This book was released on 2021-07 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This series of essays describes the various culturally based methods utilized by a number of Indigenous communities in North and South America and South Africa to recognize the knowledge and skills gained by individuals in their life's journey through both formal and informal educational settings. Portfolios are used as a vehicle to engage learners in an introspective process which, in Indigenous settings, enables them to value culture and identity, understand the impact and pervasiveness of colonialism, and become aware of their knowledge and skills in a more holistic context. For many learners, Indigenous Recognition of Prior Learning is a transformative process, which ultimately empowers them to identify a vision and pathway for changing their world." -Karihwakeron Thompson, chair, board of directors, International Indigenous RPL Collective Karihwakeron Thompson is from the bear clan family of the Mohawk Nation at Wahta Mohawk Territory and serves as the chair of the International Indigenous Recognition of Prior Learning Collective (IIRPLC). Book Global Perspectives on Recognising Non formal and Informal Learning

Download or read book Global Perspectives on Recognising Non formal and Informal Learning written by Madhu Singh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-05 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the relevance of recognition and validation of non-formal and informal learning education and training, the workplace and society. In an increasing number of countries, it is at the top of the policy and research agenda ranking among the possible ways to redress the glaring lack of relevant academic and vocational qualifications and to promote the development of competences and certification procedures which recognise different types of learning, including formal, non-formal and informal learning. The aim of the book is therefore to present and share experience, expertise and lessons in such a way that enables its effective and immediate use across the full spectrum of country contexts, whether in the developing or developed world. It examines the importance of meeting institutional and political requirements that give genuine value to the recognition of non-formal and informal learning; it shows why recognition is important and clarifies its usefulness and the role it serves in education, working life and voluntary work; it emphasises the importance of the coordination, interests, motivations, trust and acceptance by all stakeholders. The volume is also premised on an understanding of a learning society, in which all social and cultural groups, irrespective of gender, race, social class, ethnicity, mental health difficulties are entitled to quality learning throughout their lives. Overall the thrust is to see the importance of recognising non-formal and informal learning as part of the larger movement for re-directing education and training for change. This change is one that builds on an equitable society and economy and on sustainable development principles and values such as respect for others, respect for difference and diversity, exploration and dialogue.

Book Assessment Strategies for Online Learning

Download or read book Assessment Strategies for Online Learning written by Dianne Conrad and published by Athabasca University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-15 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessment has provided educational institutions with information about student learning outcomes and the quality of education for many decades. But has it informed practice and been fully incorporated into the learning cycle? Conrad and Openo argue that the potential inherent in many of the new learning environments being explored by educators and students has not been fully realized. In this investigation of a variety of assessment methods and learning approaches, the authors aim to discover the tools that engage learners and authentically evaluate education. They insist that moving to new learning environments, specifically those online and at a distance, afford opportunities for educators to adopt only the best practices of traditional face-to-face assessment while exploring evaluation tools made available by a digital learning environment in the hopes of arriving at methods that capture the widest set of learner skills and attributes.

Book Handbook of Vocational Education and Training

Download or read book Handbook of Vocational Education and Training written by Simon McGrath and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook brings together and promotes research on the area of vocational education and training (VET). It analyzes current and future economic and labor market trends and relates these to likely implications for vocational education and training. It questions how VET engages with the growing power of human development approaches and with the sustainable development agenda. Equity and inclusion are discussed in a range of ways by the authors and the consideration of the construction of these terms is an important element of the handbook. It further addresses both the overall notion of system reform, at different scales, and what is known about particular technologies of systems reform across a variety of settings. Vocational learning and VET teacher/trainer education are discussed from a comparative perspective. National and comparative experiences are also shared on questions of equity and efficiency in funding in terms of those that fund and are funded, and for a range of funding methodologies. As well as reviewing existing gaps, this handbook is looking forward in identifying promising new directions in research and environment.
