Book The King of Swat

Download or read book The King of Swat written by William McNeil and published by McFarland. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who was the greatest home run hitter of all time? Babe Ruth? Henry Aaron? Willie Mays? Mickey Mantle? How about Negro Leaguers such as Josh Gibson or Norman Turkey Stearnes? Or minor league sluggers such as Joe Bauman who hit 72 four-baggers in 1954? And where does Sadaharu Oh and his 868 homers in the Japanese Central League fit in? Using statistical comparisons and accounting for the variances between players of different eras and levels of competition, this work provides the answer to the question of the greatest home run hitter of all time. The minors, Japanese, Negro and major leagues--both the deadball and lively ball eras--are fully analyzed. The home run hitting careers of the candidates in each league are first compared against other top sluggers in their own league, accounting for such differences as level of competition, size of ballparks, altitude in which the player played most of his games, night baseball and major league expansion. Players from different leagues are then compared to find the one player who stands out as the greatest home run hitter in the game's history. And the answer might surprise you.

Book excerpt: This book is the first fascicle in a series that is designed as a reader’s Companion to a Sourcebook that presents all written sources with regard to Hunnic Peoples in Central and South Asia from the 4th to the 6th centuries of the Common Era. Both these books are the outcome of an international research project, funded by the European Research Council, which aimed at collecting and exploring the texts regarding the Eastern, non-European Huns in more than a dozen original languages. The first fascicle of the Companion Series focuses on the history of Hunnic People in South Asia, where they are known as H?n?a in Sanskrit literature or Alkhan according to their own coinage. These Alkhan entered the Subcontinent in the 4th century. The fascicle reconstructs the history of the Alkhan kings, Khin?gila Toram?n?a, and Mihirakula, and the impact of their invasion and control of large parts of Northern and Western India on Indian history and culture, in particular on the Gupta Empire. This history is shown to be interrelated with historic developments within the Sasanian Empire and historic events to the north of the Hindu Kush. This first fascicle of the Companion and the Sourcebook (D. Balogh, ed.) are published simultaneously by Barkhuis, Groningen. In the coming years other fascicles in this series will appear, exploring the collected sources with a focus on the history of Hunnic Peoples in Central Asia.

Unlikely patriot Garrett Reilly can identify threats against America from both inside and outside the nation’s borders. But now the whole world’s economy is at risk… Garrett Reilly sees what others do not: numbers, patterns, a nation on the brink of collapse. His unique talents saved countries from falling into a world war in The Ascendant. But it also made him a marked man―marked by terrorist groups; marked by the US Government. In The King of Fear, Garrett recognizes a string of events that could lead to economic Armageddon in the US: banks closing, grocery shelves lying empty, the nation’s currency rendered worthless. Total chaos could engulf society within a matter of days. Garrett and the Ascendant team reunite to face enemies on all sides: a wounded Russia bent on keeping its crumbling empire in place, a cyber genius fixated on Garrett, a femme fatale willing to do anything to establish a new world order. In the midst of this, Garrett must also confront his own demons: his class rage, growing paranoia, and a dependency that he cannot seem to shake. After all, it only takes one card to make the whole house fall… A hero with complete disregard for rules and boundaries, Drew Chapman’s rogue genius gives readers “a wild ride through the headlines of our times” (Kirkus Reviews on The Ascendant) and this sequel will not disappoint.

THE SWAT CYCLOPEDIA has been developed as a basic reference for this terminology as well as other state-of-the-art information associated with the police special weapons and tactics function. Within this source is a wide range of technical data pertaining to the tactical topics of training, equipment, deployment, operational strategies, slang, quotes, helpful hints and historical details, along with scores of other informative features. So that a more comprehensive understanding of the world of SWAT can be obtained, such topics as counter-terrorism, domestic terrorism, and international terrorism have also been included. In order to make the book more useful, many of the terms in the text have been cross-referenced. It will be of interest to police officers assigned to a SWAT team, as well as to those individuals who are interested in tactical response operations and what is involved in this law enforcement function. The manual encompasses certain administrative considerations that pertain to the organization and management of an agency's SWAT program, and therefore, it is also designed to provide particular assistance to the tactical commander seeking solutions or to the law enforcement executive who may be planning the incorporation of a special weapons and tactics unit within his or her agency.

With threats of war from all sides, I can't have the other Alphas barking down my throat to have an heir, to take a queen. So, I take matters into my own hands. When Jenny first arrived at the castle, I knew there was something special about her. But that's not why I chose her as my wife. It was out of convenience. At least, that's what I told myself. Now, the closer I get to her, the more I realize, I'm falling in love. Could this woman from another land be my mate? But that's impossible. My mother dreamt of my mate years ago, and her name isn't Jenny--it's Maddy. And there's no way that Jenny is actually Maddy--is there? Maybe everything I think I know about this meek woman who doesn't speak my language is a lie. Find out why over two million readers love The Alpha King's Breeder series!
