Book Geochemistry of Boron in Selected Gold Deposits from the Western United States

Download or read book Geochemistry of Boron in Selected Gold Deposits from the Western United States written by David L Payne and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The geochemistry of boron and borosilicates is reviewed. A new method for determination of boron in geological materials has been developed using a potassium hydroxide fusion and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The method developed in this study is found to be precise, rapid, reproducible, and has a detection limit of about 0.5 ppm in rocks. The precision of the method is demonstrated by correlating values for known rock standards with values reported by several other workers. Five sediment hosted and two volcanic hosted gold deposits of the western United States are the subject of this study. They include: Carlin, Alligator Ridge, Jerritt Canyon, Mercur and North Moccasin districts for Carlin-type deposits and Republic and Como districts for volcanic hosted deposits. The geologic settings and pertinent geochemistry are reviewed. Geochemistry of boron and gold was studied in unmineralized rocks, mineralized rocks, and quartz veins. A significant correlation exists between boron and gold in the deposits studied. Boron is significantly enriched in mineralized rocks. Quartz veins show an even greater enrichment. The data obtained in this study suggest that boron can be used successfully as a pathfinder element to locate gold deposits of hydrothermal origin. Because boron is relatively more mobile than some of the other pathfinder elements, it can form broader dispersion halos. Since it is enriched in silicate minerals, it may have broader applications to indicate hydrothermal alteration than some other pathfinder elements"--Document.

Book Inorganic Geochemistry

Download or read book Inorganic Geochemistry written by Paul Henderson and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1982 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quantitative treatment of fundamental geochemical processes explaining the principal chemical factors controlling element distribution in the Earth and Moon. Part one defines the chemical composition and nature of the Earth, Moon and meteorites and describes theories of element formation showing the compositional framework within which geochemical processes operate. Part two covers the chemical principles involved in element distribution in igneous and metamorphic rock systems, the behaviour of elements in these rocks and discusses the uses of isotopes in problems of petrogenesis and ore genesis. Part three deals with the geochemistry of continental and oceanic waters and includes rock - water interaction.

Book Treatise on Geochemistry

Download or read book Treatise on Geochemistry written by and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-10-19 with total page 14787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extensively updated new edition of the widely acclaimed Treatise on Geochemistry has increased its coverage beyond the wide range of geochemical subject areas in the first edition, with five new volumes which include: the history of the atmosphere, geochemistry of mineral deposits, archaeology and anthropology, organic geochemistry and analytical geochemistry. In addition, the original Volume 1 on "Meteorites, Comets, and Planets" was expanded into two separate volumes dealing with meteorites and planets, respectively. These additions increased the number of volumes in the Treatise from 9 to 15 with the index/appendices volume remaining as the last volume (Volume 16). Each of the original volumes was scrutinized by the appropriate volume editors, with respect to necessary revisions as well as additions and deletions. As a result, 27% were republished without major changes, 66% were revised and 126 new chapters were added. In a many-faceted field such as Geochemistry, explaining and understanding how one sub-field relates to another is key. Instructors will find the complete overviews with extensive cross-referencing useful additions to their course packs and students will benefit from the contextual organization of the subject matter Six new volumes added and 66% updated from 1st edition. The Editors of this work have taken every measure to include the many suggestions received from readers and ensure comprehensiveness of coverage and added value in this 2nd edition The esteemed Board of Volume Editors and Editors-in-Chief worked cohesively to ensure a uniform and consistent approach to the content, which is an amazing accomplishment for a 15-volume work (16 volumes including index volume)!

Download or read book Magma Redox Geochemistry written by Roberto Moretti and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the many facets of redox exchanges that drive magma's behavior and evolution, from the origin of the Earth until today The redox state is one of the master variables behind the Earth's forming processes, which at depth concern magma as the major transport agent. Understanding redox exchanges in magmas is pivotal for reconstructing the history and compositional make-up of our planet, for exploring its mineral resources, and for monitoring and forecasting volcanic activity. Magma Redox Geochemistry describes the multiple facets of redox reactions in the magmatic realm and presents experimental results, theoretical approaches, and unconventional and novel techniques. Volume highlights include: Redox state and oxygen fugacity: so close, so far Redox processes from Earth’s accretion to global geodynamics Redox evolution from the magma source to volcanic emissions Redox characterization of elements and their isotopes The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Its publications disseminate scientific knowledge and provide resources for researchers, students, and professionals.

Book Petrochronology

  • Author : Matthew J. Kohn
  • Publisher : Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
  • Release : 2019-11-05
  • ISBN : 3110561891
  • Pages : 596 pages

Download or read book Petrochronology written by Matthew J. Kohn and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petrochronology is a rapidly emerging branch of Earth science that links time (ages or rates) with specific rock-forming processes and their physical conditions. It is founded in petrology and geochemistry, which define a petrogenetic context or delimit a specific process, to which chronometric data are then linked. This combination informs Earth’s petrogenetic processes better than petrology or geochronology alone. This volume and the accompanying short courses address three broad categories of inquiry. Conceptual approaches chapters include petrologic modeling of multi-component chemical and mineralogic systems, and development of methods that include diffusive alteration of mineral chemistry. Methods chapters address four main analytical techniques, specifically EPMA, LA-ICP-MS, SIMS and TIMS. Mineral-specific chapters explore applications to a wide range of minerals, including zircon (metamorphic, igneous, and detrital/Hadean), baddeleyite, REE minerals (monazite, allanite, xenotime and apatite), titanite, rutile, garnet, and major igneous minerals (olivine, plagioclase and pyroxenes). These applications mainly focus on metamorphic, igneous, or tectonic processes, but additionally elucidate fundamental transdisciplinary progress in addressing mechanisms of crystal growth, the chemical consequences of mineral growth kinetics, and how chemical transport and deformation affect chemically complex mineral composites. Most chapters further recommend areas of future research.
