Book Ramblings of a Mad Outlaw

Download or read book Ramblings of a Mad Outlaw written by Batch G. Brennan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-05-14 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you have ever asked questions like What is reality? What do we actually know for sure? What is the truth? What is life?(other than just the name of a magazine that was published for many years), then these ramblings will be of interest. These ramblings offer a unique personal view of human life that engages the reader in an eclectic mix of four diverse points of view. Using a stream of consciousness-type style, the author draws on his reflection about his need for human connection; his passion for the creative arts, including music, literature, and painting; his understanding of human physiology, mental health, philosophy, science, and Buddhist thinking; and his experiences with sailing, individual competitive sports, and coaching. The work is divided into two sections. The first simply leads the reader through a labyrinth of symbols, facts, and perceptions that led to an essential beginning and end, where all is one and one is all. The second section offers some strategies for developing self-awareness and experiencing life differently. The object of the exercise of reading, thinking, reflecting, and possibly making notes to become more connected by being disconnected, by being the same but different, and by fitting by not fitting.

Book excerpt: “I don't think I'm easy to talk about. I've got a very irregular head. And I'm not anything that you think I am anyway.”—Syd Barrett’s last interview, Rolling Stone, 1971 Roger Keith “Syd” Barrett (1946–2006) was, by all accounts, the very definition of a golden boy. Blessed with good looks and a natural aptitude for painting and music, he was a charismatic, elfin child beloved by all, who fast became a teenage leader in Cambridge, England, where a burgeoning bohemian scene was flourishing in the early 1960s. Along with three friends and collaborators—Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason—he formed what would soon become Pink Floyd, and rock ’n’ roll was never the same. Starting as a typical British cover band aping approximations of American rhythm ’n’ blues, they soon pioneered an entirely new sound, and British psychedelic rock was born. With early, trippy, Barrett-penned pop hits such as “Arnold Layne” (about a clothesline-thieving cross-dresser) and “See Emily Play” (written specifically for the epochal “Games For May” concert), Pink Floyd, with Syd Barrett as their main creative visionary, captured the zeitgeist of “Swinging” London in all its Technicolor glory. But there was a dark side to all this new-found freedom. Barrett, like so many around him, began ingesting large quantities of a revolutionary new drug, LSD, and his already-fragile mental state—coupled with a personality inherently unsuited to the life of a pop star—began to unravel. The once bright-eyed lad was quickly replaced, seemingly overnight, by a glowering, sinister, dead-eyed shadow of his former self, given to erratic, highly eccentric, reclusive, and sometimes violent behavior. Inevitably sacked from the band, Barrett retreated from London to his mother’s house in Cambridge, where he would remain until his death, only rarely seen or heard, further fueling the mystery. In the meantime, Pink Floyd emerged from the underground to become one of the biggest international rock bands of all time, releasing multi-platinum albums, many that dealt thematically with the loss of their friend Syd Barrett: The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall are all, on many levels, about him. In A Very Irregular Head, journalist Rob Chapman lifts the veil of secrecy that has surrounded the legend of Syd Barrett for nearly four decades, drawing on exclusive access to family, friends, archives, journals, letters, and artwork to create the definitive portrait of a brilliant and tragic artist. Besides capturing all the promise of Barrett’s youthful years, Chapman challenges the oft-held notion that Barrett was a hopelessly lost recluse in his later years, and creates a portrait of a true British eccentric who is rightfully placed within a rich literary lineage that stretches through Kenneth Graham, Hilaire Belloc, Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, John Lennon, David Bowie, and on up to the pioneers of Britpop. A tragic, affectionate, and compelling portrait of a singular artist, A Very Irregular Head will stand as the authoritative word on this very English genius for years to come.

Book Mysticism in Newburyport

Download or read book Mysticism in Newburyport written by Peter James Ford and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2021-08-05 with total page 966 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second book of lighthearted tales in this seven-book series, under the title: “MYSTICISM IN NEWBURYPORT.” This is the personal journey of just another soul re-awakening to his divinity in this lifetime and reuniting with his true self. Peter was to have many profound spiritual experiences along the Merrimac River in Newburyport, Massachusetts. So, to honor this unique, historic seaport, he has chosen to use this title for his seven-book series on his continued journey of awakening. These personal accounts of Peter’s journey are more of an individual perspective of life, rather than any particular location. ‘Book One’ was introduced at the Miami International Book Fair as a modern-day version of the Herman Hesse classic novel called: “SIDDHARTHA.” After a profound spiritual awakening, through the grace of a Meditation Master, Peter was to personally have the experiences from long nights along the river in meditation, that the fictional character had experienced in Herman’s classic novel. These writings are really a ‘Unique School of Thought’ from Peter’s insights through Nature. As in Newburyport where the river revealed all its secrets. Now, the shifting sands of the Southern Maine coast are revealing its secrets for book two. Peter feels blessed as the treasures from Nature are so abundant in New England coast and in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. After growing up in Lynn, Mass, where Peter was involved with heavy alcohol consumption, sixties drug use, arrests, broken bones, violence, motorcycle crashes and high-speed chases. Peter realized a deep love for motorcycles and physical training during his early years. Peter was to end up in the 12-step program at nineteen years old. He entered the program over fifty-years ago in March 1970, and almost immediately had a spiritual awakening. There is a difference between a spiritual awakening and a spiritual experience. On Peter’s path he was to experience both; as did the founder of the first 12-step program. Seven years sober, Peter was in deep emotional and mental pain (experiencing despair) and from this pain (pain is the touchstone of spiritual growth), he was to have his first spiritual experience. Peter now knew deep in his heart that God was actually The Intelligence Behind Nature and also that this intelligence was in his every cell of his body, as it is the giver of all life. It was around twenty-five years sober that Peter’s older brother introduced him to a Meditation Master, who was to become his guide at these higher levels of understanding and evolvement. Peter has said: “That the more he learned about the Ancient Universal Principles, the less he felt he knew.” Peter said: “It is kind of humorous that when you actual attain something worthwhile, what goes along with it is humility, just another soul on the path; another bozo on the bus.” Best Wishes on Your Personal Journey.
