Download or read book The Road to Enlightenment written by Yogmata Keiko Aikawa and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Road to Enlightenment, Yogmata Keiko Aikawa shares her own experiences and the wisdom she’s gained from her forty-five-year study of yoga, meditation, and healing arts. Her hope is that readers will find answers to their questions about how to live a true and happy life in the spirit of love and peace. Yogmata Keiko Aikawa’s interest in yoga began in Japan when she was in her teens. During the 1970s, she traveled throughout India, visiting countless yoga schools; and then continued her studies in the U.S. and other Western countries for the next decade. In 1985, Aikawa met the legendary master Pilot Baba, who, in turn, introduced her to his teacher, the great sage Hari Baba. She then embarked on an austere and rigorous training program in the Himalayas. It was during this period that Yogmata Keiko Aikawa achieved samadhi, which she describes as "the highest goal of life. It means to reach the essence of the source that brings success to all, such as health, beauty, business, world peace, natural balance, and ultimately complete enlightenment." For over forty years, Yogmata Keiko Aikawa has dedicated herself to helping humanity by working tirelessly to spread the wisdom and insights she’s gained through her studies. She has set up a foundation to support her work, as well as many charitable causes, and she teaches others the way of peace and love, meditation, and samadhi.

Download or read book Tarot and the Path of Initiation written by Henry Ho and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book came into being from the author's exasperation at the ignorance of many users of the Thoth tarot deck. They prefer to go by their "intuition" rather than study Crowley's companion book to the deck, The Book of Thoth. "It's too dense" they cry. "I'm not interested in these philosophies; I just want to read Tarot." The above sentence is the greatest insult to Aleister Crowley, the creator of the Thoth deck. For the deck's purpose was to convey the higher mysteries to the diviner. Crowley intended for the deck never to be sold separately from the Book of Thoth. And so, heart full of elitist snobbery and sense of obligation to Crowley, the author of this book set out to spoon feed this dense material to the masses, without watering down its contents. In the spirit of Crowley who sought to enlighten the world, the author has added his own contribution to Crowley's legacy, out of duty. It was due to Crowley's belief in freedom of information, during an era of politics and secrecy, that the author was able to get his own hands on the gem of all spiritual writing, the Book of Thoth.

Download or read book Breaking Open the Head written by Daniel Pinchbeck and published by Crown. This book was released on 2003-08-12 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dazzling work of personal travelogue and cultural criticism that ranges from the primitive to the postmodern in a quest for the promise and meaning of the psychedelic experience. While psychedelics of all sorts are demonized in America today, the visionary compounds found in plants are the spiritual sacraments of tribal cultures around the world. From the iboga of the Bwiti in Gabon, to the Mazatecs of Mexico, these plants are sacred because they awaken the mind to other levels of awareness--to a holographic vision of the universe. Breaking Open the Head is a passionate, multilayered, and sometimes rashly personal inquiry into this deep division. On one level, Daniel Pinchbeck tells the story of the encounters between the modern consciousness of the West and these sacramental substances, including such thinkers as Allen Ginsberg, Antonin Artaud, Walter Benjamin, and Terence McKenna, and a new underground of present-day ethnobotanists, chemists, psychonauts, and philosophers. It is also a scrupulous recording of the author's wide-ranging investigation with these outlaw compounds, including a thirty-hour tribal initiation in West Africa; an all-night encounter with the master shamans of the South American rain forest; and a report from a psychedelic utopia in the Black Rock Desert that is the Burning Man Festival. Breaking Open the Head is brave participatory journalism at its best, a vivid account of psychic and intellectual experiences that opened doors in the wall of Western rationalism and completed Daniel Pinchbeck's personal transformation from a jaded Manhattan journalist to shamanic initiate and grateful citizen of the cosmos.
Download or read book Celebrating Christian Initiation written by Simon Jones and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2016-04-20 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on research carried out as part of the Baptism Project, and making helpful connections with popular catechetical material from sources such as Pilgrim, Simon Jones considers how, where, and for whom rites of Christian initiation are celebrated, and how baptism has been rediscovered as fundamental to the Church’s identity and mission. Very little has been written recently about the celebration of rites of Christian initiation. Focussing primarily on the material in Common Worship (including the new texts for baptism) as well as drawing on other liturgical traditions, this book fills the gap with a concise yet comprehensive treatment that takes full account of the latest needs and developments.
Download or read book Meditation and the Initiation Process Vol 6 of A Treatise on Mind written by Bodo Balsys and published by Universal Dharma Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-08 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides practical background information and teachings on meditation primarily for a Western audience. Through meditation, compassionately focused actions, and group sharing the Heart centre is awakened and Bodhicitta is manifested. For this to occur the development of wisdom is essential. The associated process concerning the path of Initiation into the Mysteries of being/non-being, and the planetary Head centre (Shambhala) shall be provided. The subtleties of the Initiation path will be revealed through an esoteric interpretation of passages from the Bible, as the New Testament constitutes a major text on this subject. This philosophy is complimentary to the Buddhist foundation presented in the previous volumes of this series.
Download or read book Ceasefire Agreements and Peace Processes written by Malin Akebo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses and compares ceasefire agreements as part of peace processes in intrastate armed conflicts. Research repeatedly underscores the importance of ceasefire agreements in peace processes but suggests that they can influence such processes in fundamentally different ways. However, despite contradictory expectations, remarkably few studies have so far been devoted to systematic and in-depth analysis of ceasefire agreements in contemporary intrastate armed conflicts. This book contributes to filling this gap by using a process-oriented conflict dynamics approach to analyse and explain how ceasefire agreements are being influenced by and in turn influences the broader dynamics of peace processes. Empirically, the book focuses on the armed conflicts in Aceh (Indonesia) and Sri Lanka. Based on document studies and 57 interviews with key actors, it presents comparative insights and in-depth knowledge about ceasefire agreements in different contextual settings. The book problematizes the common assumption in the literature that ceasefire agreements create momentum in peace processes and pave the way to peace, and it provides a more nuanced analysis and understanding based on two empirical cases analysed within a comparative framework. In contrast to conventional wisdom, it demonstrates how ceasefires on the contrary also can have negative implications on peace processes. This book will be of much interest to students of conflict resolution, peace studies, intra-state conflict, security studies and IR in general.
