This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2017 in the subject History - Asia, , language: English, abstract: It is historical fact that all development and cultural development of societies is due to science and innovations. The fact is that with inventions of science, man’s life has become easier and more comfortable. But with this easiness and comforts, negative use of Science has created problems for human beings also. Anyhow, Science has given prediction power to human beings about diseases and seasons also. Similarly, due to science and technology, every one can know about the other who is thousands miles away sitting from this one. And now emails are sent with in the click of the button on the computer which is attached with internet. Therefore, now emails have taken place instead of mails and e-books are being used instead of books. This hardness to softness has changed man because now man can have thousands books in their flash. With these advantages, now money can be easily sent within few seconds. With uncountable innovations of science and technology, there are some problems also arose because of misuse or negligence of side-effects of modern technology. In short, it may be stated that all developments of science and technology may be sustained and all negative impacts may be removed through proper use of scientific knowledge and modern technology.

Book Trading of Space Technology and the Role of International Cooperation

Download or read book Trading of Space Technology and the Role of International Cooperation written by Ujwala Iyengar and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Climate catastrophe, natural disasters, public health epidemic and financial crisis have altered human perception of essential resources and technology. In the realm of space law, this discourse leads us to the utilization of space resources procured from celestial bodies through space technologies in order to address modern challenges through futuristic solutions. Space technologies remain the fundamental block of outer space exploration determining which participant shall have the functional access to outer space vis-a-visa its benefits. However, the predicament is that space technologies have the tendency of being monopolized as they are capital intensive, requiring substantial investment to support their research & development, leaving technologically advanced space faring nations with little to no incentive to share their technologies. In space law, the Outer Space Treaty (OST) is one of the core legal instruments amongst the five United Nations Space Treaties, which bases it bases itself on the principle of cooperation with respect to the use and exploration of outer space. While the OST ensures freedom of exploration, it does not guarantee equality in the functional access to outer space. This ambiguity in law raises uncertainty amongst States that desire access to space through the sharing of space technologies. Additionally, the other United Nations Space Treaties have failed to provide States with substantive prohibitions against political, economic or strategic discrimination, in particular with regards to functional access to outer space and space technologies. This thesis explores the socio-economic impacts of limiting access to space technology innovation to a small number of privileged users, and highlights the potential of achieving immense well-being by making space technology widely available through a pluralistic and inclusive platform. The research also proposes to understand the historical and socio-political elements that condition the currently limited access to space technology innovation and then, seeks to evaluate and suggest methods that can be adopted to enhance accessibility of these specific space technologies by adopting affirmative policies, ultimately, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Lastly, this thesis adopts an intersectional approach and necessitates the denunciation of the Westphalian model of international law that currently dominates the governance of outer space, highlighting the need for a cosmopolitan and inclusive approach that builds upon the concept of 'collective humanity'. The 'essence' of this thesis is - evolution and survivability. To not just show there exists a "common good" in the research but to show tangible and quantifiable results that can help achieve SDGs. Discussion regarding this issue is of the utmost importance because it is critical to the facilitation of human survival and offers immense opportunities for well-being"--

Book Mission Oriented Finance for Innovation

Download or read book Mission Oriented Finance for Innovation written by Mariana Mazzucato and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-03-06 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of the state in modern capitalism has gone beyond fixing market failures. Those regions and countries that have succeeded in achieving “smart” innovation-led growth have benefited from long-term visionary “mission-oriented” policies—from putting a man on the moon to tackling societal challenges such as climate change and the wellbeing of an ageing population. This book collects the experience of different types of mission-oriented public institutions around the world, together with thought-provoking chapters from leading economists. As the global debate on deficits and debt levels continues to roar, the book offers a challenge to the conventional narrative—asking what kinds of visionary fiscal policies we need to help promote "smart” innovation-led, inclusive, and sustainable growth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the Global Space Governance study commissioned by the 2014 Montreal Declaration that called upon civil society, academics, governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders to undertake an international interdisciplinary study. The study took three years to complete. It examines the drivers of space regulations and standards, key regulatory problems, and especially addresses possible improvements in global space governance. The world's leading experts led the drafting of chapters, with input from academics and knowledgeable professionals in the public and private sectors, intergovernmental organizations, and nongovernmental organizations from all the regions of the world with over 80 total participants. This book and areas identified for priority action are to be presented to the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and it is hoped will be considered directly or indirectly at the UNISPACE+50 event in Vienna, Austria, in 2018. The report, a collective work of all the contributors, includes objective analysis and frank statements expressed without pressure of political, national, and occupational concerns or interest. It is peer-reviewed and carefully edited to ensure its accuracy, preciseness, and readability. It is expected that the study and derivative recommendations will form the basis for deliberations and decisions at international conferences and meetings around the world on the theme of global space governance. This will hopefully include future discussion at the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Book The Dark Side of Innovation

Download or read book The Dark Side of Innovation written by Alex Coad and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a reaction to popular assumptions that innovation is always a force for good. While the popular press and politicians often take the view that "the more innovation, the better", the chapters in this edited volume reflect on the harmful effects of innovation on society and the environment. The book begins with a broad discussion of the dark side of innovation, followed by contributions by various experts in the area. It is a critical reply to the innovation optimists, complementing the list of indicators that show steady human progress with a list of indicators that show sustained deterioration (largely due to innovation). The volume outlines some relevant dimensions of harmful innovation, before distinguishing between the types of harm brought on by innovation. The various contributed chapters focus on the following themes: a bibliometric analysis of the scientific literature on the harmful consequences of innovation; harmful side-effects from solar photovoltaic waste; harmful consequences of process innovations on working practices in areas such as accountancy; the difficulties of transferring innovations from research to practice in clinical healthcare; and the harmful consequences of social innovations. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal Industry and Innovation.

The rapid innovation of technology has made it possible to develop, launch and operate small satellites at rather low costs. Universities, start-ups and also governments see the chance to access outer space more easily and inexpensively. Yet, the importance to comply with existing rules and regulations that are in place to ensure that outer space is used and explored in a safe and responsible manner is sometimes overlooked. The book addresses this challenge and shows how it can be met. The contributors are renowned academics and practicioners from many different countries that share their experiences and insights and suggest practical solutions.

Book Rocket Dreams

  • Author : Marina Benjamin
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2003-05-25
  • ISBN : 0743254171
  • Pages : 257 pages

Download or read book Rocket Dreams written by Marina Benjamin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2003-05-25 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1958, mankind's centuries-long flirtation with space flight became a torrid love affair. For a decade, tens of millions of people were enraptured -- first, by the U.S.-Soviet race to the moon, and finally, as America outstripped its rival, by Project Apollo alone. It is now more than three decades since the last man walked on the moon...more time than between the first moonwalk and the beginning of World War II. Apollo did not, as had been promised by a generation of visionaries, herald the beginning of the Space Age, but its end. Or did it? Project Apollo, like a cannonball, reached its apogee and returned to earth, but the trajectory of that return was complex. America's atmosphere -- its economic, scientific, and cultural atmosphere -- made for a very complicated reentry that produced many solutions to the trajectory problem. Rocket Dreams is about those solutions...about the places where the space program landed. In Rocket Dreams, an extraordinarily talented young writer named Marina Benjamin will take you on a journey to those landing sites. A visit with retired astronauts at a celebrity autograph show is a starting point down the divergent paths taken by the pioneers, including Edgar Mitchell, founder of the "church" of Noëtic Sciences. Roswell, New Mexico is a landing site of a different order, the "magnetic north" of UFO belief in the United States -- a belief that began its most dramatic growth precisely at the time that the path of the space program began its descent. In the vernacular, the third law of motion states that what goes up, must come down. Thus the tremendous motive force that energized the space program didn't just vanish; it was conserved and transformed, making bestsellers out of fantasy literature, spawning Gaia, and giving symbolism to the environmental movement. Everything from the pop cultural boom in ufology to the worldwide Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) feeds on the energy given off by America's leap toward space. Rocket Dreams is an eloquent tour of this Apollo-scarred landscape. It is also an introduction to some of the most fascinating characters imaginable: Some long dead, like the crackpot visionary Alfred Lawson, who saw in space flight a new stage of human evolution ("Alti-Man"), or Robert Goddard, the father of rocketry, whose workshop in Roswell stands only half a mile from shops selling posters of alien visitors. Others are very much alive -- like Stewart Brand, creator of the Whole Earth Catalog and partner with Gerard O'Neill in the drive to build free-floating space colonies, and SETI astronomer Seth Shostak, who has spent decades listening to the skies, hoping for the first contact with another intelligent species. Perceptive, original, and wonderfully written, informed by history, science, and an acute knowledge of popular culture, Rocket Dreams is a brilliant book by a remarkable talent.
