Book THE KING OF ALL LIARS

Download or read book THE KING OF ALL LIARS written by Teni Abegunde and published by Cataphrase MIAB. This book was released on 2018-07-30 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DESCRIPTION The King Of All Liars is a work of humorous fiction by author Teni Abegunde. This book is billed as the first ‘sit-down’ comedy, in the opposite sense to 'stand-up.' The approach is simple: you read the book as though its author was a stand-up comic delivering the lines to you in your own home. From early life to the here and now, Teni makes it clear that he wants the lazy life, and this book is a lazy, luxurious way to enjoy comedy without having to go out to a show. REVIEW “Teni Abegunde’s comedic style is mostly observational, and the book certainly feels like he is directly addressing an unseen audience in the stand-up comedy fashion. Some of the stories in The King Of All Liars are pretty incredulous, and others point out the very amusing and irritating parts of everyday life that we can all relate to.” —Readers’ Favorite FROM THE AUTHOR The concept of a sit-down comedy book evolved gradually. The idea started in high school during a regular hangout with my friends. I noticed that two girls who were visiting us that day weren't laughing at the jokes I'd been telling. Puzzled, I asked one of my friends if the girls were pregnant. "No, they’re not pregnant—they’re deaf," she replied. At first, I thought she was joking, but one of my other classmates confirmed it. Later that day, the two girls sent a note to me asking if I could write down what I’d said that had made everyone laugh. Though I didn’t mention in the note I sent back to them that I’d asked if they were pregnant, I did include a couple of things I said that were funny. The one-page joke I sent to those girls that day was the beginning of my sit-down comedy book. Many more notes followed as they kept on asking for more. These girls would later give me a name: “the Funny Hand of God.” I adopted the name quickly. It was better than the nickname my friends at school called me. You don’t want to know. Stand-up comedy has been around for many decades, and in that time many great comedians have emerged, keeping the tradition alive. These include: George Carlin, Steve Harvey, Lenny Bruce, Dave Chapelle and many more. Yet, out of millions of people who know these comedians from watching and listening to them, many have only known them by name, and by the books some of them authored. The best material from these comedians is only known to those who can hear them. A year ago at Dulles Airport, I met one of those girls who visited our school that day. She reignited the memories we shared together. I can’t describe the feelings I felt when she gestured that I am the funniest person she has ever known. From that moment on I decided I want to be known as the funniest comedian that never performed on stage. I want to deliver stand-up comedy inside a book. Someone has to do it. This is how the first sit-down comedy book came to be. And many more will follow. If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, check out The King Of All Liars. I promise, it won't disappoint you.

Book excerpt: John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed façade begin to crack. Work's troubled sister, her combative girlfriend, his gold digging socialite wife, and an unrequited lifelong love join a cast of small town characters that create no shortage of drama in this extraordinary, fast-paced suspense novel. Hart's mastery of prose and plot belie his newcomer status as he explores the true heart of a man. • ISBN : 1770890289

Download or read book Born Liars written by Ian Leslie and published by House of Anansi. This book was released on 2011-05-21 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lying is an intrinsic part of our social fabric, but it is also a deeply problematic and misunderstood aspect of what makes us human. Ian Leslie takes us on a fascinating journey that makes us question not only our own relationship to the truth, but also virtually every daily encounter we have. On the way he dissects the history of the lie detector, how parents affect their children’s attitude to lying (and vice versa), Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, the philosophical ambiguity of telling the truth, Bill Clinton’s presentational prowess, Wonder Woman’s lasso of truth, and why we should be wary of anyone with more than 150 Facebook friends. Born Liars is thought-provoking, anecdotally driven narrative nonfiction at its best. Ian Leslie’s intoxicating blend of anthropology, biology, cultural history, philosophy, and popular psychology belies a serious central message: that humans have evolved and thrived in large part because of their ability to deceive.

Book Disciples Literal New Testament

Download or read book Disciples Literal New Testament written by Michael Magill and published by Reyma Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If You Love God's Word You Will Love This New Testament! The Disciples' Literal New Testament sets you free from our artificial 460 year old chapter and verse structure, replacing it with paragraphing that reflects the flow of thought in the original Greek writings. Paragraph headings make that flow of thought explicit to you, speeding your understanding of the NT books. This translation retains the writing style of the apostles themselves, rather than transforming their Greek ways of writing into an elegant or contemporary English writing style, as has been beautifully done so many times. It is the same translation as the author's New Testament TransLine, first published by Zondervan in 2002. Now you can read the New Testament as the original writers intended it, and see it with a clarity formerly available only to those who could carefully study their Greek New Testament. You can even see the difference in writing style between Matthew, Mark and Luke! Used along with your standard Bible version, you will profit from both methods of translation. *Easily grasp the relationship of the whole and the parts of each book with the big-picture overview outlines that use the words of the original author. *Gain quick insight into the flow of thought from descriptive paragraph headings that summarize the main point of each paragraph in its context. *You can visually follow the apostles' thinking because the 'Intelligent Paragraphing' visually displays their main and subordinate thoughts. *The hindrance to your understanding caused by our artificial chapter and verse structure is eliminated by paragraphing based on the Greek writings. *You will more fully appreciate the minds and thinking patterns and intent of the original writers because the translation corresponds more closely to their words and their grammar and their sentence structure. *Deepen and expand your understanding of the New Testament by meditating on the notes containing alternative renderings, explanations of what is being said, and different views of the meaning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Glimpse of Galatians: By Grace Alone brings to life Paul the apostle and the Galatian church. It explores their tumultuous relationship, focusing on Pauls teachings on the absolute sufficiency of Gods grace to defeat death and bring eternal life to believers. Dr. Richard J. Dick Hill promises a glimpse, but offers a finely detailed picture of the richness of Pauls proclamation and of the persistent tendency of Christians to pervert the gospel of grace by bending it to their desires to bolster Gods saving work in Jesus Christ with their own efforts. By organizing the exploration of the themes in Galatians into ten chapters, A Glimpse of Grace offers readers a theological primer on topics like death, grace, law, the meaning of Christs sacrifice, baptism, faith, the contrast between law and grace, living in grace, and liberty. Each chapter digs deeply into Pauls letter to the Galatians, draws from his other writings and the rest of the New Testament, and critiques contemporary church practices. If you have wondered about death and life, law and grace, and the meaning of Christs death and resurrection for todays world, then let A Glimpse of Galatians: By Grace Alone lead you into the mind of Paul and present his spirited response to these deep questions. Armed with his teachings, you can equip yourself to recognize distortions of the gospel, see Gods grace at work, and follow the Holy Spirits lead to return to the truth.
