The race is on to claim the alien technology before the ice melts and releases its hold on the trapped alien vessel. The mission: Board the spaceship and salvage as much alien technology as possible before the doomed vessel sinks to the bottom of the ocean. The obstacles: A disintegrating iceberg, a collapsing spaceship, an armed Russian salvage force intent on claiming alien technology for themselves, an approaching storm, and the biggest obstacle of all--the spacecraft's alien inhabitants. The aliens have another mission--survival--and when opposing species clash, there can be only one victor. Ice Rift - Salvage is the sequel to Ice Rift, which needs to be read first to gain the most enjoyment from the story.

Book The Myrdalsjokull Ice Cap Iceland

Download or read book The Myrdalsjokull Ice Cap Iceland written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-10-19 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lowland glaciers are usually considered the best analogs for formerly glaciated areas and as such, many Icelandic glaciers have been intensively investigated with regard to process-orientated sediment-landform interrelationships. The Mýrdalsjökull ice cap has, thus, served as an excellent "ice-age laboratory." Furthermore, a substantial effort has been directed toward understanding the interaction between volcanic activity and glacier response, such as meltwater outbursts (jökulhlaups) and sudden events of rapidly flowing glacier ice. The book reviews the following themes related to Mýrdalsjökull: glaciology, glacial and quaternary geology, sedimentology, tephrochronology and eruption history of Katla, and crustal movements. All authors are involved in research about the subglacial Katla volcano and Mýrdalsjökull. Book covers all aspects of the ice cap and volcano dynamics Comprehensive reviews with updated results Editors and authors are well established scientists with research experience from Myrdalsjokull Standard reference work for Myrdalsjokull

Book excerpt: Action adventure sci-fi horror set in Antarctica. An ancient terror dwells below the ice... Humans have always looked to the stars for signs of Extraterrestrials. They have been looking in the wrong place. They are already here, entombed in a spaceship beneath Antarctic ice for thousands of years. The ice is melting and they will soon be free. When a huge rift in the ice is discovered in Antarctica that stretches for 18 miles, (29 km) and 820 feet (250 meters) apart at its widest point, environmental scientists enter the ice rift to check out an anomaly on NASA's satellite scans. Beneath the ice they discover something far more life threatening than the raging blizzard trapping them in the rift. They are unarmed and unprepared for their ensuing fight for survival. Ice Rift plot themes: Action Adventure Survival Horror Science fiction First Contact Aliens Spacecraft Exploration Antarctica First feedback: "An exciting adrenaline rush that rarely lets you stop for a breather." "The story quickly draws you in and refuses to let go until the last page. An excellent adventure set in Antarctica. 10/10." "An exciting adrenaline rush that rarely lets you stop for a breather." "The imaginative mind of the author has produced a thrilling action adventure horror filled with atmosphere and claustrophobic locations. I dreaded each time the characters opened another door. Highly enjoyable read." "Atmospheric locations and a cleverly written plot full of surprises. Richard was my favourite character. It was easy to imagine myself exploring the spacecraft with them. I liked the way the scientists had no weapons to defend themselves with, but had to rely on their wits to survive. It made a change from the usual gung-ho hero machinegun killing scenarios."

Book Source to Sink Fluxes in Undisturbed Cold Environments

Download or read book Source to Sink Fluxes in Undisturbed Cold Environments written by Achim A. Beylich and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amplified climate change and ecological sensitivity of polar and cold climate environments are key global environment issues. Understanding how projected climate change will alter surface environments in these regions is only possible when present day source-to-sink fluxes can be quantified. The book provides the first global synthesis and integrated analysis of environmental drivers and quantitative rates of solute and sedimentary fluxes in cold environments, and the likely impact of projected climate change. The focus on largely undisturbed cold environments allows ongoing climate change effects to be detected and, moreover, distinguished from anthropogenic impacts. A novel approach for co-ordinated and integrative process geomorphic research is introduced to enable better comparison between studies. This highly topical and multidisciplinary book, which includes case studies covering Arctic, Antarctic, and alpine environments, will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in the fields of geomorphology, sedimentology and global environmental change.

Book Exploration of Subsurface Antarctica

Download or read book Exploration of Subsurface Antarctica written by M.J. Siegert and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2018-01-08 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our appreciation of glaciological processes in Antarctica suffers from a lack of observations in regions where numerical models indicate the ice sheet to be susceptible to ocean and/or atmospheric warming. The solution lies in the use and development of glacier geophysics. In this volume we present a series of papers that demonstrate how geophysics can be deployed in Antarctica to comprehend: (1) boundary conditions that influence ice flow such as subglacial topography, the distribution of basal water and ice-sheet rheology; (2) phenomena that might affect ice-flow processes, such as complex internal ice-sheet structures and the proposition of large stores of hitherto unappreciated groundwater; and (3) how glacigenic sediments and formerly glaciated terrain on, and surrounding, the continent can inform us about past ice-sheet dynamics. The volume also takes a historical view on developments leading to current knowledge, examines active ice-sheet processes, and points the way forward on how geophysics can advance quantitative understanding of Antarctic ice-sheet behaviour.

Book Science and Stewardship in the Antarctic

Download or read book Science and Stewardship in the Antarctic written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1993-02-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the negotiation of the International Protocol on Environmental Protection in 1991, those nations conducting scientific research programs in Antarctica face new challenges for stewardship of the southern continent and protection of its environment. Science and Stewardship in the Antarctic examines how the implementation of the 1991 agreement in the United States can be done in such a way to ensure the compatibility of scientific and environmental protection goals in this global laboratory. The book also addresses the potential for the new requirements both to benefit and harm research activities in Antarctica.
