Book History of the Church of Scotland Beginning the Year of Our Lord 203 and Continued to the End of the Reign of King James Vi Vol 1 of 3 Classic Reprint

Download or read book History of the Church of Scotland Beginning the Year of Our Lord 203 and Continued to the End of the Reign of King James Vi Vol 1 of 3 Classic Reprint written by John Spottiswood and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Church of Scotland, Beginning the Year of Our Lord 203, and Continued to the End of the Reign of King James Vi, Vol. 1 of 3 No. 1. The Oldest apparently, and the least perfect, is that which belongs to the Library Of the Faculty Of Advocates, and appears to have been presented to that learned body by Bishop Keith, or by some one into whose possession it fell after the death of this Prelate. It extends only to Five Books, bringing down the narrative to no later date than the year 1602, and stops in the middle of a sentence. It presents, indeed, ample proof that the plan Of the Work was not fully arranged in the mind of the author; for not only is the composition imperfect as to style, but deficient in many Of the historical details which are afterwards introduced into later copies, written, or at least attested, by the hand of the author himself.
