Book The Journey Through Cancer

Download or read book The Journey Through Cancer written by Jim Serritella and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ER doctor said, “Let’s take a chest x-ray just to be safe.” The results were simple, the sentence easily stated, and the next time period of life was about to be defined. “There is a white spot on the top right lung. You’d better have your doctor look at this!” That spot turned out to be lung cancer, and with that diagnosis Jim and Betty Serritella began a journey of tests and treatment on the road to becoming cancer-free. Fighting and winning the battle with cancer is a long and arduous process. You need a team of doctors and nurses you can trust, friends and loved ones to provide support, and lots of prayer. The Journey Through Cancer is a road map of the process Jim and Betty followed to battle Betty’s lung cancer. Jim wrote this book to help provide guidance for those on their own cancer journey, especially the caregivers and patient advocates, and to share lessons they learned along the way. “The Journey is a heartfelt personal account of struggle through the diagnosis, treatment and recovery of cancer. This book is not an oncology textbook written by a medical expert. This is a user’s guide written by an experienced caregiver intended to help other patients, caregivers and “team members” get a better understanding and insight into this most challenging process.” Dr. Neil Farber, MD, PhD, Associate. Professor “This book offers great spiritual, medical and practical guidance for the cancer patient, caregiver, relative of patient, friend of patient, and those working on the patient’s prayer chain. Please read it, and remember how each of us being treated need those daily naps, good nights of sleep, and the knowledge that our loved ones are in our corner at all times, supporting our effort to battle the disease, with prayer, good wishes, humor and the occasional good meal.” Cancer survivor - Daniel M. Gray, Attorney at Law, Falls Church, VA Jim Serritella is veteran of the US Air Force, and he spent more than fifty years in the world of systems, computers, and consulting. He is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post 171 of Damascus, Maryland, and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. His advice for those going through the cancer journey: Don’t stop asking questions. And don’t forget to pray for help and understanding in fighting a battle you cannot win alone.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Mike's story. And you know what? It's your story too. This is so much more than one man's battle with cancer. It's more than one man struggling to find meaning in suffering. It's more than one man's victory. This is for all of us. We all battle with something, we all struggle, we all wrestle and question, we all suffer. And we all can be victorious. Someday. So as you read the story that unfolds in the pages of this book please don't read it as a spectator. Walk this road too; make it your own journey, your own battle, your own quest to find the meaning in suffering, to find God when you feel alone, to find the Light in the midst of deep darkness. Make this your story. You may not have cancer, you may never have battled that particular monster . . . but you've battled a monster. You've struggled, you've prayed and argued with God and cried in His arms. You've suffered in some way. In March of 2008 Mike was diagnosed with colon cancer. He was thirty-five, healthy, married with three beautiful daughters. He was not a candidate for cancer. And yet, there it was. What you have here is a compilation of Mike's journaling interspersed with some other thoughts he's had since that awful, wonderful year. You'll find a chronological order of events from diagnosis to first doctor visits to surgery to chemo to more surgeries. It's all there. But more than a record of events you'll find a spiritual journey that will resonate with anyone who has been touched by a trial or suffering or sorrow or pain. There is brutal honesty in these pages. Because we've all been touched by suffering in one way or another, this book is valuable for anyone. Hopefully, you'll find some hope here, some joy, maybe some laughter, some enlightenment, some inspiration. And hopefully, through the story in these pages you'll come to see God in a different light.

Book Living Through Cancer

  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book Living Through Cancer written by Felix Paul and published by . This book was released on 2016-12-31 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of Living through Cancer: Memoirs of a Canvivor by Felix Paul is an updated version of the story of his cancer journey originally published in 2017. Diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2008, the author was treated with conventional therapies including surgery and chemotherapy which sent him into remission for about three and a half years. When the cancer returned in 2011, he was treated with surgery and chemotherapy again, whereupon he turned cancer-free a second time. About seven months later, there was yet another recurrence with his oncologist telling him that the cancer had now turned metastatic. The initial phase of the treatment suggested this time included surgery and radiation therapy which left the author exhausted. When, a little later, the oncologist suggested a follow-up 'just to be on the safe side' - intensive chemotherapy and targeted therapy to be precise - it turned out to be his proverbial last straw. Declining the oncologist's suggestion, he started looking for help from alternative medicine more in despair than in hope. When at long last he turned to naturopathy, little did he expect that the switchover to a healthy lifestyle would eventually put him back on the road to recovery. About eight years into the new lifestyle, Felix Paul is still cancer-free. The book reads like an adventure story with the author sharing his experiences and emotions, as also the valuable lessons he has learnt during the last twelve years of his cancer journey. Apart from the new lifestyle, what has obviously helped him emerge triumphant is his grit and determination to put his cancer behind once and for all. His message of hope and optimism as well as his suggestions on fighting this disease naturally will go a long way in enthusing patients and survivors to successfully navigate the challenges of living through cancer. The book includes ten chapters and a notes section that provides glosses of key terms and details of references cited in the book.
