Book Nonprofit Sector

Download or read book Nonprofit Sector written by Stanley J. Czerwinski and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fed. gov¿t. uses a variety of funding mechanisms to achieve nat. priorities through partnerships with nonprofit org. (NO), and the relationships are sometimes complex and multidirectional. NO receive fed. grant and contract funds both directly and through other entities, such as states, for performing activities or providing services to particular beneficiaries. Factors contributing to data limitations include the nonprofit status of recipients being self-reported and no consistent definition of nonprofit across data systems. Accurately determining the extent of fed. funds reaching the sector is not possible, leaving policy makers without a clear understanding of the extent of funding to, and importance of, key partners in delivering fed. programs and services

Book The Changing Dynamic of Government Nonprofit Relationships

Download or read book The Changing Dynamic of Government Nonprofit Relationships written by Kirsten A. Grønbjerg and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-11 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We advance nonprofit scholarship by using the conceptual framework of policy fields to examine differences across nonprofit fields of activity. We focus on the structure of relationships among four sectors (government, nonprofit, market, informal) and how relationships differ across policy fields (here health, human services, education, arts and culture, and religion). The fields differ notably in the economic share that each sector holds and the functional division of labor among the sectors. Systemic differences also exist in how the nonprofit sector interacts with the government, market, and informal sectors. The policy fields themselves operate within national contexts of distinctive economic and political configurations. The framework explores how government-nonprofit relationships differ across policy fields, the factors responsible for this variation, and offers predictive capacity to generate hypotheses and research designs for additional research. We provide insights on how nonprofit organizations differ in key sub-fields with direct relevance for policy and practice.

Book Nonprofits for Hire

Download or read book Nonprofits for Hire written by Steven Rathgeb Smith and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, government's primary response to the emergent problems of homelessness, hunger, child abuse, health care, and AIDS has been generated through nonprofit agencies funded by taxpayer money. As part of the widespread movement for privatization, these agencies represent revolutionary changes in the welfare state. Steven Smith and Michael Lipsky demonstrate that this massive shift in funds has benefits and drawbacks. Given the breadth of government funding of nonprofit agencies, this first study of the social, political, and organizational effects of this service strategy is an essential contribution to the current raging debates on the future of the welfare state. Reviews of this book: "An insightful analysis of the implications of an important, broad trend of the past thirty years in the social welfare policy of the United States and many other countries...[Smith and Lipsky] demonstrate that we do not have to read about other countries to find a comparative perspective that sheds light on the choices we face in our national health care debate." DD--Bradford H. Gray, Health Affairs "The most comprehensive account we have of the history, extent, nature, and meaning of delivering social services that are paid for by government and delivered through nonprofit organizations." DD--H. Brinton Milward, Public Administration Review "An interesting, absorbing, and important book." DD--William T. Gormley, Jr., American Political Science Review "An important contribution to welfare state scholarship." DD--Kirsten A. Gronbjerg, Contemporary Sociology
