This book was released on 2012-07-04 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today we will also examine what changes the law is imposing on employer-sponsored health care plans. This committee has broad jurisdiction over health insurance provided through the workplace, coverage that affects roughly 170 million Americans. By the administration's own estimates, up to 69 percent of all business health plans and 80 percent, 80 percent of small business health plans will soon see significant changes to the benefits they provide. This has a potential to undermine the health care coverage of tens of millions of Americans. We need to understand what those changes are and how insurers, employers and individuals are responding.

This book was released on 2003-02-01 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The anthrax incidents following the 9/11 terrorist attacks put the spotlight on the nation's public health agencies, placing it under an unprecedented scrutiny that added new dimensions to the complex issues considered in this report. The Future of the Public's Health in the 21st Century reaffirms the vision of Healthy People 2010, and outlines a systems approach to assuring the nation's health in practice, research, and policy. This approach focuses on joining the unique resources and perspectives of diverse sectors and entities and challenges these groups to work in a concerted, strategic way to promote and protect the public's health. Focusing on diverse partnerships as the framework for public health, the book discusses: The need for a shift from an individual to a population-based approach in practice, research, policy, and community engagement. The status of the governmental public health infrastructure and what needs to be improved, including its interface with the health care delivery system. The roles nongovernment actors, such as academia, business, local communities and the media can play in creating a healthy nation. Providing an accessible analysis, this book will be important to public health policy-makers and practitioners, business and community leaders, health advocates, educators and journalists.

Book Migration of Health Workers

Download or read book Migration of Health Workers written by World Health Organization and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The adoption by WHO's Member States of the Global Code of Practice in the International Recruitment of Health Personnel, and the implementation of it by so many countries, represent two of the biggest steps in recent years towards solving the shortage of health-care workers around the world. The countries' response has been a momentous achievement. Now, a third big step is being taken with the publication of this book. It underlines WHO's unwavering commitment to supporting the implementation of the Code and provides a wide range of detailed examples from the countries themselves of how they are tackling the many complex issues involved. It provides not just numerous insights into progress but also gives other countries valuable guidance and recommendations on how they, too, can implement the Code. Countries are encouraged to learn from the shared experiences, domestic solutions and multi-lateral cooperation described in this book, and move ahead to support and advance the Code's aspirational principles. By doing so, they also strengthen the campaign towards Universal Health Care -- a campaign that requires innovative solutions to the health workforce shortage in order to be successful. The crux of the Code is the development of human resources for health through all aspects of education, improved retention and fair recruitment practices while encouraging technical collaboration and financial support. WHO is playing a leading role in these initiatives and stands ready to assist all its Member States in implementing the Code. We strongly recommend this book to health policy-makers and decision-takers in governments, nongovernmental organizations and other partners and stakeholders, including civil society. They will find it an indispensable guide to a better future for health-care personnel and the people they serve.

Book The Political Economy of Health Care Reforms

Download or read book The Political Economy of Health Care Reforms written by Huizhong Zhou and published by W.E. Upjohn Institute. This book was released on 2001 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zhou presents a collection of papers that are based on lectures presented at the 36th Annual Public Lecture-Seminar Series conducted by his Department of Economics at Western Michigan University. The six chapters explore Medicare reform, managed care and its effect on the health care system, efforts to cover the uninsured, the effect of health insurance on labor market and employment decisions, and the role of tax policy in health care. The contributions largely limit themselves to analysis of existing institutions and eschew broad proscriptions for the American health-care system. c. Book News Inc.

Book The Impact of Employer Sponsored Health Insurance on Labor Market Outcomes

Download or read book The Impact of Employer Sponsored Health Insurance on Labor Market Outcomes written by Avantika Kapoor and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US does not have universal healthcare coverage for all its citizens. Instead, institutions have been cobbled together, with coverage varying from person to person. Some forms of health insurance are part of the compensation for employment, while others can be accessed whether the person is employed or not. Employers and the government provide most people their health insurance. The Affordable Care Act has mandated all employers with at least 50 full time employees to cover the health insurance of at least 95 percent of the employees. This coverage is borne as a cost by the employer. My thesis uses longitudinal data from the March Current Population Survey (CPS) conducted by the Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics (which includes individual-level responses to many demographic and socioeconomic questions) to estimate the impact of insurance cost by observing two sets of time periods (before the mandate is imposed and after the mandate is imposed) to study what has been the impact on variables such as wages, for people who are the heads of their households and what the variation is based on (such as race, age, level of education, and marital status).

Book The Health Insurance Coverage and Labor Market Impacts of the Affordable Care Act

Download or read book The Health Insurance Coverage and Labor Market Impacts of the Affordable Care Act written by Edward Thomas Weizenegger and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Affordable Care Act (ACA) remains one of the most controversial pieces of legislation in a generation, and the full impacts of the law continue to be debated. Initial forecasts of how many individuals would gain health insurance coverage, as well as how the law's subsidies and regulations would impact the labor market, differ considerably from subsequent studies that have examined its effects. In this paper I use updated data from the American Community Survey (ACS) from 2012-2016 to analyze the impact of the ACA and its attendant expansion of Medicaid in 32 states and the District of Columbia. Specifically, I investigate the relationship between the law and health insurance coverage, labor force participation, and number of hours worked per week. I find that both the ACA and Medicaid expansions are significantly associated with substantial increases in health insurance coverage. As predicted by economic theory, I find that the ACA is associated with a decrease in labor force participation, but the Medicaid expansion separately is not. I also find that a significant and positive relationship between the ACA and the number of hours worked per week. Together, this paper supports the conclusion that the ACA has effectively increased the number of Americans with health insurance coverage, and provides important insight into its more complicated relationship with the labor force.
