought forth, admonishing the people to seek the Lord. This, said President Grant, he wished to impress upon the conference gathering. If there is any one special message, he said, that he desired to give the Church in conference assembled, it is Seek the Lord and serve Him with all your might, mind and strength. President Grant referred to a trip he made soon after the last general conference to various mission fields in the United States and Canada. He said he is pleased to report that the work is progressing, that the Elders and the lady missionaries are working faithfully and diligently. He said he played a game of golf near Kansas City on land once owned by General Doniphan, the courageous friend who once saved the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith by the stand he took against mob law.
