Book Linkages Between Vocational Education and Training Providers and Industry

Download or read book Linkages Between Vocational Education and Training Providers and Industry written by Josie Misko and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study described the general and vocational education and training (VET) systems in Korea and Australia, focusing on the role of training providers and industry in the delivery of entry-level vocational education and training in both countries. The study also analyzed the nature of the linkages established between VET institutions in the two countries and their respective tourism and hospitality, electrical and electronics, and information technologies sectors. The study identified these benefits derived from industry linkages to training providers for students, training institutions, and businesses in both countries: (1) national recognition and portability of qualifications; (2) opportunities for students to develop vocational skills and awareness of occupations and organizations; (3) opportunities for businesses to influence the off-the-job training programs of their apprentices or trainees; (4) centralization of arrangements for work experience programs; (5) opportunities to recruit new employees from student trainees; and (6) opportunities to fulfill community obligations and present a positive corporate image. Policy implications were noted for each country. The study concluded that nurturing of linkages between training providers and industry in both Australia and Korea is necessary for provision of adequate and relevant skill development for students. Book Vocational Education and Training in Times of Economic Crisis

Download or read book Vocational Education and Training in Times of Economic Crisis written by Matthias Pilz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a broad range of approaches and methodologies relevant to international comparative vocational education and training (VET). Revealing how youth in transition is affected by economic crises, it provides essential insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the various systems and prospects of VET in contexts ranging from North America to Europe, (e.g. Spain, Germany or the UK) to Asia (such as China, Thailand and India). Though each country examined in this volume is affected by the economic crisis in a different way, the effects are especially apparent for the young generation. In many countries the youth unemployment rate is still very high and the job perspectives for young people are often limited at best. The contributions in this volume demonstrate that VET alone cannot solve these problems, but can be used to support a smooth transition from school to work. If the quality of VET is high and the status and job expectations are good, VET can help to fill the skills gap, especially at the intermediate skill level. Furthermore, VET can also offer a realistic alternative to the university track for young people in many countries.

Book Vocational Education and Training in Small Rural School Communities

Download or read book Vocational Education and Training in Small Rural School Communities written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study documented factors associated with the operation of vocational education and training (VET) in small rural schools and their communities. Case studies of 14 schools with high-quality VET practices identified important facilitators of course development: formal commitment to the VET programs within the school's objectives; role of leadership in schools, training providers, employers, and the community; degree of organizational support, school's past experience of success; availability of physical, staffing, and community-based resources; and commitment to partnerships. Barriers were keeping up-to-date with information about and understanding of VET issues; availability of work placements; travel issues; teachers' perceptions of centralized control of curriculum; inflexible internal organization of schools; availability of staffing and other resources; and cluster coordination. The study identified the significance of partnerships. Particular school-industry partnerships are mentioned in the provision of work placements. The schools reported substantial developments in their VET programs in recent years. Implications were developed as recommendations for state and federal policy, school practice and further research, and more long-term planning and cooperative effort to maximize opportunities for students and reduce duplication of efforts. The 37-page report is followed by the case studies. (YLB)
