Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explore a story told across the millennia that delves deep into a pair of fascinating necron characters, their relationship and their plans for the galaxy. Before the being called the Emperor revealed Himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence.Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts – and people – of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future. But when an artefact emerges that may hold the key to the necrons’ next evolution, these two obsessives enter a multi-millennia game of cat and mouse that ends civilisations, reshapes timelines, and changes both forever. As riddles unwind and ancient secrets are revealed, the question remains: will their feud save the necron race or destroy it?

Book The Secret of the Universe

Download or read book The Secret of the Universe written by Nathan R. Wood and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-02-04 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit reflected and expressed in the trinities of space, matter, and time is the secret of the universe. It is the key to the many riddles of the universe. It shows why things are as they are, and that they did not happen so. It shows why space is what it is, of three dimensions. It shows why matter is what it is, of energy, motion, and phenomena, with all their relationships. It shows why time is as it is, composed of future, present, and past. It shows why man is made as he is. It may show the great principle of unity in all things. It should illuminate the relationship of space, matter, and time. It may well cast light on the mysterious principles of existence, of change, and of reality, in the universe. The being of God, as the central fact of the universe, may explain these universal things. It may make them clear, not as we ourselves paradoxically try to make mysteries clear, by involved effort, and intricacies of thought, and abstruse analysis, but by the broad, self-evident fact of the Trinity.

Book excerpt: We have discussed the concepts of eternity, evil, time, witchcraft, evolution, spirits, science and religion. The only conclusion is what we previously said of Aristotle, Greek philosopher, hundreds of years B.C.: "The only thing I know is that I don't know ". We would only hope that what another greater Thinker once said, is true, that there is the existence of an eternal reward in "Nirvana", "Heaven", or "after-life". In this earth, the Alpha and the Omega are shielded from our eyes, perhaps for our own good. Maybe our life is a kind of a training film, or as a proving grounds, to test our good from our unworthy traits. Many stories are told about people who have almost passed to the "other side", and come back to relate what they have seen. These people have no collusion, but all have a common thread: a light, a tunnel, a great expectation. Let us "hope" that their "faith" can lead to our greatest desire, that the Being that gave us these longings has the "charity" to not let it all end here. History repeats itself they say. But in order to be "gods", we will have to be as holy as "Buddha". Remember the Commandment "I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have strange gods before me. The greatest sin was Lucifer's, the sin of Pride. Let us realize that whatever was the cause, Somebody wanted to share creation with us and communicate. The Word was God, and dwelt among us. We have noted that there are explanations of the infinite from people like Confucius, Buddha, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Galileo, Newton, Goethe, Heisenberg, Einstein, and lately, Hawking. But only one Person has all the answers - JESUS

Book Mystery of Man and the Universe

Download or read book Mystery of Man and the Universe written by Neduntheru S. Kannan and published by . This book was released on 2010-10-20 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vedanta has the reputation, not entirely undeserved, of being a difficult subject. No less egregious is the reputation of mathematics and physics. All the same, the questions that engage the Vedantin are of interest to the mathematicians and the physicists, who are equally curious about the universe we are in. How do we describe the pattern of frost on a window pane, cracks in metal or the gradient of a bumpy mountain path? What shape is that of a cloud? How long is the coastline of an island? The answer is fractals. It is complex and it is infinite; such is the story of man trying to grapple with the mystery of his physical mortality wrapped in the deeper mystery of the universe. The voyage of discovery as played out in the lives of philosophers and physicists is deeply human and belies the stereotype of the scientist guided only by rationality and objectivity. In this work, the author wades through between the quantum mysteries of Schrodinger's cat on the one hand and the pitfalls of pseudo sciences on the other and reaches out to Vedanta and succeeds in demystifying it to a large extent, although even today this field is viewed as an elitist domain or an arcane high priest's obsession. Although a natural sequel to his earlier monograph On Divine Sovereignty and Our Freedom published in 2004, this one breaks fresh ground and fields the posers, whether from the physicist or the neuroscientist. Science and religion are often viewed as polar opposites or parallel universes, but the really great thinkers do not think so. The reader who has the patience to read through fully is bound to find that the world of Vedanta is not such a scary, alien place after all.

  • Author : Clyde Lee Miller

Download or read book Reading Cusanus written by Clyde Lee Miller and published by Catholic University of America Press. This book was released on 2019-01-25 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents readings of six of the most important theoretical works of Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1463). Though Nicholas's writings have long been studied as either scholastic Aristotelian or proto-Kantian, Miller locates Cusanus squarely in the Christian Neoplatonic tradition. He demonstrates how Nicholas worked on his own original synthesis of that tradition by fashioning a conjectural view of main categories of Christian thought: God, the universe, Jesus Christ and human beings. Each reading reveals how Nicholas's project of learned ignorance is played out in striking metaphors for God and the relation of God to creation. The six works read span the last quarter of Nicholas's life (1440-1463) and include On Learned Ignorance, Conjectures, The Layman - About Mind, The Vision of God, The Not Other and The Hunt of Wisdom. These readings are explications of the text; they interpret each work as a whole and focus in particular on the themes that order the work and how these get played out in its details.

Book Transcendence and History

Download or read book Transcendence and History written by Glenn Hughes and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transcendence and History is an analysis of what philosopher Eric Voegelin described as “the decisive problem of philosophy”: the dilemma of the discovery of transcendent meaning and the impact of this discovery on human self-understanding. The world’s major religious and wisdom traditions are built upon the recognition of transcendent meaning, and our own cultural and linguistic heritage has long since absorbed the postcosmological division of reality into the two dimensions of “transcendence” and “immanence.” But the last three centuries in the West have seen a growing resistance to the idea of transcendent meaning; contemporary and “postmodern” interpretations of the human situation—both popular and intellectual—indicate a widespread eclipse of confidence in the truth of transcendence. In Transcendence and History, Glenn Hughes contributes to the understanding of transcendent meaning and the problems associated with it, assisting in the philosophical recovery of the legitimacy of the notion of transcendence. Depending primarily on the treatments of transcendence found in the writings of twentieth-century philosophers Eric Voegelin and Bernard Lonergan, Hughes explores the historical discovery of transcendent meaning and then examines what it indicates about the structure of history. Hughes’s main focus, however, is on clarifying the problem of transcendence in relation to historical existence. Addressing both layreaders and scholars, Hughes applies the insights and analyses of Voegelin and Lonergan to considerable advantage. Transcendence and History will be of particular value to those who have grappled with the notion of transcendence in the study of philosophy, comparative religion, political theory, history, philosophical anthropology, and art or poetry. By examining transcendent meaning as the key factor in the search for ultimate meaning from ancient societies to the present, the book demonstrates how “the decisive problem of philosophy” both illuminates and presents a vital challenge to contemporary intellectual discourse.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science has now demonstrated without a doubt that we live in an “unfinished universe.” Discoveries in geology, biology, cosmology and other fields of scientific inquiry have shown that the cosmos has a narrative character and that the story is far from over. The sense of a universe that is still coming into being provides a fertile new framework for thinking about the relationship of faith to science. John F. Haught argues that if we take seriously the fact that the universe is a drama still unfolding, we can think new thoughts about God, and indeed about all the perennial themes of theology. Science's recent realization that the universe is dramatic, however, has yet to penetrate deeply into either spiritual or intellectual life. Most Christian thought and spirituality still presuppose an essentially static universe while influential academic and intellectual culture remains stuck in a stagnant materialist naturalism and cosmic pessimism. Resting on the Future asks about the meaning of an unfinished universe from the point of view of both Christian theology and contemporary intellectual life. Each chapter covers a distinct aspect of what Haught takes to be an essential transition to a new age in Catholic life and thought. Biology, cosmology, and other fields of science now provide the setting for a wholesome transformation of Catholic thought from a still predominantly pre-scientific to a more hopeful and scientifically informed vision of God, humanity and the natural world.
