Book Mass Spectrometry Based Glycoproteomics and Its Clinic Application

Download or read book Mass Spectrometry Based Glycoproteomics and Its Clinic Application written by Haojie Lu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one of the most extensive and important protein post-translational modifications, glycosylation plays very important roles in the organism and is associated with different physiological and pathological processes. Therefore, there has been increasing attention and need to characterize protein glycosylation sites, structures and their modification degree, in order to understand well their biological functions or look for potential biomarkers for disease diagnosis and treatment.Mass spectrometry (MS) is one of the most powerful tools to study biomolecules including glycoproteins and glycans. With the continuous development of glycoproteomics and glycomics based on MS analysis, more and more techniques have appeared and contribute to understanding the structure and function of glycoproteins and glycans. Therefore, this book demonstrates the progress that has been achieved in MS-based glycoproteomic analysis, including a wide range of analytical methodologies and strategies involved in selective enrichment, qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis and data analysis, together with their clinical applications. And some significant examples will be discussed to illustrate the principles, laboratory protocols and key implementation advice to ensure successful results. This book will serve as a valuable resource to appropriate techniques and their applications for students, postdocs, and researchers working in proteomics, glycoscience, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and clinical medicine, and so on.

Book Carbohydrate and Glycoconjugate Analysis

Download or read book Carbohydrate and Glycoconjugate Analysis written by Katherine N. Schumacher and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbohydrates and glycoconjugates play key roles in cellular processes, including signaling, immune response, and influencing protein stability and function. Advances in mass spectrometry (MS)-based methods for the investigation of glycosylation and oligosaccharide structure are being made, however due to the level of structural diversity and complexity of these biomolecules detailed characterization remains a challenge. This dissertation can be generally grouped into two sections; N-glycopeptide analysis and carbohydrate analysis.

Book Glycopeptides and Glycoproteins

Download or read book Glycopeptides and Glycoproteins written by Valentin Wittmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-02-13 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last 50 years molecular biology was dominated by the exploration of proteins and nucleic acids. Beside their role in energy metabolism, oligos- charides, which represent thethirdclass ofbiomacromolecules, have received less attention. Today it is well established that oligosaccharides are involved in many important biologicalregulation and recognition processes fromp- tein folding to cell-cell communication. Glycosylation of proteins is the most complexformofco-andposttranslationalmodi'cation. Thedeterminationof structure-function relationships, however, remains dif'cult due to the mic- heterogeneity of glycoproteins that exist in many different glycoforms. Thus chemical synthesis of glycoproteins and glycopeptides with de'ned glycan structures plays a pivotal role for the detailed determination of the role of protein glycosylation. This topic is covered by the ?rst two chapters of this bookdealingwiththechemicaland enzymatic synthesis ofglycopeptides and glycoproteins. The third chapter describes the construction of glycopeptide andglycoproteinmimetics containingnon-naturalstructuralelements. These so-calledneoglycopeptidesandneoglycoproteins,respectively,canprovide- sight on the importance of distinct structural elements on biological activity andmayhaveimproved propertiessuchasanincreased stability. Theappli- tion of synthetic glycopeptides, in many cases at the clinical level, as vaccines forbothcancerandHIVisthesubjectofthefourthchapter. Glycopeptide antibiotics are glycosylated secondary metabolites of bacteria and fungi that are synthesized by non-ribosomal peptide synthetases. Some of them serve as antibiotics of last resort in the treatment of nosocomial infections with enterococci and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. Their structure, biosynthesis, and mode of action are summarized in the ?fth chapter. The last chapter covers current methods for the determination of high-resolution structures of glycopeptides and glycoproteins mainly based onNMRspectroscopy, X-raycrystallography,and molecular modeling.

Book Glycoproteins I

    Book Details:
  • Author : J. Montreuil
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 1995-06-23
  • ISBN : 0080860893
  • Pages : 640 pages

Download or read book Glycoproteins I written by J. Montreuil and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-06-23 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part I covers modern advances in the determination of glycoprotein structure and in the biosynthesis of mammalian, bacterial, yeast, plant and insect glycoproteins. There are also two chapters on functional aspects (glycoprotein hormones and collagens). The content of the volume is very comprehensive in that, most contributors have focussed on discussing, in depth, the wealth of most recent advances in their field, and referring to previous reviews of older work for background information. This method can effectively produce a very wide subject coverage in a smaller number of chapters/volumes. The volume is an important information source for all glycobiologist researchers (senior investigators, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students), and as a good, comprehensive, reference text for scientists working in the life sciences.
