Book The Internationalization Process of Banks

Download or read book The Internationalization Process of Banks written by Mireille Ibrahim El-Khoury and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, companies act world-wide to gain success and increase the growth and profit. Nowadays, they need to do this to be competitive on the ever changing market. One of the most important things to have in mind when thinking of expanding to other countries is which entry mode to choose. There are several ways of entering a market and if you do it right you might be very successful, but if you do not spend time on this decision the internationalization process can become very short and the company can lose a lot of capital. With this thesis I want to investigate how BBAC bank, a Lebanese bank made its presence into the international market, which kind of entry modes it went for. In the thesis I have also gone in to the factors that have been of high importance when making the decision on why it chose the Iraqi market and also which kind of entry mode. My main findings after having made this thesis is that it was the profit and growth potential the was the main driving force for establishing on the Iraqi market, but also the short distance and the low costs of going in on the market, and even the know-how of the market in question and resources of the company have been important factors.

Book Building an International Financial Services Firm

Download or read book Building an International Financial Services Firm written by Markus Venzin and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-01-22 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new era of global banking and insurance is emerging, with leading banks eager to serve international markets. This book explores the issues that arise for banks in their strategic choices as they move into these new international markets. Building an International Financial Services Firm challenges conventional assumptions from the international management literature on topics such as the limits of globalization, the importance of cultural and institutional distance, the nature of economies of scale and scope, the existence of first mover advantages, the logic behind the global value chain configuration, the speed and timing of market entry, as well as organizational architecture. It focuses on fundamental strategic decisions such as when, where, and how to enter foreign markets and how to design the organizational architecture of the multinational financial services firm. Using simple theoretical frameworks illustrated by case examples, this book provides a thorough guide to the challenges of the international market for financial services firms, both for those working in the financial services industry, and researchers studying the area.

Book Internationalization Patterns of Swiss Private Banks

Download or read book Internationalization Patterns of Swiss Private Banks written by Fabienne Wengert and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study focused on the internationalization patterns of Swiss private banks. Having used a sample of eight Swiss private banks, their internationalization patterns were analyzed within a qualitative multiple case study according to expansion speed, entry order, and motives for their expansion moves. Furthermore, they were compared to the Uppsala Internationalization Model and Born Global approach. It is observed that, on an aggregated level, the internationalization patterns of the eight banks show strong similarities. The frequency of internationalization activities has grown incrementally over time. However, the main difference lies in the extent and speed that is often related to acquisition activities. Moreover, the internationalization processes were mostly initiated either in important financial centers in Western Europe or in North America, and have covered Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East. In the majority of cases, expansions into Asia and the Middle East followed that in Europe and the Americas. The patterns further show that, even though emerging markets have gained prominence, traditional European markets have also remained in focus throughout the internationalization process. The motives for the expansion moves are also of a similar nature. General market attractiveness has often been largely determined by legal issues as well as by the behavior of competitors. The motivation behind cooperation has often been related to collecting knowledge and building networks, while international acquisitions have been driven by, amongst other factors, a desire to complement current operations, accelerate market entry and improve economies of scale. Additionally, it has been found that the banks have largely followed a gradual internationalization pattern and used similar entry and market penetration strategies to establish a new market stepwise. Market commitments and resources have often been increased incremen.

Book excerpt: A Brookings Institution Press, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund publication The extensive reforms and liberalization of financial services in emerging markets worldwide call for cutting-edge strategies to capture the benefits of new investment opportunities. In Open Doors, a volume of papers from the third annual Financial Markets and Development conference, multidisciplinary financial sector experts analyze current economic and political trends and prescribe practical advice to the financial development community. The book addresses the key issues of concern regarding the emerging markets, including the trends, motivations, and scope of FDI in finance; policy options that will best capture the opportunities of foreign entry; and the role of foreign institutions in e-finance innovation. The authors focus on specific topics such as foreign participation in emerging market banking systems and securities industries, WTO policies and enforcement, the role of foreign banks, liberalization of insurance markets, the need for capital markets, and the policy, regulatory, and legal issues associated with e-finance. For policymakers and financial practitioners affected by the WTO's Financial Services Agreement, this timely book should be of particular interest. Book Renminbi Internationalization

Download or read book Renminbi Internationalization written by Barry Eichengreen and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2015-02-11 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Brookings Institution Press and Asian Development Bank Institute publication Meet the next global currency: the Chinese renminbi, or the "redback." Following the global financial crisis of 2008, China's major monetary policy objective is the internationalization of the renminbi, that is, to create an inter-national role for its currency akin to the international role currently played by the U.S. dollar. Renminbi internationalization is a hot topic, for good reason. It is, essentially, a window onto the Chinese government's aspirations and the larger process of economic and financial transformation. Making the renminbi a global currency requires rebalancing the Chinese economy, developing the country's financial markets and opening them to the rest of the world, and moving to a more flexible exchange rate. In other words, the internationalization of the renminbi is a monetary and financial issue with much broader supra-monetary and financial implications. This book offers a new perspective on the larger issues of economic, financial, and institutional change in what will eventually be the world's largest economy.
