Book excerpt: Its the "Changing of the Guards"! Does God have a plan for the nations, and those who will lead the way? Of course He does, and when the "guards change" so does the rules of engagement. To change nations, cultures, and the way business is conducted, it all starts with a 21st Century Leader and Reformer. Men and women who pave the way for nations are kings and reformers of their day. La Vada D. Humphrey empowers agents of change as they shift and establish a footprint to reposition nations, and business systems that require reforming. She declares that there will be men and women who are in the "business for the Business" as God ushers them in to their spheres of influence. An emerging generation of change agents ready to fill the positions of a modern- day David, Josiah, Esther, and Nehemiah - all who ultimately changed the world. Coaching Kings is about "troubleshooters" and catalysts who carry solutions in the marketplace. If youre a business person, pastor, politician, Judge or one who feels that God has "chosen" you for such a time as this, perhaps youre the reformer that shall arise to occasion.

Book Weavers Scribes and Kings

Download or read book Weavers Scribes and Kings written by Amanda H. Podany and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This sweeping history of the ancient Near East (Mesopotamia, Syria, Anatolia, Iran) takes readers on a journey from the creation of the world's first cities to the conquest of Alexander the Great. The book is built around the life stories of many ancient men and women, from kings, priestesses, and merchants to bricklayers, musicians, and weavers. Their habits of daily life, beliefs, triumphs, and crises, and the changes that they faced over time are explored through their written words and the archaeological remains of the buildings, cities, and empires in which they lived. Rather than chronicling three thousand years of kingdoms, the book instead creates a tapestry of life stories through which readers come to know specific individuals from many walks of life, and to understand their places within the broad history of events and institutions in the ancient Near East. These life stories are preserved on ancient cuneiform tablets, which allow us to trace, for example, the career of a weaver as she advanced to became a supervisor of a workshop, listen to a king trying to persuade his generals to prepare for a siege, and feel the pain of a starving young couple who were driven to sell all four of their young children into slavery during a famine. What might seem at first glance to be a remote and inaccessible ancient culture proves to be a comprehensible world, one that bequeathed to us many of our institutions and beliefs, a truly fascinating place to visit"--

Book Infidel Kings and Unholy Warriors

Download or read book Infidel Kings and Unholy Warriors written by Brian A. Catlos and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth portrait of the Crusades-era Mediterranean world, and a new understanding of the forces that shaped the Mediterranean world of 1050-1200. We experience the sights and sounds of the region just as enlightened Islamic empires and primitive Christendom began to contest it. We learn about the siege tactics, theological disputes, and poetry of this enthralling time. And we see that people ofdifferent faiths coexisted far more frequently than we are commonly told. Catlos's meticulous reconstruction of the era allows him to stunningly overturn our most basic assumption about it: that it was defined by religious extremism. He brings to light many figures who were accepted as rulers by their ostensible foes.

Book Money and Power in Anglo Saxon England

Download or read book Money and Power in Anglo Saxon England written by Rory Naismith and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking study of coinage in early medieval England is the first to take account of the very significant additions to the corpus of southern English coins discovered in recent years and to situate this evidence within the wider historical context of Anglo-Saxon England and its continental neighbours. Its nine chapters integrate historical and numismatic research to explore who made early medieval coinage, who used it and why. The currency emerges as a significant resource accessible across society and, through analysis of its production, circulation and use, the author shows that control over coinage could be a major asset. This control was guided as much by ideology as by economics and embraced several levels of power, from kings down to individual craftsmen. Thematic in approach, this innovative book offers an engaging, wide-ranging account of Anglo-Saxon coinage as a unique and revealing gauge for the interaction of society, economy and government.

Book Albert Houtum Schindler A Remarkable Polymath in Late Qajar Iran

This book was released on 2023-08-09 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widely regarded in his lifetime as the greatest living authority on all things Iranian, across an enormous range of disciplines, Albert Houtum Schindler lived and worked in Iran from 1868 to 1911. All who either met or corresponded with him came away praising his encyclopaedic knowledge and remarkable insight. A member of numerous learned societies in Europe, he sustained a wide web of intellectual contacts and was insatiably curious. As an employee of the Indo-European Telegraph Department, the Imperial Bank of Persia and the Persian Bank Mining Rights Corporation, he experienced firsthand the ups and downs of Iran’s slow but inexorable movement towards modernity. Yet when he died in 1916 his obituaries were frustratingly brief. Private when it came to the details of his personal life, Albert Houtum Schindler gave little away. This book is the first full-scale examination of the life and legacy of an extraordinary witness to the late-Qajar period and the land, people and history of Iran.

Book 1 and 2 Chronicles

  • Author : William Johnstone
  • Publisher : A&C Black

Download or read book 1 and 2 Chronicles written by William Johnstone and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-part commentary argues that Chronicles, placed as it is among the 'historical books' in the traditional Old Testament of the Christian church, is much misunderstood. Restored to its proper position as the final book in the canon as arranged in the order of the Hebrew Bible, it is rather to be understood as a work of theology essentially directed towards the future. The Chronicler begins his work with the problem facing the whole human race in Adam-the forfeiture of the ideal of perfect oneness with God's purpose. He explores the possibility of the restoration of that ideal through Israel's place at the centre of the world of the nations. This portrayal reaches its climax in an idealized presentation of the reign of Solomon, in which all the rulers of the earth, including most famously the Queen of Sheba, bring their tribute in acknowledgment of Israel's status (Volume 1). As subsequent history only too clearly shows, however, the Chronicler argues (Volume 2), that Israel itself, through unfaithfulness to Torah, has forfeited its right to possession of its land and is cast adrift among these same nations of the world. But the Chronicler's message is one of hope. By a radical transformation of the chronology of Israel's past into theological terms, the generation whom the Chronicler addresses becomes the fiftieth since Adam. It is the generation to whom the jubilee of return to the land through a perfectly enabled obedience to Torah, and thus the restoration of the primal ideal of the human race, is announced.
